Chapter 29: Dual Cultivator

The moon hung low over the Elf Village, its pale luminescence lighting the path of the uneasy night, left for the movement by Dimm.

He made his way through the building where he had got his attire, and soon enough, he stood at the window of one of the chambers in this building.

The next moment, Dimm leaped into this chamber through the window, waking the young lady who slept gorgeously, and as well causing her to block her sight from the sudden pierce of the moon’s rays which spilled through her open windows.

This young lady happened to be Loriel, and she sat up with a startled blink, only to find the window closing quietly before the familiar figure that had jumped in.

"Dimm...? Sorry, Leader?" Her voice trembled with a mixture of sleep and confusion.

He didn’t respond immediately. Instead, he stood in before the slightly open windows, looking into space as if he were studying it, then finally closed it completely.

"You shouldn’t be here," Loriel said again, hugging her knees beneath the linen sheet that she had used to cover herself.

At this instant, Dimm turned and finally spoke with a gentle voice. "I couldn’t sleep, Loriel. I’ve been thinking about this, I’ve been thinking about leaving. I don’t want to, but I have to."

Loriel only narrowed her eyes, trying to get meaning into what Dimm was saying.

"I’m hungry," Dimm said again.

"Uhm...if that’s your reason for being here, then I will serve you what I have so that you can return immediately," Loriel said, getting up from the bed.

"I don’t intend to leave immediately," Dimm murmured, looking up at Loriel who forwarded her eyes to get what he said. "What do you have if I may ask?"

"I prepared one of the spicy dishes you can find from the South Grove market," Loriel asked.

"That wasn’t my intended reply though. But then, if you mean the Mapo Tofu, the one with fire herbs, then I will be fine with it," Dimm commented, moving to sit at the edge of Loriel’s bed.

Loriel blinked again surprised, and opened her mouth to say something but ended up closing it back. She only gave a small nod and ventured into the kitchen.

As soon as she had left, she returned with a tray of dishes in it, placing it on the low table, and sitting beside it.

Dimm stood from the bed, to join Loriel. The warm aroma of what was contained in the dish—tofu, minced mushrooms, and crimson spices filled the room. They ate in silence at first, until Dimm decided to break the unspoken tension growing between them.

"You did well today," Dimm said, his gaze shifting from the food to Loriel, but more to the girl. "Forming a diversion team, and leading them to guard the supplies was not something everyone can do under pressure."

Loriel smiled faintly, shoving a spoon of tofu into her mouth. "I was only doing what I was instructed, how I could."

"You did more than that," Dimm let a brief grin spread on his chin, looking down at the food to collect another chunk into his mouth. "That’s what leadership entails. Doing more... even when no one expects it of you."

"I didn’t make the wrong choice though having selected you at the time, and I won’t be making the wrong choice selecting you to be the first this time too," Dimm let the grin on his chin widen a little.

Loriel’s eyes lowered. "I’m grateful for acknowledging me to act in your absence, but I’m just a tailor. Now, many people whisper— ’what does sewing have to do with leading?’"

"That’s what they... say," Dimm murmured, setting down his spoon. "But that’s not what those who chose you thought, not to talk of say."

Their eyes met.

"And here you are," Dimm added.

Loriel didn’t speak. Instead, she leaned forward, wiping a spot of sauce from the corner of Dimm’s mouth with her thumb.

When she pulled her hand back, Dimm gently took it in his.

"Loriel," he called with a soft tone. "Why did you stop cultivating?"

Loriel didn’t respond to his question. She only lowered her head once again.

"I came here tonight," Dimm said, with her hands still in his, "because I’ve developed trust for you... and I need to share something more. I want us to cultivate together."

Loriel’s breath caught. "Are you saying—"

"Yes." Dimm moved closer. "If we cultivate together... you won’t just carry my trust. You will carry a part of me. Shall we cultivate?"

Loriel lowered her eyes, cheeks reddening into a blush. "I know what kind of cultivation you’re talking about. Dual cultivation. Does it not involve intimacy?"

"Hmm, it does," Dimm agreed, letting go of her hand and rising from where they sat. "But I also know it’s not what you think, it’s a sacred vow between the two cultivators. I want us to share a vow, Loriel."

She stood and crossed to her bedside. Her hand hovered above the quilt before she turned back to him. "If that’s what you wish. But you must know, in bed, that you are no longer the leader. No matter the position, you will be Dimm, and I will be Loriel."

