Chapter 336: Chapter 336: Abandoned by Heaven (Third Release)

What one fears is often what comes to pass. Scarcely had this thought crossed Duanmu Bai’s mind when a bizarre roar echoed from the distant horizon, prompting an instant change in Duanmu Bai’s complexion.

That was the sound of the Thunder-patterned Chasing Wind Gryphon, the flying magical beast of Duanmu Ci; Duanmu Ci was coming!

The Chasing Wind Gryphon is a common flying magical beast used for transportation in the Demonic Realm, but the one belonging to Duanmu Ci was exceptional, with its body full of thunder and lightning Dao patterns. It was the only one of its kind in the entire Demonic Realm, making it a symbol of Duanmu Ci, with a roar that was distinctive from your average Chasing Wind Gryphon.

In the Duanmu Clan, only the family head, Duanmu Ci, had the privilege to use the Thunder-patterned Chasing Wind Gryphon. Thus, hearing its roar indicated that Duanmu Ci was not far away.

“My lord, my father has come. I have always kept the matter of the Donghuang Bell from him. If he comes to know the truth, I fear there will be serious trouble!”

Duanmu Bai, addressing Heaven-Defying Demon Emperor Mu Chenxuan with a bow, sought help. The situation had exceeded his expectations, and who else could he turn to but Mu Chenxuan, his master?

“Your father? Duanmu Ci?”

Heaven-Defying Demon Emperor Mu Chenxuan raised an eyebrow. “So he’s come. What great trouble could there be?”

“My lord, my mother brought the Donghuang Bell as part of her dowry when she married into the Duanmu family, but she never told anyone, nor did she ever reveal it. Later, because of my father’s penchant for novelty and disdain for the familiar, in a fit of anger, my mother hid the Donghuang Bell completely and passed it on to me. My father is unaware of all this. Now if he learns the truth, I’m afraid life for my mother and me in the Duanmu Clan will become very difficult!”

Duanmu Bai managed a wry smile. To Mu Chenxuan, Duanmu Ci might not be much, but to him, his son, he was someone whose word could mean life or death. If Duanmu Ci bore him ill will, the position of family head would be out of reach. And if he could not become the head of the Duanmu Clan, how would he be of use to Mu Chenxuan?

“Is that so?”

Mu Chenxuan laughed coldly, “Duanmu Bai, you are now a subordinate of mine. Since I have promised to help you become the head of the Duanmu Clan, I shall not break my word. Is Duanmu Ci alone such a problem that you think I can’t deal with him? Or do you suppose he has the strength and courage to oppose me?”

“Well…”

Duanmu Bai found himself at a loss for words. Reflecting on it, his father, Duanmu Ci, had indeed the power to decide his fate within the Duanmu Clan, to decree whether or not he could succeed as family head. But he was no match for Mu Chenxuan. With Mu Chenxuan on his side, even if Duanmu Ci was filled with dissatisfaction, he would have no choice but to pass on the title of family head to him. The arrival of Duanmu Ci, a calamity for him, seemed but a trivial matter to Mu Chenxuan, not worth any surprise at all!

“Should not have, right?”

“Then there you have it!”

Mu Chenxuan shrugged, appearing indifferent, “Whether your father comes or not, it won’t change the outcome. The Donghuang Bell is destined for Brother Wukong, and you are destined to be the next head of the Duanmu Clan. If he stays away, all the better. But should he come, it’s a fine opportunity for me to have this matter settled!”

Wukong was completely unaware of the conversation between Duanmu Bai and the Heaven-Defying Demon Emperor. He had no sense of what was happening in the outside world, as he was immersed in a state of chaos. The refinement and recognition of the master by the Donghuang Bell within him had been completed long ago. What was now taking place inside him was the fusion of the Saint Mark left by Eastern Emperor Taiyi and the Buddha Spirit Path Trace given to him by Amitabha with his Chaotic Divine Body.

Wukong would have had no issues absorbing just the hint of a Saint Mark left by Eastern Emperor Taiyi, but the addition of Amitabha’s Buddha Spirit Path Trace made the full integration with the Chaotic Divine Body not so straightforward. That Buddha Spirit Path Trace was Amitabha’s Saint Mark and was far more complete than the one left by Eastern Emperor Taiyi, containing most of Amitabha’s perceptions of the Heavenly Dao and experiences in Proving the Tao and Becoming a Saint. It also included many Divine Skills from both the Taoist and Buddhist Sects, making it extremely challenging to absorb and integrate.

As such, upon entering Wukong’s body, the Buddha Spirit Path Trace sealed itself away, never to have been activated. It remained dormant even as Wukong developed his Chaotic Divine Body and advanced to the brink of the Quasi-Saint Realm. If not for the last vestiges of energy from Eastern Emperor Taiyi’s Divine Soul Mark activating it now, it might have remained hidden within Wukong’s body, unforeseeable when it would be integrated and absorbed.

The simultaneous fusion of Eastern Emperor Taiyi’s Saint Mark and Amitabha’s Buddha Spirit Path Trace with Wukong’s Chaotic Divine Body forcefully elevated Wukong’s strength and understanding of the Great Dao to a new level. His Physical Body and True Spirit began a strange transformation, and the Heavenly Dao’s constraints on him started to weaken. A faint Great Dao Illusion coalesced in the third eye of his glabella, starkly different from the Heavenly Dao. It began to solidify, and Wukong even felt as though he could shatter the Great Dao with a single punch, creating his own world of the Dao.

