Rebirth: CEO's Sweetheart Reaches the Life Pinnacle!-Chapter 687 - 604: Why Now
In the luxurious cabin, Xu Er was chatting with Mrs. Xu when he suddenly felt his nose itch. "Achoo! Achoo!"
He sneezed twice in a row.
Mrs. Xu looked at him with concern and asked, "What’s going on? Son, are you catching a cold?"
Getting a cold right after the wedding would not be good. Tomorrow’s wedding banquet couldn’t possibly have a groom sneezing and with a runny nose, right?
Xu Er quickly waved his hand and grinned, baring his teeth. "No way! I’m perfectly healthy!"
But just as he finished his sentence, "Achoo!" he sneezed loudly again.
Mrs. Xu glanced at him, her gaze clearly filled with exasperation. Healthy, huh?
"I’m going to sit over there!" she said as she got up and walked over to Mrs. Leng. She really liked Little Buding and thought, now that her son was married, maybe she’d be a grandmother soon!
Xu Er looked at his mom’s graceful back and scratched his nose. "Could it be that Shasha is thinking about me? First think, then scold, then mention!"
Long Wu couldn’t help but lean toward Xu Er and tease him quietly, "This sounds plausible! Maybe Shasha and Sisi are discussing you. Hmm, maybe even you guys. You know what I mean!"
It’s often said that men talk about women when together, so wouldn’t women talk about men when together?
Xu Er immediately felt a bit uneasy. He glanced at Leng Er, who had been silently flipping through his documents. "Leng Er, what do you think?"
Could it actually be true?
Leng Mochen raised his head slightly from his documents and asked flatly, "What?"
Long Wu laughed so hard he slapped his thigh. "Haha! Second brother wasn’t even listening to us! Come on, let this brother share some profound wisdom with you! Guaranteed to make you enlightened, solve all your doubts!"
With that, he threw an arm around Xu Er’s shoulder and led him to a secluded corner for a whispered conversation.
After they left, Leng Mochen, sensing something, glanced in Li Si’s direction. Thinking of last night’s passion, a subtle smile flickered in his eyes.
Then, he immediately looked back down at his documents, showing no interest whatsoever in whatever Long Wu and Xu Er were discussing.
When they deplaned, everyone parted ways. Before leaving, Bai Shasha couldn’t help but secretly stick her tongue out at Li Si. The meaning was obvious—her earlier awkwardness had likely already been sensed by Old Leng. Someone here should probably brace themselves!
Li Si rolled her eyes at her, then she and Leng Mochen, along with Buding, took separate cars with the Leng Family parents and Leng Ning and headed straight for the Leng Family mansion.
On the way, Mrs. Leng sighed, "Even though I’ve kept in touch with Old Xu frequently by phone and know that Dad’s health is alright, I still don’t feel at ease until I see him in person. It’s just right that Mochen and the others are bringing Buding along. When the old man sees him, his mood will surely improve. Feeling better will help cure half his illness!"
Mr. Leng, hearing this, was touched and patted her hand with gratitude on his face. "Xiao Yan, you’ve worked so hard all these years! I’ve been away from home so much and haven’t managed things here. You’ve paid more attention to Dad than I have! To be honest, you’re more like his daughter, and I’m more like the son-in-law!"
Mrs. Leng chuckled and scolded him, "Stop talking nonsense! I’m at least half a daughter to Old Master Leng. If I don’t care for him, who will?"
Every time she recalled those memories from the past, she felt nothing but gratitude. If it weren’t for her father’s dying wishes, how would her life have turned out?
Sitting in the front passenger seat, Leng Ning overheard this lightheartedly and couldn’t help but turn back with a smile. "Dad, you’ve finally realized how great Mom is! If you’re the son-in-law, then I’d have to call Grandpa by a different title entirely!"
"You little rascal! What nonsense are you spouting now?"
In another car, Buding was still sound asleep in Li Si’s arms. Leng Mochen sat beside her, staring at her, and suddenly asked, "What were you and Bai Shasha talking about earlier?"
His keen intuition couldn’t be blamed. The two little ladies had blushed and avoided eye contact the moment they saw him earlier. The reason? Well, wasn’t it obvious they were talking behind his back?
Li Si was admiring Buding’s adorable sleeping face when she heard the question. Feeling a bit guilty, she didn’t dare look him in the eye and lowered her head, casually replying, "Huh? Nothing much, just talked about Cao Yufan." 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
She and Bai Shasha had, of course, discussed plenty of, shall we say, less-than-appropriate topics afterward. But as one of the parties involved, it was better for him to remain unaware.
"That’s all?" His tone clearly conveyed disbelief.
Li Si nodded vigorously. "Really! What else could we have possibly talked about?"
Leng Mochen squinted while staring at her, then suddenly chuckled and leaned toward her ear, whispering, "If you’re too shy to say it in front of others, that’s fine. We can have a proper chat about it at home later."
"Cough! Cough!" She nearly choked on her own saliva. For real? Was he really suggesting they have a late-night chat to spill the beans?
At the Leng Family mansion.
Mr. Leng Sr. lit up the moment he saw Buding. As Mrs. Leng had predicted, his mood improved significantly, and to everyone’s surprise, he even ate half a bowl more than usual at dinner.
This delighted Housekeeper Xu, who had been taking care of the old master for years. The usually serious lines of his face seemed to soften with joy.
After a warm, harmonious family meal, where none spoke during the meal in true familial tradition, Leng Mochen and Mr. Leng were called into the study for a discussion.
This was almost like a Leng Family ritual, or perhaps a tradition. By now, Li Si was quite used to it.
While she wasn’t a stranger to the Leng Family mansion, she also didn’t consider herself deeply familiar with it.
As soon as Leng Ning returned, Jin Yichen invited her out, while Mrs. Leng busied herself in the kitchen, directing the staff to handle the specialties and food they’d brought back from North City.
Li Si, holding Buding, played around the fountain in front of the villa.
It seemed children universally loved playing with water, and Buding was no exception.
He watched the rock fountain with fascination, constantly reaching out his little hands to feel the clear, flowing water.
Li Si obligingly held him a bit closer so he could touch it, making him laugh delightedly with a wide grin.
The pair played happily until Li Si accidentally wet the hem of her skirt and had no choice but to carry a reluctant Buding back toward the villa.
After only a few steps, she saw Leng Mochen coming out of the villa to find them, his expression somewhat somber.
Li Si looked up at him worriedly as he approached. "What’s wrong?"
Had something bad happened again?
Leng Mochen frowned slightly and said in a low voice, "Grandpa wants to hand the Leng Group over to me!"
He really hadn’t seen this coming. Of all the outcomes he’d imagined, declaring such a decision during this visit to the old mansion was not one of them.
"Why so soon..." Li Si was equally surprised. She’d always known that Mr. Leng Sr. intended to pass the Leng Group to him, but she hadn’t expected it to happen so quickly!
Leng Mochen gently caressed Buding’s soft cheek and said quietly, "A lot has happened in Beijing while we’ve been away these past two days."
Though he’d already been informed of some developments, he hadn’t expected the chain of events to culminate in the old master decisively handing him the baton for the Leng Group.
"Are you talking about the Yan Family?"
Li Si had refrained from asking, but she had her suspicions. Given what had unfolded at Leng Ning’s engagement banquet, there were bound to be repercussions. They had merely avoided the storm by going to North City.
After such chaos, how could everything remain calm and uneventful?
Not to mention Yan Xuefeng. Upon returning home, once Mr. Yan Sr. found out, there was no chance he’d escape unscathed!
And as for Tian Yaruo, could they still maintain the same affection and harmony as before?