Dimm turned sharply on hearing these words, discarding his robe which served as his pajamas completely. Loriel stepped closer, hands trembling as they touched his skin.

They kissed, hesitantly at first. Then again, slower. With each breath, their bodies aligned. Gently, Dimm pulled off what clothing remained on Loriel’s body, while she did the same for his pants.

Soon, both of them lay together beneath the blanket, skin to skin.

Before they got deeper into the moment, the screen materialized before Dimm while he was above Loriel, who kept kissing his chest and caressing his body.

«Need for Devourer to be Activated...»

’Go on,’ Dimm thought in his mind and tightened his teeth. ’Disturbances like this should never exist.’

Loriel had rolled him over, now beneath his legs in between, sucking at his dick while he watched the screen appear with notifications.

«Devourer Activated!»

«The Devourer system makes it easier to absorb, hence, share the abilities and powers of your opponents or colleagues. It is automatically notified of this use during direct contact, but only summoned during indirect contact.»

«Direct Contact Established.»

«Space Blanket Available»

«The Space Blanket is a cover fluid that serves the sole purpose of this power and ability absorption.»

«Would you like to go on and activate?»

While the information showed on the screen, Dimm grunted from the pleasure he was getting in between his legs.

’Yes,’ he communicated with his mind.

«Space Blanket Activated!»

Before whatever would come out of this blanket activation took place, Dimm grasped Loriel by the hand and pulled her up to himself.

At this moment, their breathing came in ragged gasps, syncing with each other’s pulses.

Still, at this moment, a golden fluid canopy flared briefly before enveloping the two of them, invisible to the eye, except for that of Dimm.

Soft moans filled the room at some point, then grunts, then loud moans, and this intimacy continued. Time passed, though neither counted. And in this bliss of passion, they exchanged positions, and as well, took on different sex positions.

Only when they reached their climax, Dimm fell silently over the bed, laying beside Loriel who dropped her soft hands on his chest, and her head rested upon him as well.

"You’re more than a tailor," he whispered.

She chuckled lightly. "And you’re softer than a general."

Dimm smiled, a rare thing. Then, the rays from the moon caught the edge of their brows, and another system notification flashed faintly in the air above them, visible only to Dimm.

«Dual Cultivation Activated»

«Trust with Loriel: 83%»

«New Title Unlocked: Dual Cultivator»

«Ability Absorbed: Energy Manipulation (Initiate Level)»

«The system will upgrade this level of ability absorbed, but that is only when the absorption is nurtured, hence, devour will be completed.»

«For the nurture, a live core is essential | Searching for Live Cores...»

’So, this is why Minxx mentioned that those cores will be used during my cultivation? Interesting.’

«... | ...»

«Seven Live Cores Found from Inventory»

«Kinds: 4 Copper Cores | 2 Silver Cores | 1 Gold Core.»

«Which of these kinds are you willing to spare?»

«Worthy to note is that these live cores can only be used one at a time after undergoing cultivation»

Dimm got confused. Minxx didn’t tell him about this classification. He decided to trust his instincts while making his decision.

’Silver Core.’

«1 Silver Core Collected»

«Nurturing Absorption | Completed»

«Ability Transformation Initiated...»

«...borrowing course from Evolution System»

«Borrow Completed | Connection Succeeded»

«... | ...»

«Evolving Ability: Energy Manipulation»

«Ability reached Master Level»

«Your connection and expression with your host will help or mar the evolution upgrade.»

«Devour Completed!»

As Dimm was drowned in studying the system notification, Loriel tapped on his chest, calling him back to the reality of what had happened.

"It’s almost dawn," she said. "You should get prepared to leave before the villagers begin to set out."

"That’s right," Dimm agreed. "Go and prepare the bath for me then."

Immediately Loriel left for her bathroom, and Dimm saw another screen had replaced the former.

«New Feature Unlocked Due to Cultivation | Qi»

«A spiritual energy store that keeps track of score points attained from cultivation. Reaching a certain Qi score point can also grant quick evolution of abilities gained through cultivation»

«Qi SP: 100/1000»

Dimm continued gazing at the system to assimilate all the information he’d read, as well as understand it when Loriel’s voice distracted him.

"The bath is ready."
