Rebirth: My Reclusive Husband Helps Me Get Revenge!-Chapter 44: Which charity?!
As Lixue browsed through the racks, her eyes landed on a stunning silk gown. She touched the fabric another hand reached out and grabbed the gown.
Lixue’s eyes widened as she turned to see Yu Jia standing beside her, a sweet smile plastered on her face. "Oh, I’m so sorry! I didn’t see you there," Yu Jia said, her voice dripping with innocence.
Lixue dragged the scarf up, covering her face her face properly as she replied. "It’s okay"
But Yu Jia’s smile only grew wider. "Oh, I just love this gown! It’s perfect for the upcoming charity gala. Don’t you think, Y.L?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with malice.
"Sure it might, but my hands already touched it first so you might have to look for another one.."
"..."
Yu Jia bit her lips as her eyes watered, deep down she just couldn’t let her have that dress.
"Oh do you also have something important to do with it?"
Lixue shook her head, she just liked the dress and that’s why she was getting it and she never fall into Yu Jia’s trap and let her get the dress.
"No, but that’s doesn’t mean I’ll give it to you.."
Yu Jia’s eyes momentarily glistened as she held the gown possessively, making sure everyone could see. She bit her lip again, this time more dramatically, a single tear threatening to fall from her eye.
"Oh, but I really had my heart set on this dress," Yu Jia murmured, her voice shaking just enough to make it sound like she was on the verge of tears. "I don’t want to cause trouble... but it’s just so disappointing. I was hoping to get it to support a charity event..." She paused, casting a quick glance at the growing crowd around them. "But I guess people like me are never meant to have nice things," she said softly, letting her words hang in the air, as if Lixue was deliberately standing in her way.
Lixue frowned, realizing what Yu Jia was doing, but she refused to back down. "That doesn’t make it yours just because you want it. I had my hands on it first."
Yu Jia’s smile faltered, just for a moment. "I... I didn’t mean to make things difficult," she said, her voice barely above a whisper as her hand fluttered to her chest. "I just thought... as a public figure, I could at least buy a dress for a good cause, but now I’m just being made to look petty." She turned her face away, her eyes welling with fake tears as she let out a soft sigh, doing everything she could to make the moment feel like she was being unjustly wronged.
The crowd around them was already starting to react.
Whispers began to spread.
"She’s being so nice about it... Why’s the other girl acting so harsh?"
"I can’t believe it. Yu Jia’s so sweet. I don’t understand why this other girl is being so possessive."
"Yu Jia’s trying to get a dress for charity, and this person is just being selfish," one woman murmured, shaking her head in disbelief.
Lixue’s chest tightened as she heard the whispers, realizing she was now the target of the bystanders’ judgment. The crowd, swayed by Yu Jia’s sweet, innocent demeanor, now pitied her, while Lixue was painted as the villain in this little drama.
Yu Jia, sensing the shift in the crowd’s sympathy, gave a small, delicate sob. "I didn’t mean to make a scene," she whispered, wiping away the fake tears with the back of her hand. "I guess I just don’t have the kind of luck I thought I did."
The people around them were now fully on Yu Jia’s side, murmuring in agreement. A few even exchanged glances, shaking their heads at Lixue.
"Yu Jia’s so kind. It’s a shame this girl doesn’t understand."
"She should’ve just let her have it. Yu Jia deserves it more."
Lixue clenched her jaw, the unfairness of the situation hitting her hard. She wasn’t going to let Yu Jia manipulate the moment, but it was becoming clear that no one was listening to her side.
At that moment, Yu Jia’s assistant, Lin Hao, arrived, his tall figure pushing through the crowd with an air of authority. He quickly assessed the situation, his eyes narrowing as he saw Yu Jia standing there, her lips trembling, the gown still in her grasp.
"Miss Yu, what happened?" Lin Hao asked, his voice concerned but sharp as he approached her.
Yu Jia immediately looked up at him, her eyes wide and innocent, filled with unshed tears. "Lin Hao... she won’t let me have the dress," she said in a fragile, almost broken voice. "I didn’t want to make a scene, but I guess it’s pointless now."
Lin Hao turned his gaze to Lixue, his expression turning icy as he assessed her. "Is this true?" he asked, his voice firm. He glanced back at Yu Jia, his features softening as he spoke. "Yu Jia is a star, and she’s doing this for a good cause. It’s a shame some people don’t understand that."
The crowd, already swayed by Yu Jia’s performance, nodded in agreement, some of them muttering in sympathy for Yu Jia, and a few even casting judgmental looks at Lixue.
Lixue felt the weight of their gaze, but she held her ground. She didn’t need to explain herself. She wasn’t going to let Yu Jia walk all over her.
"It’s a shame that you don’t understand that I grabbed the dress first and not miss Yu, I see nothing wrong with what I did, I didn’t take the dress forcefully from her but since you love the dress so much, I’ll give it to you..I’m sure there are other dresses better than this. Do enjoy your charity gala.."
Lixue gave them a smile and dropped the dress back, she knew Yu Jia, now she would be too embarrassed and proud to take the dress.
If I can’t have, then don’t expect to have it too Yu Jia.
