Re: Elf Prince—A Degenerate's Second Chance-Chapter 97. Village Elders Decision
97. Village Elders Decision
But then the night was easily forgotten since nothing special had happened and everyone chose to dwell in the peace and quiet the forest now received in a long time and it was all thanks to their prisoner who was still wrongly accused.
In all the peace and quiet there the noise of arguments coming from a long wooden hut sitting on one of the trees huge branches. It had thick leaf roofing and a little decor on the outside, inside the elders of the beast village all sat on wooden stools, they were all locked in a heated discussion on the future of their prisoners.
They did not bear the intention of killing them since they had saved their home and lives, the only problem they had was their timing it was just too coincidental that they managed to appear on the same day that they were attacked.
The grandfather of Merylin banged his wooden staff on the ground creating a loud echoing sound that caused them all to silence themselves. "The fact is that the elf boy bears primal magic and the healer was responsible for keeping a majority of our people and warriors alive as for the thief we will decide his fate also."
"Words are all you are good for you old fox, we need action." Said another elder, a female with racoon nose and hair, her eyes had wrinkles and dark bags under them. "We already know that in the end we will have them take the trial of fire heart." 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
The space withing quieted as no one spoke for a minute and when they did it was all in acceptance of the idea. "Very well then by noon tomorrow the prisoners will partake in the trial of fire heart." Merylin’s grandfather said and soon the dispersed leaving him behind in the hut for a few more seconds. He looked out of the window for a few more seconds to make sure they were gone and when he was sure of it he closed the curtains and dropped the curtain over the door way.
He then turned and walked to a corner of the hut where there was a small hole along the wall and struck it with his stick. There was a pained moan at the other end which turned to pained cries, a few seconds passed and a figure appeared in the doorway with a hand over one of her eyes.
"I knew I had a rat problem." The old beast kin chuckled weakly as he leaned into his seat and sat on on in
Merylin still hissed in pain but she swallowed it down barely and walked up to another stood and looked at it but did not sit on it. "You know if I go blind I’ll take one of your eyes gramps."
The old beast kin chuckled and said in a playful manner. "As if my old eyeball would do you any good. You were worried about the boy I suppose, he did save your life." He could remember seeing her crying for help with the young elf boy in her lap, she showed great concern for him and although many people did not seem to like this they had no way to say no. She was the granddaughter of the village chief and even without the title she always did as she pleased not because she could, neither was it because she wanted to but simply because she was strong enough to.
The only issue he had with her was that she simply neglected her studies and mana classes. She chose to be one more of a warrior than a mage and he did not like this, he preferred for his groundaughter to be more rounded. Elze who was her twin did the opposite and neglected physical training.
Merylin finally took a seat on another stool and said in a low soft voice. "It’s nothing like that, I tried to kill him when we first met and I could have if he let me. I feel like if I had taken that chance I would also kill the village. I think he’s a good person though his choices of sex are all wrong but I did notice that during the fight he only crippled his enemies and not kill them."
There were many things she said that he wanted to hint on but he chose not to attack the moment. He rarely saw her breakdown like this and knew it was his job to comfort her, aside from her twin sister he was the one she confided in most.
"If he’s really a good person then there’s nothing to worry about, the total of fire heart will work in his favour." The village chief said.
Merylin calmed down a bit and asked. "What’s the trial of fire heart, I don’t think I’ve heard it."
The village chief scoffed at her. "If you had read any of our works you would know and more importantly you went to see the prisoners. Imagine if someone who did not have your best interest in heart saw you then you would be having a discussion with the elders."
Merylin still clutching to her eye in pain winced and then frowned. "Elze, that snitch."
The village chief softened his voice and said. "Easy now, she only had your best interest in heart. The more important question now is why are you angry? You should be free and stable like the wind."
Merylin raised her legs and set it on the stool before her and sighed in relief. "Am i— angry?" The question was directed to herself and not her grandfather. "Hey gramps, what do you do when you feel close to giving up and don’t want to give up."
The village chief raised an eyebrow and answerd. "Simple, if you done want to give up then don’t."
Every time she slept or closed her eyes she would always remember the look the elf boy had in his eyes. He felt like he was having an internal conflict while battling the ogre.
"Strange." The words escaped her lips as she looked at the number of fireflies that stayed in a small jar and illuminated the room.
The village chief looked at her and asked. "I don’t follow."
Merylin hesitated for a few seconds before saying. "The elf boy, I clearly remember him having two beasts, a wind type and an earth type I think. I wonder where he hid them."
In thatonent the village leader’s eyes widened causing Merylin to pay close attention to him, she wondered if she had said anything out of the ordinary but it did not seem to sound odd. "Gramps? What’s wrong?"
The look her grandfather gave her was sudden and intense, he held it there for a few seconds besides saying. "If you had said that he was a beast tamer earlier then most of this could have been avoided."
In that moment she gasped. "You say what?"