This was a sign of achieving strength-based enlightenment!

To achieve enlightenment through strength means to cultivate one’s Physical Body and True Spirit with an overpowering force, rendering them immensely powerful and able to break through all restraints, especially those of the Heavenly Dao, thus forming a personal Dao. With a single thought, one can evolve the world, entirely transcending the Heavenly Dao.

Wukong, by fate, was never bound by the Heavenly Dao, as its constraints on him were almost negligible. Now, having formed a Chaotic Divine Body and successively absorbing Eastern Emperor Taiyi’s Saint Mark and Amitabha’s Buddha Spirit Path Trace, his Physical Body and True Spirit began to transform. The Heavenly Dao’s restraints were being shattered by his enormous strength, bit by bit!

With strength, I prove the Tao; in my presence, none can stand!

Boom!

A muffled thunderous sound erupted abruptly above Dragon Abyss City. The next moment, a pitch-black cloud silently appeared in mid-air and rapidly solidified. An overwhelming pressure bore down toward the courtyard above the Cold Pond, aiming directly at Sun Wukong, who was in the midst of a critical breakthrough with his eyes closed.

Sun Wukong was at a crucial point in his breakthrough, still in a state of Chaos, utterly unaware of his surroundings. The oppressive force pressed down on him, plunging him straight from the mid-air into the Cold Pond along with the Donghuang Bell that sank with him.

“What’s happening?”

Heaven-Defying Demon Emperor Mu Chenxuan and others were shocked, their faces filled with horror as they looked up at the dark clouds in the sky.

“Is that, Heavenly Tribulation? No, not Heavenly Tribulation, nor does it look like Heavenly Punishment!”

Heaven-Defying Demon Emperor Mu Chenxuan furrowed his brow. He had never seen such a massive black cloud, dark as a black hole, with such tremendous oppressive power in his life. Not even Heavenly Punishment wielded such immense force, yet it was clearly formed by the Heavenly Dao and was obviously directed at Sun Wukong, aiming to disrupt his breakthrough and utterly annihilate him!

“Could this be, the legendary Abandonment by Heaven?”

The Bull Demon King suddenly thought of an ancient legend, his bovine eyes widening in shock as he blurted out.

The Scripture Pavilion within Three-Star Cave Heaven had records of various legends and secrets since the beginning of the Primeval Three Realms—all proven to be true. Baseless rumors would not be recorded in Three-Star Cave Heaven’s Scripture Pavilion!

The Bull Demon King, a disciple of Puti Patriarch of the Slanting Moon Three-Star Cave, also enjoyed flipping through various ancient secrets when not practicing, including records on Abandonment by Heaven.

According to the ancient texts, Abandonment by Heaven is the Heavenly Dao’s greatest punishment, far more severe than Heavenly Punishment. Heavenly Punishment is a catastrophic strike against beings who defy the heavens excessively, usually obliterating their physical bodies and dispersing their souls, but still leaving a trace of the Soul’s True Spirit behind to potentially reincarnate after absorbing enough strength to restore its soul.

But Abandonment by Heaven is different!

It is an exterminating strike by the Heavenly Dao against those who could threaten its very existence, completely forsaking them. If the targeted person cannot withstand it, the end is utter destruction without any remnants of the Soul’s True Spirit left behind, and no chance of reincarnation whatsoever.

Since the inception of Primeval, such an incident had only occurred once, with the Great God Pangu who opened the heavens and earth!

By opening the heavens and splitting Chaos, Pangu fundamentally changed the Primeval Heavenly Dao, invoking a sense of threat from the Heavenly Dao, which then inflicted him with a huge backlash. Even Pangu’s Chaotic Divine Body could not withstand the backlash of Abandonment by Heaven, leading his physical body to collapse, evolving into all things. Was Sun Wukong now facing the same attack of Abandonment by Heaven, and could it mean he would also perish completely, both body and soul, just like the Great God Pangu?

“What can be done? How can we help our leader?”

The Six-Eared Macaque grew anxious upon hearing this, and Heaven-Defying Demon Emperor Mu Chenxuan also showed a look of deep concern. If the situation was as the Bull Demon King described, wasn’t Sun Wukong doomed to die – not just an ordinary death but the kind of complete obliteration where both body and soul cease to exist without any chance of rebirth?

“We can’t help!”

The Bull Demon King shook his head, his expression grave, and he sighed helplessly, “Abandonment by Heaven is the heaviest punishment by the Heavenly Dao, without any chance of survival. With our powers, let alone helping our leader withstand it, if we get caught in it ourselves, we’ll be utterly obliterated!”

“Then what are we to do? Are you just going to stand by and watch the Great Saint die?”

Huang Zhen, who had been silent up until now, couldn’t hold back, “Shouldn’t you do something?”

“I’m sorry, Miss Huang, we want to help our leader, but this Abandonment by Heaven is not something that can be reversed by human efforts. With our power, we simply can’t assist our leader. The only one who can save our leader is himself, it all depends on whether he can withstand the destructive strike of the Abandonment by Heaven!”
