Re: Timeless Apocalypse-Chapter 119: Enchants
Uriel had been forced to make a choice.
The first path had been one of emotionlessness, turning him into a hollow machine of flesh, endlessly efficient and immutable.
The downsides were evident, but the upsides even more so. Had Uriel chosen this path, calling him a Divinity of Magic would have been the highest of insults.
In a step, he’d have reached a boundary of magic only a very select few had ever been allowed to witness, let alone reach.
Not only that, but he would’ve also become absolutely immune to all mental attacks, and as a result may have even been able to regain parts of his memory with great effort, breaking part of the Sin’s influence.
It was a glorious path, but one without color.
But Uriel was almost convinced that this was one of Thoryl’s schemes. What would happen if a man with a Spark attuned to the emotions and the heart suddenly lost all emotions?
He’d have been a cripple, both in soul and body.
There was also a high chance such a path, inversely, would make Uriel’s spark even more powerful but with a factor as dangerous as Thoryl in the equation, he doubted it.
The second path was one where his mind broke into endless fragments, each gaining a consciousness and soul, across which the burden of emotions would be spread.
For this path, the downsides were evident as well; madness and identity. He’d be a mad hive without identity and purpose, a shell of absolute and endless chaos.
It’d make his mind absolutely unrivaled across any realm and known tier, and if he somehow managed to form one consciousness to rule across all shards, it would make him a wonder to behold. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
Beyond this, his aether talent and affinity to his own spark would reach a level the universe most likely had never seen and would never see again.
It was a chaotic path, blinding in its radiance.
And in this one, too, Uriel could see a potential lever Thoryl could use to further break him down.
Such a path would instantly ostracise him from his biggest advantage; his companions.
As a mad hive of chaos, why would they keep him around? What if he turned on them?
And even if they did keep him, just how long and how much effort would it take to get him back?
Would that not stop both Enoch and Ayah in the grand goals they had, goals that would most likely shape the futures of their worlds?
One avenue cut him off from his companions, and the other crippled them.
Realising this truth and seeing the hidden layers and traps in every single move Thoryl made shook Uriel to his core.
How could a man be so all-seeing? How could one be so impossibly shrewd and sly?
Every step he took was one the man had already predicted and accounted for, moulding the very environment and world to his will to slowly but surely trap him.
As the seconds passed, less and less paths of escape seemed to exist and the guillotine came closer and closed.
And worst of all, if all this was proof of Thoryl’s intelligence, surely then the man knew Uriel would most likely choose a third option.
So, where was the trap in that third option?
Uriel had chosen to endure.
What boons did he gain from that third path? What gifts? What advantage?
And what poison would he find deep within him as a result of it? What had he lost and given up in turn?
It seemed only time would tell.
...
"Haha!"
Uriel beamed in joy.
Sitting cross-legged on the hard ground, not far from his little camp, he was soaked in sweat and grime that’d accumulated over the last day.
But he didn’t care about that in the least.
In his hands, he held a small silver orb, covered in snaking lines of gold and white.
His Mage Tool!
’Status!’

Uriel read the description of his Mage Tool and its enchantments line by line, each word he ingested only making his mad smile widen.
He shivered in excitement.
Without waiting, he pressed the small silver sphere onto his glabella, right between his brow and at the center of his forehead, thus binding the tool to his core.
WHOOOOSH!
Harsh winds imploded around him, the sphere melting into his skin and seeping through his flesh and bone, becoming one with him and resonating with his core before forming a link that couldn’t be broken.
But Uriel knew it wasn’t over.
It was time for another of his suspicions to be tested.
