Re: Elf Prince—A Degenerate's Second Chance-Chapter 94. Another Day In The Cage
94. Another Day In The Cage
By the time the sun was still up in the sky indicating that it was still daytime. He was still lying down on the bed on the leaves and from his senses he could tell that his body was still intact which was good news to him. His gaze went up to the single long steel chain that connected the cage to the huge tree branch. During the heat of the battle he had failed to stop and notice what kind of tree it was.
It was much more massive than anything he had ever seen before, it was like a smaller version of a castle set up in a forest.
Eryndor could feel something moving next to him, his senses kicked in and he rolled away and raised his arms in an attack stance. His eyes fell on the beautiful young woman who had saved him earlier. She was currently asleep perhaps from exhaustion from looking over him for so long and for that Eryndor was grateful and indebted to her.
"What the hell was that, it was so sloppy. Are you sure old man cinder trained you well? Maybe you ran away." The not so pleasing voice of his senior disciple called to him and he did not fancy it all that much.
"Old man cinder?" Eryndor could not help himself so he blurted it out his thoughts and regretted it shortly after.
Ash stood at a distance with his back resting on the cold metal bars if the cage. His head dropped as his gaze was on Eryndor as he spoke. "That’s what we called him back in the day, man was a legend— still is."
Eryndor knew his uncle was popular but he did not think that is was to the extent that was considered legendary. "I think you’re mistaken, unc-- The master is not that great, though his techniques are amazing." Eryndor wanted to hide the fact that he was related to the man that had trained and sealed away the ability of a nut job so he tried as much as possible to stay neutral. Be he knew above all others that he was a terrible actor when it came down to it.
Ash cast him a confused glance before saying in a cold tone. "Are you saying you have no idea who your master is? The cinder king is currently the most powerful flame user in the world. I guess you’ve been licked away somewhere all this time."
Eryndor did not know his uncle carried such a title, he had thought that the title of "cinder king" was self proclaimed. To think he was training with one of the strongest people on the planet.
Ash cleared his throat and called his attention. "Your babe was here to see ya earlier but you didn’t wake so we figured you were sill recovering."
Now Eryndor was confused he did not have a friend key a lone a female counterparts. "W-- who?" He asked.
Ash nodded his head and pointed to the farthest regions of the trees. "The princess of the beasties, the feisty one with the daggers. She came to see you quite often and when we said you were awake, she was glad at first I think and when you did not wake she was traumatised. I wonder how you made a babe while still in prison, I guess this is the hero’s treatment."
Eryndor could only think of one face, it was— her. The beast girl with orange hair and huge beady orange eyes. But why would she come to see him. Was she interested in him, they were enemies and they knew nothing about the other. He wondered if she was really worried about him or whether she was sending to put up an act. Whatever it was there was no reason thinking about it at the moment and he needed desperately to escape from this prison as soon as possibly and to do that he— a thought came to his mind in that moment.
"If you still had your magic why not cut through the steel and get away?" Eryndor asked.
Ask simply smirked and said. "You want me to melt steel, you are more of an idjit than I thought. Sure if I use up most of my mana I might manage it but then what next? Fight through an army of beasties without magic, use your brain for once and I thought we weren’t on speaking terms."
Eryndor sighed and climbed up to his feet and surveyed his surroundings. "Do you really want me to ignore you again?" As tempting as the idea was he wanted to get as much information as he could from him.
Ash shrugged and said in a discouraging tone. "Meh.
Eryndor ignored him and asked. "Don’t they feel us?"
Ash replied this time with a slight hint of humour but the wrong type of humour. "Beasties don’t believe in caring for their criminals, in the few weeks that I’ve been here I haven’t been fed zilch. I just pick off the fruits that fall from the tree time to time and store them. Unfortunately the mercenaries messed up with the tree’s mood and it hasn’t been bearing much. This tree you see is magical, I think it’s called a halo tree, wherever there one there are beasties around."
Eryndor looked at Ash with confused eyes and said. "I save their lives and they do this to me, how ungrateful."
Ash barely moved as he spoke. "Doesn’t matter, you trespassed but if you didn’t kill one of them then you’re fine."
"So you killed one of theirs?" Eryndor could not help but ask..
Ash started to play with his fingers, Eryndor could see a distant look in his eyes which was hard to discern from the distance separating them. "I happen to be a bounty hunter of sorts and my mark happened to fall on their territory when confronted I tried to defend myself by apparently the use of flame magic on the property was a taboo. They managed to drug me and here I am waiting for their final say. It’s been two bloody weeks, those elders are damn slow."
Eryndor did not say anything for a while but stayed silently in thoughts for a few minutes before saying. "Why not weaken the bars over time and break it."
Ash pointed a finger up, "I can’t take the chance of having the chain snap, I have no idea who made it or for how long it’s been around."
There was a more pressing matter he had to deal with, "If I have to go really bad, like right now. How persay can I go about it."
It was then that Ash smiled out of raw humour and pointed to a corner of the steel cage with a small hole made into it. "We usually just go whenever. You see the beasties don’t give a shit where we shit or do so we just do it over their farm grounds."
Eryndor resisted the urge to throw up and said with deep revolt. "That’s just wrong, you guys are all wrong."
Ash still carrying his smile nodded. "Well they are animals and we don’t have much if a choice."
"Did Elise?" Eryndor broke into a hot sweat as he thought of it.
Ash looked extremely surprised. "Who?" It took him a while to notice who was being referred to. "Oh her, she’s been holding it for three days now. She’s got strong bladder control but then again we haven’t eaten or drank anything in three days so we’d be dead in a week at most unless we received a lesson which I highly doubt.
"What the fuck man, I want out of here this instant." Eryndor cried as he fell to his knees.
Ash chuckled lightly and said. "I know it’s hell, next time don’t go playing hero."
