Chapter 459: Chapter 235: Preparing to Return Home_2

Sang Wan finished speaking, twisted her body, and moved away from his embrace, turning her head away.

After Shi Fengju heard her finish speaking, how could he remain upset? Seeing her ending her words with a touch of resentment and partial grievance while pretending to ignore him, he found her even more pitiful and adorable. Without realizing it, he extended his arms and embraced her again, confining her within his embrace and said with a laugh, "I can’t win against you. No matter how I listen, you are right and you say the correct things. It’s not that you lack tact; it’s me who spoke too hastily without deeper consideration. If it weren’t for your sensible nature, I might indeed regret and apologize to you tomorrow by saying ’I am sorry!’ My dear wife, it was my momentary negligence that led me to misspeak. I apologize to you, my wife. Don’t be upset, alright?"

How could Sang Wan really argue with him? Upon hearing this, she chuckled lightly and lightly thumped his chest, "It’s getting late. Let’s rest soon!"

Shi Fengju held her hand, kissed it near his lips, and said with a smile, "Tomorrow, I will arrange for a boat, and we will start our journey home the day after tomorrow. Although we are not going to the capital, just outside Handan City, there is an ancient temple called Lingxin Temple. It’s extremely efficacious, and the vegetarian banquets there are unparalleled. The scenery is also exceptionally serene. We really should visit it; I’ll take you there tomorrow."

This was indeed wonderful. Having been out for so long, every day confined to this small courtyard, and although they occasionally traveled around Handan City by carriage when his legs felt better, it was rather uneventful just glancing at the sights from a distance. Going out to clear their minds tomorrow would indeed be nice.

Sang Wan smiled and nodded, simply responding, "Okay," and the two spent the night without further conversation.

The next morning, since they were visiting a temple, naturally, they didn’t dress too extravagantly. Shi Fengju wore a moon-white gown with a subdued bamboo leaf pattern, a waist belt embroidered with a silver thread pattern of three friends of winter, and a green round jade ring with a long goose-yellow tassel at his waist, his feet shod in light boots with pink soles and grey tops. Sang Wan wore a light green gown with begonia-red autumn chrysanthemum patterns, an ivory-white high collared inner wear, and a pale blue pleated skirt. Her hair was simply styled into a talisman bun, decorated with a few not-so-bright jade hairpins and beaded flowers. Her eyebrows were lightly drawn, and her makeup was subtly applied, fresh and elegant.

As it was a rare outing, besides Steward Zhang leading two servants to prepare the boat, all others accompanied them, everyone joyful. Two carriages were called; Sang Wan and Shi Fengju took one, Liu Ya and two maidservants took another, while Chang Huan and others all rode horses around them.

Lingxin Temple was located more than ten miles outside the city on Qiuming Mountain, with towering rows of buildings starting halfway up the mountain extending to the summit. The main hall proudly sat atop the peak, flanked by mountain ranges on either side. Resembling a sedan chair’s highest backrest part, with the mountain ranges sloping down on both sides like armrests, the terrain here was outstanding, naturally embodying an imperial aura. Standing in front of the main hall and looking far out, flat and expansive farmland lay at the foot of the mountain, with fluctuating ranges further away.

The carriage stopped at the foot of the mountain, and Shi Fengju helped Sang Wan put on her light veil bamboo hat, assisting her from the carriage. The material of the hat, said to be called shadow cloud gauze, was extremely light, allowing clear visibility through the veil while preventing outsiders from seeing the wearer’s face clearly.

"There’s still quite a distance to the top of the mountain! There isn’t much scenery to see down here; the good views are up halfway up the mountain and above, so let’s take the sedan first and dismount at the mountain gate," Shi Fengju said with a smile.

By this time, sedan carriers waiting for clients were already nearby. Seeing the couple from a wealthy family, they dared not approach loudly but stood by with smiles.

Sang Wan saw the sedan nearby, which was essentially two bamboo poles with a bamboo chair in the middle, open on all four sides, a sunshade on top, and each corner supported by a thumb-thick bamboo pole which also served as handles.

Looking up at the main hall high upon the mountain peak, the towering mountain with winding and steep paths, Sang Wan feeling somewhat hesitant about the bamboo sedan, jokingly said, "This won’t fall down, will it?"

Before Shi Fengju could reply, an eager sedan carrier quickly replied with a smile, "Please rest assured, madam. We travel this mountain path at least three or four times a day and have never had any accidents; it’s very stable!"

"Don’t worry, they are very experienced and it’s safe," Shi Fengju reassured her with a smile as he squeezed her hand.

Sang Wan smiled and nodded, and Shi Fengju gestured to have four carriers rush over with two bamboo sedans, carefully placing them on the ground, and said with a grin, "Sir, madam, please board the sedan!"

Shi Fengju steadied Sang Wan as she sat down, then he boarded another sedan. Four sedan carriers said "Let’s go!" and lifted the sedans steadily upon their shoulders, taking step by step towards the mountain.

Liu Ya, Chang Huan, and others all followed by the side.

With the movement, the bamboo sedan creaked softly, startling Sang Wan who then firmly gripped the side handles, taking a while to relax and lightly let go. This caused Shi Fengju following behind to chuckle and instruct her a few words, also ordering Liu Ya and others to carefully follow by the side.

Sang Wan calmed her heart and then lifted her eyes to look around at the scenic beauty. The mountain was lush and vibrant, with plenty of distinctively shaped sturdy green pines and occasional birds chirping and swooping by. She could even faintly hear the sound of water roaring in her ears. At her feet and nearby were various unknown wildflowers blooming beautifully.

The mountain wind blew by, bringing the distinct fragrance of pine needles, refreshing the lungs and uplifting the spirit. The sun shone through the thin clouds, the sky blue and vast. Indeed, it was a perfect day for an outing.

After about more than half an hour, they reached the first giant stone gate constructed of boulders. Behind the stone gate on the stone platform, Shi Fengju called for a halt and the carriers steadied their steps and carefully lowered the sedans.
