Chapter 81: 81. Savior Or Bodyguard

81. Savior Or Bodyguard

Eryndor only had one reason to intervene in the matters of the beast people and that was to pay back the beast girl for soaring his life. He had no reason other than that to care for their lives. He stated to walk forward to the number of mercenaries before him and counted seven.

.They were on high alert after seeing his little display a second ago. They held flames in their hands. Eryndor was familiar with flame magic lore than anything else so he had no problem with this, he knew this would mark the first time he would be fighting others and not beasts. He took a moment to think what it would be like to kill a person but he doubted it would matter much since a battle was a kill or be killed situation.

"I don’t suppose any of you want to give up before I begin." He said with confidence resonating in his voice. He was giving them at least a chance to choose their fates. Eryndor had been dying to try out his skill on others and this moment was just fitting for that.

The beast girl’s sister dispelled her wall of wind defense and bent down to pick up her badly hurt sister who was still clinging to life barely. She had no idea who the strange boy was but she was grateful for the distraction that enabled her to pick up her sister and leave the scene.

"Merylin, you know that boy?" The sister asked with extreme concern.

The beast girl who went by Merylin grunted and said nothing. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

The mercenaries proceeded to throw fireballs at Eryndor without an hint of hesitation which was to be expected. Eryndor started forward and cut throught their flames with his speed and reflexes. He closed in on the first mercenary and use the basic sword style art he had learned to a great degree to strike him through the heart. His attack ended up being deflected as his opponent saw right through it.

As two other mercenaries approached him from the sides they half expected to see the young boy panicking but on his face was labelled a wide grin. He grunted in shock as he looked to be enjoying the battle.

Eryndor grinned and changed his stance in an instant and cut the mercenary down his belly. Blood gushed out of it like ketchup but Eryndor was already moving to his next opponent who he slayed on the waist, then into the third. One by one he cut through the filed of mercenaries and inflicted grave wounds in them, he did not want to kill and enemy he did not beat a personal grudge with. In a few minutes the bodies of over a dozen mercenaries lay on the ground rolling in pain and blood.

In this moment some of the beast people who had fled to a safer distance and including the beast girl and her sister had seen this spectacle and were now in awe. It was not that they had never seen such battle prowess but that he did not kill a single one of the mercenaries. To the beast people who knew only brutality and swiftness of action they were perplexed.

They thought for a moment if he was fighting for them or if he was secretly working with their oppressors. Why else would he main the people that aimed to kill him.

Eryndor then turned his attention to the three carriages that stood at a distance where beasts were being ushered into it and pondered for a bit. "I wonder if I should save them or just keep fighting. But if I keep fighting I would run out of stamina eventually, freeing this people will increase the number of fighters to some extent but what if they are not fighter, then it would increase the number of casualties I have to protect. I’m not really going at this thinking thing."

He stood there his thoughts a cacophony of noise and chaos, this was one of the toughest situations he had ever been put in. Physically he could only hold them off for so long but currently the battle was more of a mental than a physical one. What was his priority to fight or to save the civilians? If he saved the civilians could he protect them till they got to safety? Since he was an intruder they would also see him and an enemy with an even more grievous purpose in kind. He wondered what this was what his uncle meant by "the world is a whirlpool of battles and experiences." Back then he did not understand what it meant but now he did.

He was yet to participate in the fight and he was facing a battle greater than the fight itself. Just then a voice called to him and it was a familiar one.

"Metun lanquis! This way!"

He looked a few feet away to see the beast girl approaching him with her sister barely keeping up with her. For some reason she looked to be much better than she was earlier, she was still bloody but most of wounds had healed themselves in the span of time when Eryndor had been fighting.

He has no way to explain this except to suggest that either she or her sister was a healer.

She stopped before him trying to catch her breath as she clutched tight to her sides and willed the ribs not to give away. "You want to save them don’t you. If you take out the guards I will lead them out."

Eryndor was surprised. Did she read his intention. If he did what she said not he would be able to save them and let her and her sister do the work of leading them away. He wondered what part of this play he actually occupied. Was he a saviour or a bodyguard.

The beast girl looked directly at the elf boys eyes and waited for a fraction of a second before the turned and darted for the carriages that held her people prisoner. She wondered why he was helping her, there was only one conclusion and she dreaded to even think of it.

The young elf boy was an even bigger threat with an hidden agenda to infiltrate her people, for all she knew he could be the ring leader to the whole game.

"What an irony that I a degenerate am finally needed by someone." Eryndor thought to himself.
