Chapter 162: Summer

After bathing the next morning, Qin Wu looked at Mo Chenxuan with a thoughtful expression.

"Chenxuan, are you sure you want to wear black?" She asked.

After all, even if the material was light, black was a natural heat absorber.

"It’s okay. Wearing white won’t help much anyway." The man said, and Qin Wu had to agree.

White clothes absorbed and retained less heat than their black counterparts.

However, in the apocalypse, the difference was almost negligible because everyone would roast regardless of what they wore.

"How I wish I were an ice element ability user." Qin Wu muttered.

"Water is almost as good as ice." Mo Chenxuan said, but Qin Wu was not convinced.

In the end, Mo Chenxuan wore a black linen shirt and trousers, while Qin Wu wore a similar outfit but in white.

After dressing, they went downstairs and had a breakfast of cold juice, rice porridge, steamed buns, and a fruit salad.

"Chenxuan, let’s go for a walk." Qin Wu suggested, and Mo Chenxuan immediately agreed.

Although it was hot and the two preferred their air-conditioned villa, they needed to see the situation outside.

With that in mind, they left the house and stepped into a whitish fog.

At the same time, they heard random cracking and hissing sounds that filled the air.

"At least the water is vaporising as soon as it melts. Otherwise, we would be looking at a flooding disaster considering the thick layer of winter snow." Qin Wu observed.

That said, breathing the humid air was uncomfortable, and Qin Wu felt like she couldn’t catch her breath.

"It’s going to be hell for asthmatic people, especially children." She said with a worried expression.

"Mmh." Mo Chenxuan agreed.

Fortunately, the humid air would only last a few days.

After all the snow melted and the water evaporated, the air would turn from humid to uncomfortably dry.

At that time, survivors would begin to suffer from nosebleeds, sore throats, dry skin, and a myriad of other symptoms.

’I don’t know which is worse.’ He wondered and sighed.

In this way, the two walked from the villa area to Zone B, Zone C, Zone D, and finally to Zone E before returning to their house.

Of everyone, the residents of Zone E were the happiest when winter ended. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

After all, living in unsuitable tents during winter was an indescribable torture.

"I could use another shower." Qin Wu said as soon as they entered the house.

"Me too." Mo Chenxuan said.

After that, the two went upstairs, had a cold shower and changed into new clothes.

"We have become spoiled." Qin Wu said and lazily stretched her body on the sofa.

"Not really." Mo Chenxuan said and quickly continued.

"We work hard when we need to work and rest well when we need to rest. The conveniences we have now are a result of luck, but mostly because of our hard work. If we didn’t work hard, we wouldn’t be able to live a good life even if we had space." He said.

After hearing this, Qin Wu fell into thought and eventually nodded.

"You are right. We probably work harder and take greater risks than most people in the base." She said, but soon narrowed her eyes.

"Chenxuan, do you have plans for this summer?" She asked.

"I want to return to the refinery when things calm down." Mo Chenxuan said.

Qin Wu frowned when she heard this.

Six months had passed since the refinery.

Back then, the zombie horde was a small nest, and the most powerful zombie was a late-stage, level three, spiritual ability zombie.

After six months, Qin Wu expected that the zombie had become a peak-stage level four or an early-stage level five zombie.

Most importantly, she worried that the nest had evolved from small to medium or even large.

That said, she shared Mo Chenxuan’s desire to go back.

"It will take a lot of planning." She said, and Mo Chenxuan nodded.

"There is also the swamp." The man said.

"I am afraid dealing with the swamp is going to be difficult." Qin Wu said, and Mo Chenxuan didn’t disagree.

That stretch of road had a swamp on either side.

One side was fifty or so acres, while the other was at most ten acres.

Although the area wasn’t large compared to other swamps, an acre of swamp could potentially contain billions of insects.

This was an astronomical number, and neither Qin Wu nor Mo Chenxuan was prepared to say they had a way of dealing with it.

’As expected, insects are the greatest threat to our survival.’ Mo Chenxuan thought.

"Chenxuan, we should ask Xu Anying to try and find an entomologist. This matter can’t be delayed." Qin Wu said in a solemn voice.

"I know." Mo Chenxuan said and sighed.

The two didn’t leave the house for the remainder of the day.

However, at dawn the next morning, they got into their car and drove to their territory.

On one hand, they didn’t want to be driving in the noon heat and on the other, they were eager to see how their territory was drying.

Since there was no snow and other obstructions on the road, they arrived in less than twenty minutes.

The territory entrance had four gates – one civilian entrance, one civilian exit, one gate for military use, and the last for officials.

At this time, Mo Chenxuan drove to the gate reserved for officials but was stopped before he could drive in.

A moment later, a guard walked to the driver’s side and looked inside.

"Boss Mo, Boss Qin." He respectfully greeted.

"Is everything okay?" Mo Chenxuan asked, and the guard nodded with a sheepish expression.

"Boss, you need to take the test." The man said, and Qin Wu smiled.

Although their territory was within the base, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu decided that everyone who wanted to enter their territory needed to take the virus test.

After all, it was not unheard of for corrupt base guards to allow infected people to enter the base.

Considering this, they decided it was better to be safe than sorry.

"We will take the test." Qin Wu said.

Soon after, the two stepped out of their car, took a quick test, and after being cleared, they drove into the territory.

Like the rest of the base, the territory was foggy due to water vapour.

However, the vapour didn’t do much to obstruct the two people’s vision.

"We need to open the stadium roof." Qin Wu said after recalling that the roof was currently closed.

"Wu’er, we should assign a dedicated person to handle the stadium roof. Open when there is a need to open and close when there is a need." Mo Chenxuan suggested.

"Okay." Qin Wu agreed.

Although most of the property walls still felt damp, the territory was drying well, and the two were satisfied with the situation.

After walking around for several hours, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu entered the villa that would soon be their home.

"The place will be completely dry after two more days. We should let our people begin preparing." Qin Wu said.

"I was thinking we should let them move in batches. It will increase efficiency and reduce confusion." Mo Chenxuan said, and Qin Wu nodded.

"There are also the summer goods. We should stock the shops before the people move."

"Wu’er, we thought of everything, but because we were in winter, we failed to consider an ice shop."

"Now that you mention it..." Qin Wu said with a thoughtful expression.

"The buildings are fitted with solar panels and should be able to generate enough electricity to power several large freezers. It’s not a problem to open an ice shop."

"Mmh." Mo Chenxuan nodded.

Back when they were trying to recruit Qi Shu, they took a bunch of random tasks.

One of the tasks was to retrieve solar panels from a manufacturing plant in a nearby town.

As a result, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu handed over a few panels and kept the rest for themselves.

Additionally, they got many panels from T-Shop’s fulfilment and sortation centres, several malls, and other places.

Overall, the two had enough solar panels to power the entire base for the summer without consuming a litre of fuel.

However, they didn’t intend to sell their excess panels.

After all, their territory was in its infancy and would expand in the future. When that happened, the panels would come in handy.

Later in the afternoon, the two returned to Villa Eight and immediately rushed to take a shower.

"Why do I feel that my skin is a little darker?" Qin Wu said, staring at herself in the mirror.

"You are imagining it." Mo Chenxuan said.

Qin Wu was indeed imagining it.

After all, she had applied several layers of sunscreen before stepping out of the door.

Most importantly, her space water had a whitening effect, and whatever ’burn’ she got from the summer sun would immediately be relieved.

However, even knowing this, Qin Wu still applied a face mask and wasn’t satisfied until twenty minutes later.

’There is no difference.’ Mo Chenxuan thought but didn’t dare to say it out loud.
