Chapter 20 - Surrounded

The gorillas began to slide down the terrain, landing on the ground in order to corner the prey that had slipped into their territory.

Charles and Toen took the front lines, their weapons held and ready to be used.

"There are too many of them, they keep coming!" Toen yelled, trying to take the left side of the view since there were more gorillas coming from there.

"Shit! It's like they are drawn to something here! Dammit." Charles gritted his teeth.

'Yeah, no shit. You were making so much noise, I'd be surprised if they didn't find us here.' Adonis observed the monsters. 'Gorillas, uhn, I'm guessing they should be B-rank or higher. Then again... they cornered us; they are intelligent.'

Adonis sighed. 'I should have joined up with the other squad. This is really a pain in the ass.'

[Kill at least five gorilla monsters.]

[Reward: Eye of Enoch.]

Adonis was surprised.

'The system wants me to kill... the gorillas?'

"Quick! Get into formation, they are coming!" Charles yelled.

And just as he had said, the gorillas were charging forward at full speed, their eyes green and glowing.

"Fuck!"

Toen raised his blade up, embedding it with magic before making a slash.

The magic went forward, cutting one of the gorillas and bringing it to its knees.

A smile formed on Toen's face as he looked at Charles. "You saw that, right? I told you I was stron—"

From nowhere, a fast-moving rock slammed against the side of his head, and then—

Chuck!

His head imploded from the force. Toen's headless body fell to the ground.

It turned out one of the gorillas threw a rock at Toen out of anger.

And it seemed nobody saw it coming—that attack was simply too fast.

"A... ahhhhhh!" Yina screamed, shaking in fear as she fell to her knees and covered her ears.

The sound of the gorillas laughing was more traumatizing than the death she had witnessed.

Charles, still standing at the front line, could only freeze in fear, unable to think of what to do next.

"T... Toen?" he mumbled under his breath.

"Charles!" Adonis called out from behind. "This place is too closed in; the gorillas have more advantage. Let's get to higher ground."

Charles turned around to look at Adonis, but it was not a pleasant expression.

"Are you trying to mock me?! You think I'm weak?! Is that it?"

Adonis raised a brow. "What does surviving have to do with you being weak? We are clearly outnumbered."

"Shut up! A person just died, and you're only thinking about running away! You damn idiot!"

"One person dying is better than the whole group. If it makes you feel better, I'll stay behind and buy you time to run. Your friend there doesn't look like she can make it," Adonis uttered.

Yuki, still trembling on the ground.

"You'll buy time? Is that it?" Charles frowned. "I am a B-rank, and I'll be damned if I can't take care of small fries like these. You can go die for all I care; I'm fighting these monsters."

'Is this guy stupid?' Adonis could not believe what he was hearing from an experienced adventurer.

It would seem his disgust for Adonis had clouded his judgment.

Adonis would rather not spend any more energy on an idiot.

"Filo. Grab the girls and head to higher ground. I'll be right behind you," Adonis uttered.

"You want to fight the monsters yourself?" Filo almost frowned. Adonis's response to her question would determine if she would actually go through with it.

Taking a second to observe how Charles was fighting the gorillas with every ounce of strength he had, despite being outnumbered, Adonis sighed.

"I'll just be buying time. If it's something I can't handle, I'll leave immediately," he replied.

"You promise?"

"Yeah. I'm not dying until my guild is the top-running in the entire continent." Adonis smiled a bit.

This convinced Filo.

"Alright then. Be careful."

She charged forward, picking the cloaked girl from behind and placing her on her shoulder.

"A what the...!!!"

Filo grabbed Yuki too, although she was still too terrified to even put up a fight.

Once she had manhandled the two of them, Filo began to run up the walls, trying to get to the very top.

Once he noticed she was gone, Rashin uttered...

"Come forth."

A command known to only him.

From the gloomy ground behind him, 11 dark soldiers appeared, one being the Dark Orc King.

Almost instantly, the gorillas who had been harassing Charles to the point he was almost lifeless all turned their gazes toward Adonis.

The aura leaking from his body was not something monsters with high mana sense would easily ignore.

They knew this individual was strong.

Tossing Charles's damaged body to the side, they began to push toward Adonis.

Not that Adonis was fazed in any way.

If this was him a few months back, he would be shaking in his boots, thinking of a way he could escape.

But the current him now felt no fear whatsoever, almost as if he knew it was a guaranteed win, despite never fighting them before.

"Go, kill as many as you can," Adonis ordered his soldiers.

With a single snarl, they all charged forward, racing toward the group of gorillas, while Adonis stayed behind to observe the strength of the monsters for a while.

'Seems I can summon all my soldiers without there being any fatigue. The skill Mana Heal does help me quite a lot. I guess I have the system to thank for that.'

He smiled. 'And my soldiers have gotten quite strong too.'

He watched as the soldiers all worked together, taking down the gorillas one at a time. Although the soldiers were dying rapidly, Adonis easily brought them back to fight again.

At the top of the wall, Filo watched as Adonis's summons battled the monsters, worry etched on her face.

Even if Adonis had this weird necromancy, she still couldn't find it safe to leave him alone. She needed to always protect him.

"That boy..."

The cloaked girl spoke, pointing at Adonis.

"Adonis?" Filo looked at her.

"His name is Adonis, uhn... I think... he is the one I have been looking for. My Dahestero."
