Chapter 655: Chapter 655: Unwelcome

It’s almost eleven; he should get some rest.

"You should rest early too." Charles Seymour gave Sophie Wilson a kiss, then reluctantly went back to his room to sleep.

Hmm... it would be better if he didn’t have to go back to his room.

Charles sighed inwardly but still kept a normal expression as he opened the door and left.

——

At the airport, Lucy Wells quickly took a few steps forward, only to suddenly be pulled back by someone. A strong arm draped over her shoulder, and a familiar playful voice sounded in her ear, "Darling, why are you walking so fast?"

"You, you..." Lucy’s cheeks flushed red. This guy... how could he...

"Young Master Bright, your girlfriend is quite innocent." A male companion next to them joked with a laugh.

"Cut it out; stop teasing my darling, or I’ll hit you." Kai Bright raised his fist, waving it threateningly in front of the guy’s face.

"Ah... having a girlfriend really changes things. In the past, our Young Master Bright was a master of passing through the garden without touching a single leaf." Before the man could finish his sentence, Kai slapped him away, "Get lost, trying to stir up trouble between me and my Lucy, are you? Just see how I settle accounts with you later!"

"Sister-in-law, help!" The guy came up with a roguish grin, jokingly pleading for help.

Lucy couldn’t help but burst into laughter. She never expected to run into one of Kai’s friends from the Imperial City while on a business trip and end up impersonating Kai’s girlfriend in such a muddled way.

"Alright, alright, stop being a third wheel here." Kai waved his hand dismissively at the guy and ushered him away, pulling his luggage with one hand and having his other arm around Lucy as they walked out.

Lucy asked in a voice only they could hear, "Is your shoulder okay?"

She remembered clearly that Kai was still nursing an injury, yet he was acting nonchalantly and joking around with his friend, without a hint of discomfort.

This man is really... good at pretending.

"It’s fine," Kai replied with a smile, "I’ve gotten used to it."

For some reason, hearing Kai say this made Lucy’s heart ache.

This charmingly flamboyant man was actually, deep down, so resilient and responsible.

She roughly knew that he was doing some special tasks at a training camp, disguising himself as a playboy.

How many injuries must one go through to become accustomed to them?

"Lucy!" Just upon stepping out, Lucy heard a familiar voice, her eyes suddenly lit up as she ran toward Sophie Wilson, "Sophie."

Kai lowered his arm, watching the woman who had been gentle and shy in front of him now energetically running away. He stroked his chin with some regret, wondering if his personal charm had decreased so much.

Lowering his arm and suppressing that sudden empty feeling, Kai walked over with his long, straight legs, "Yo, sis, here to pick up your brother?"

Sophie gave her unserious cousin a roll of her eyes and huffed, "I’m here to pick up Lucy."

Kai: "..."

Did she have to be so direct?

His fragile heart couldn’t handle it.

"Sis, why am I so unwelcome?" Kai pitifully looked at Sophie, "I was hoping to crash at your place."

Sophie glared at Kai and said grumpily, "Then hurry up and follow along. Do you want to be carried on a palanquin or something?"

"Alrighty." Kai agreed with a cheerful smile, his face lighting up like a blooming flower, shining brightly.
