Chapter 198: Devastated News

Aurora and Alex are on the way to Graystone’s family’s house after receiving the devastating news about Andrew Graystone’s sudden death.

She couldn’t ask during their trip there since Alex was busy calling his parents and other key people to organize the funeral.

Additionally, several influential figures close to him have begun reaching out.

Aurora also coordinated with other staff to smoothly adjust their plans for the business trip to Lunox City, which they had to cancel.

...

Upon arriving at Pine Hills, Alex had finished his phone call. Yet, he remained silent, staring at the view outside the window.

It was painful to see him sad. Aurora gently took his hand and held it, instantly capturing Alex’s attention as he turned to look at her.

"I’m so sorry, Alex..." Aurora said with genuine concern.

Even though she harbored intense anger towards Andrew Graystone for his actions, she couldn’t help but feel a deep sadness over his unexpected passing.

She sympathizes with Alex, understanding how much he truly respects his grandfather. Alex admires his Grandpa more than his father. However, the incident involving her caused Alex to deeply resent his Grandpa, ultimately severing all ties with him.

Alex remained silent, simply smiling back at her as he squeezed her hand gently.

"What caused his sudden death? Was he unwell?" Aurora asked. She feels puzzled.

This was one of the things that confused Aurora because she knew Andrew Graystone was very healthy—he didn’t have any serious internal illnesses.

"Dad was also unaware. He merely mentioned that Grandpa passed away peacefully during a nap. Nevertheless, the doctor who examined him indicated it was due to a heart attack..."

Alex took a moment to pause and breathe deeply before he continued, "The doctor suggested the autopsy, but Dad didn’t agree because of something he found out..."

Aurora was taken aback by Alex’s words, and her curiosity was piqued.

"Found what, Alex?"

Again, Alex’s face darkened.

He shook his head slowly before saying, "I don’t know. Dad asked me to see it myself. This makes me stressed because I could guess this is something related to me."

Alex’s answer made Aurora’s heart tighten. If this is about Alex, it means it is also about her.

Suddenly, a strange thought came to her mind: ’Did Grandpa Andrew commit suicide because he was upset with Alex?’

She gripped Alex firmly and looked him in the eyes.

"A-Alex... I’m really sorry! Did he take..."

"Rory, please... don’t ever say anything that’s on your mind." Alex quickly interrupted her, noticing the worry and fear in Aurora’s red eyes.

He added, "This isn’t your fault or mine. What happened to Grandpa was simply his fate."

Aurora struggled to find the words, trying several times, but she could only nod in agreement with what he said. What happened to Andrew Graystone was simply a part of his destiny.

...

At last, they reached the house.

In the room where Andrew Graystone’s lifeless body lay, Aurora stood quietly behind. Sophia, standing beside her, shared a similar expression—both were sad and shocked.

Aurora observed Alex and Matthew chatting near the bed while the doctor appeared to be explaining something to them with great care.

She has so much on her mind now and truly wishes to call her father.

’Did Dad know about it?’ she wondered, scanning her surroundings, but she couldn’t spot her father among the few people in the room.

So lost in her thoughts, Aurora failed to notice Alex standing before her.

"Rory, you should take a rest..." Alex’s gentle voice drew Aurora from her thoughts; she glanced up and met Alex’s gaze.

"I’m fine..." Aurora smiled at him, yet Alex noticed that her smile failed to reach her eyes. frёeweɓηovel_coɱ

This made Alex a bit worried. He couldn’t shake off the fear that his wife might faint, especially since he knew exactly what she was thinking: his Grandpa had committed suicide.

"Yes, Aurora, what Alex said was right. You need to rest, dear. We can’t do anything here, either. Let the man handle everything..." Sophia chimed in. She could also see the trace of exhaustion in Aurora’s expression.

Alex took Aurora’s hand and was surprised to feel how cold her hand was now. After excusing himself to his mother, he led Aurora out of his Grandpa’s bedroom.

Aurora followed Alex upstairs to their bedroom. The room they usually use when staying overnight in the main house.

"Rory, could you please wait for me here? I have several things to take care of downstairs..." Alex gently said as he walked her to the bed.

"Alex, I’m really okay. I don’t feel exhausted. I just feel sad and worried, too," Aurora smiled at him, trying to convince him. "I’ll wait for you here. But I don’t want to sleep. I’m not sleepy anyway..."

When Aurora noticed him frown slightly, she quickly shifted the subject to prevent Alex from focusing on her physical condition.

"Alex, has my father been informed yet?"

Alex didn’t respond immediately. After watching her worried gaze, he said, "Alright, if you don’t want to sleep. But let’s sit first and talk..."

He escorted her to the seating area. "Your father is coming here with Martin and Tina." He said.

Aurora’s eyes beamed with delight. She felt relieved that her father would come, too.

She was even happier to know Tina was coming as well. At least she has someone to keep her company when Alex is busy helping his father settle things.

"Thank you, Alex. Thank you for asking Tina and my dad to come here and stay with us."

"No need. I’m ready to do anything for my wife." Alex feels a wave of relief at her genuine smile. "And, Rory, your father reached out to me to ask my permission if he could come by. He wishes to say his final goodbye to Grandpa."

Aurora was no longer surprised to hear that. She knew her father admired Andrew Graystone. Just like her, she never doubted him because, all this time, the old man had been kind to them.
