Chapter 334: Hiring The Dwarves

"Oi... you piece of shit. Try to cover that mistake again, and I swear, I’ll ram a stick up your ass and shovel dirt with your mouth. Got that?"

"Yes, boss!"

Rael tilted his head at the ruckus as he glanced at the hundreds of dwarves in front of him.

They were working on some construction project. Scaffolding was everywhere, and building blocks were being laid out at surprising speeds.

There was also a tiny touch of magic Rael managed to spot every now and again. It was mainly used to reinforce materials, sometimes slightly levitate them, so once they fell, they wouldn’t break on impact.

They are a pretty rowdy bunch, and I guess that guy threatening to ram something up someone’s ass is the boss of these dwarves, Rael deduced and took a step forward, reappearing behind the vocal dwarf.

"Hey," Rael called out. "You are their leader, right? I got a few questions I want to ask you."

"Hmm?" The dwarf turned around, his expression grumpy. "If you’re here to collect my debt, then buzz off. I got a project going on, so I’m busy."

Rael shook his head with a faint smile. "It’s not that. Remember the Celestara mountainside elevator construction project?"

"Who’s Celestara?" the dwarf asked, falling into thought. "Oh, you mean that new backwater country below Yrgon? Yeah, I remember that project. What about it?"

Rael’s brows twitched. "Any progress on that project? Maybe... have you established contact with the people of Celestara?"

"And why would I do that? I don’t get paid to reach out to people. It’s usually the other way around." The dwarf smirked. "If you want to meet the great Gurlash, you must book an appointment! It’s very expensive!"

Gurlash let out a hearty laugh. "Not even kings can force me to move! Hahaha!"

"I see..." Rael nodded and extended his hand. "I’m Rael Sutekh, the king of Celestara. It’s a pleasure to meet you."

The moment he finished his words, Gurlash nearly choked on his saliva as he began coughing violently.

"K-King Rael Sutekh? You’re joking, right?"

Noticing Rael’s silent dismissal, Gurlash slightly bowed.

"Apologies... I just get one too many requests from people asking me to fix their fucking yard. We’re dwarves, not carpenters."

Rael took a subtle glance at the residential quarters they were building before nodding.

"So now that we’re on the same page, would you like to talk terms?"

"We don’t do terms," Gurlash scoffed. "All we care about is money. Pay upfront, we do the job, and then both parties leave happy. That’s the way we operate, Your Majesty."

A faint smile appeared on Rael’s face. "Good. That’s what I like to hear. So how much do you people go for then?"

"Depends on the project," Gurlash replied plainly. "I heard you want each of the crater’s sides to have an elevator, yeah? That might be a bit costly."

"Millions?"

Gurlash raised his finger upward, making Rael let out a sigh.

"What’s the set price then?"

"We’ll have to measure it first, calculate the material costs, and then finally, our own share," Gurlash explained, then pointed to the building beside them. "We’ll need to finish this project first. It might take us a week or so. After that—"

"And if I pay you to put this project on hold?" Rael cut him off.

"Look, Your Majesty, I doubt just anyone has 150 million lying aroun—"

<Payment Sent: 150,000,000 Trell.>

<The recipient has 5 minutes to accept or deny your payment.>

"There are a few things I wish to do before my wife comes back, and one of them is finishing the elevators," Rael said with a smile. "So I’d be really happy if you could make up your mind."

Gurlash stared at the air for a few moments, his finger traveling slowly toward a certain button.

Eventually...

<Confirmed.>

<Balance Updated: -150,000,000 Trell | New Balance: 22,784,035,136 Trell>

"Take it as a token of goodwill if you want to maintain your conscience," Rael commented. "But I’m taking this as a sign of acceptance."

Gurlash gulped and took a few steps back.

He glanced at his men, then at the interface displaying his sudden richness.

"Fuck..." Gurlash mumbled under his breath.

"Baaaaastards! Stop everything you’re doing!"

The other dwarves halted, looking at him with confusion.

"What’s up, boss? You got us early lunch?"

"Nah, no way. He’s probably going to flaunt about his newborn, tsk tsk... I heard about her so much, even I’m starting to want a kid myself."

"Kekeke, try saying that after you stop spending 60% of your income on brothels."

"Shut up," Gurlash said flatly. "The reason I stopped you all is because we got a new request. It’s urgent business, and we’ll have to put our current project on hold."

Before anyone could protest, Gurlash flashed a money sign with his fingers.

That was enough to silence everyone as they took off their caps and adjusted their clothes.

"Alright, boss, where to?"

Gurlash chuckled and turned back to Rael.

"So, Your Majesty. We’ll need to find mercenaries to escort us, so that might take a few hours. But don’t worry, we’ll be sure to pay extra so we can arrive in Celestara by tomorrow at the latest."

Rael shook his head. "That won’t do. I’ll be right back."

With that, he turned and navigated through the city. Eventually, he arrived at the central plaza where most of the players were gathered.

"Looking for a party! Level 60 Fire Mage. I’ve played the beta!"

"Looking for more! Need 2 tanks and 1 healer! Level 25 dungeon!"

"Selling myself for 1,000 Trell!"

These were people who would take on any request, and when Rael finally showed up, they halted, staring at him with wide eyes.

<x569 Players are trying to inspect you. Do you wish to allow their inspection? Yes / No>

Normally, he had this setting turned off, but in this case, he wanted to get the greedy bastards on his side.

Therefore...
