Chapter 65: Chapter 65: Rent

The shop front was bought a few years ago.

The Chen Family all have jobs and aren’t interested in running a business, so the shop has always been rented out.

The previous tenant also ran a food business, but perhaps their skills weren’t great, or maybe for other reasons, the business didn’t do well and only lasted a few months.

It’s been a few months since they moved out.

These days, it’s not easy to earn and save money, so no one dares to invest lightly in a business, which is why the Chen Family’s shop has remained vacant and hasn’t been rented out yet.

The Chen Family isn’t particularly in need of the money, so they’re not in a rush to rent out the shop.

It’s no big deal if no one rents it, but if someone comes asking to rent, that’s even better.

If the place stays empty, it’s wasted space, but renting it out would bring in some extra cash, so why not?

Moreover, Chen Sheng and Uncle Jiang have known each other since they were young, so they understand each other well after all these years.

If Jiang Ran weren’t reliable, Uncle Jiang wouldn’t have brought him here.

So after taking a look at Jiang Ran, Chen Sheng invited them into the courtyard, "Come in and let’s talk!"

The courtyard isn’t large, but it’s quite elegantly arranged.

There is a small garden along the courtyard wall, with a few bamboo plants, and there’s a large jar with clear water and fish swimming in it.

There’s also a small stone table in the yard, with four round stone stools around it, and a bamboo recliner nearby.

There’s no denying, this courtyard is very tastefully set up.

The Pei Family’s courtyard, on the other hand, is large but empty, with basically nothing in it.

The Pei Family’s courtyard is meant for drying clothes, storing firewood, and drying grains at harvest time, all for practical living.

In contrast, this little courtyard exudes a sense of enjoying life.

Seeing Jiang Ran focused on the courtyard arrangements, Chen Sheng couldn’t help but smile proudly, "So, what do you think? Isn’t my courtyard nicely set up? Old Jiang has been envious for a long time."

"Who’s envious of your courtyard!" Uncle Jiang immediately retorted, "I’m busy all day, unlike you, who can spend every day tending to flowers and plants in the courtyard. Enough about your courtyard, let’s get down to business."

As they talked, they walked over and sat down by the stone table.

Chen Sheng stopped talking about his courtyard and turned to the matter of renting the house.

"You want to rent a house to sell food? How long are you planning to rent for?"

"Well, it depends on your rent." Jiang Ran smiled, "I’m afraid I might not have enough money."

Chen Sheng nodded knowingly, "I understand, when running a business you have to keep some cash flow. With Old Jiang here, I won’t beat around the bush. Our row of shop fronts rent for fifteen a month. See if that’s acceptable. If you don’t have enough on hand, renting for six months is also fine."

Fifteen a month, that makes ninety for six months.

This amount is indeed manageable.

But Jiang Ran didn’t immediately agree, "Uncle, can we take a look at the place first?"

"Sure!" Chen Sheng said as he stood up, "Let’s head over now."

Renting a house is a big decision, and a rent of fifteen a month isn’t cheap. It’s reasonable for Jiang Ran to want to take a look.

Fortunately, it’s close by, and in no time at all, they were back at Uncle Jiang’s small shop.
