Chapter 73: Chapter 73: Can You Beat Me?

The eight-treasure porridge needs to be cooked in a large pot; the flavor only comes out well when it’s cooked in a big pot.

To buy such a pot for cooking porridge, Jiang Ran had to put in some effort.

Because the pot was too big for them to bring back themselves, someone would deliver it later.

Jiang Ran bought two of those pots, one for making porridge and the other for stewing soup.

Just these two big pots cost them several tens of yuan.

Fortunately, the money for the ingredients came from their pre-set aside funds; otherwise, they would have to pool money together again.

After buying these things, their available funds were almost depleted.

Whether they could hope to recoup their costs depended on tomorrow.

To be fully prepared, they naturally couldn’t go home early.

But Pei Jing, after all, was a child and had to attend kindergarten the next day, so he couldn’t stay up late with them. Jiang Ran let Pei Baoshan and Wang Cuilan take him home first.

Jiang Ran, Pei Yang, and Pei Shanshan stayed behind to prepare the ingredients needed for the next day.

Since they were cooking in the store, they couldn’t use firewood anymore; they switched to coal.

The stove was set up on the side by the door so that even if there was smoke from the coal, it would disperse directly outside.

The three of them first had a simple meal before starting the preparations.

To make the eight-treasure porridge taste good, all the various grains and peanuts needed to be soaked in advance.

Jiang Ran washed each type of ingredient clean before soaking them in water.

While Jiang Ran was soaking these, Pei Yang was chopping filling.

Pei Shanshan wasn’t idle either; she cleaned all the bowls and chopsticks they had bought and arranged them after draining the water.

The dough for the buns had to be prepared in advance too. Besides the dough for the buns, Jiang Ran also prepared dough for frying dough sticks and sugar cakes.

By the time they finished all this, it was already ten o’clock at night.

For convenience, Jiang Ran had specifically bought a wall clock, which she hung on the wall opposite the kitchen, so she could see the time whenever she looked up.

Looking at the time on the wall clock, Jiang Ran didn’t really feel like going home.

Going home would take them at least an hour, which meant they wouldn’t reach home until after eleven.

They’d have to get up at four in the morning to rush back, leaving them only five hours of sleep at most.

Thinking about this, Jiang Ran felt even less like going home.

Seeing Jiang Ran staring at the clock without saying anything, Pei Yang and Pei Shanshan looked at Jiang Ran in puzzlement, "Sister-in-law, what’s wrong?"

After a busy day, Pei Yang and Pei Shanshan were incredibly exhausted.

After finally finishing everything, seeing Jiang Ran standing there daydreaming, it would have been more surprising if they weren’t puzzled.

Hearing their voices, Jiang Ran turned to look at them, "I was just thinking, it’s so late now; I don’t want to go back. We’ll have to come early tomorrow again, running back and forth, and it’s not just troublesome, it also delays things."

Before the two could say anything, Jiang Ran continued, "Here’s the plan: you two go home, you don’t need to come too early tomorrow, just wake up at four-thirty and head here. I’ll start preparing alone."

"That won’t work!" Pei Yang immediately objected.

"Exactly!" Pei Shanshan agreed, "How can we go home and sleep and leave sister-in-law to work alone? If sister-in-law isn’t going home, I won’t either."

"Then I’m not going home either. I wouldn’t feel comfortable leaving you two women here."

Hearing that, Jiang Ran gave Pei Yang a sidelong glance, "You think you can take me on? Underestimating women?"

Pei Yang, "..."

That wasn’t what he meant at all.
