Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Do You Want to Go to Kindergarten?

"Little Jing, how about I take you to kindergarten?"

Pei Jing blinked, his big eyes full of confusion, "What’s kindergarten?"

"Well... it’s a place with lots of kids your age. You can play together, and there are teachers who play games with you, tell you stories, and teach you to count and draw."

Since he could remember, Pei Jing had spent most of his time by Pei Shanshan’s side.

No matter what work Pei Shanshan was doing, she always took Pei Jing along.

Though they spent all day together, they actually didn’t talk much.

Pei Shanshan herself had only graduated from elementary school, let alone teaching Pei Jing.

Despite his young age, Pei Jing’s life could already be described as day in, day out.

He had never experienced the kind of life Jiang Ran described, and he couldn’t help but yearn for it a little.

Seeing Pei Jing not saying a word, Jiang Ran had to ask again, "Little Jing, do you want to go to kindergarten?"

"I do."

This time, Pei Jing answered quickly, without a moment’s hesitation.

Hearing Pei Jing’s answer, Jiang Ran raised his hand and patted his little head, "Then, after I finish work at noon, I’ll go inquire at the kindergarten."

The spring enrollment had just ended not long ago, so thinking of getting him in mid-term shouldn’t be too difficult.

Jiang Ran and Pei Jing were sitting at the kitchen door, speaking in normal voices, and Pei Shanshan in the kitchen heard their conversation clearly.

Upon hearing Jiang Ran wanting to take Pei Jing to kindergarten, Pei Shanshan was taken aback.

So shocked, Pei Shanshan even secretly pinched herself.

Life had been so good these past few days that she started questioning if it was a dream.

But the pain in her arm clearly told Pei Shanshan that this was not a dream.

If it wasn’t a dream, then it must be something’s wrong with Jiang Ran’s mind.

Pei Shanshan sneaked a glance at Jiang Ran, secretly praying that he would continue being ’troubled’ in the mind.

Soon, the aroma of meat wafted out from the kitchen.

The smell was so dominant that even though they weren’t hungry, it made their mouths water.

Pei Jing, being so young, couldn’t quite control himself; his eyes fixed on the steaming basket at the smell of meat.

Seeing him like that, Jiang Ran couldn’t help but laugh, "Want to eat? Once it’s done steaming, I’ll give you a piece."

The meat was cut pretty large; with Pei Jing’s small appetite, a piece of braised pork and some rice would fill him up nicely.

An hour and a half later, Jiang Ran used the biggest bowl at home to steam some rice.

Just as the rice was about to finish, Pei Yang returned, panting. Jiang Ran waited for him to catch his breath before asking him to fire up the stove, put it on the cart, and then place the pot and steamer on it.

The bowl with the rice was also put in the steamer to keep it warm.

Jiang Ran drained the excess water from the shredded radish, added the seasoning, and dished it out onto the cutting board.

Half a plate of braised pork was left, and three big bowls of rice were reserved.

These were for the Pei Family’s lunch.

"Shanshan, it shouldn’t be as busy by noon, so you don’t have to go."

One reason was that noon wouldn’t be that busy; another was that if they all went out, and Pei Baoshan and Wang Cuilan weren’t back yet, there’d be no one to watch Pei Jing.

Pei Shanshan understood this and nodded in agreement, holding Pei Jing’s little hand at the door, watching as Jiang Ran and Pei Yang carted off into the distance.

Only after they turned a corner and the figures disappeared did she finally have to withdraw her gaze.
