Chapter 311: A Small Little Lead
<Hidden Scenario Progress Updated!>
<Objective: Kill all the Chosen Ones. Current Progress: 1 / 12 → 3 / 12>
Rael stared at their corpses for a moment longer before turning his gaze toward a single head to the side.
He didn’t know Timon much at all. They hadn’t even had a single conversation.
But the fact that he was killed by these two psychopaths left a bad taste in Rael’s mouth.
Even so, he walked up to the others and quickly untied them.
Especially Julian, who immediately ran over to Todd and began healing him, making sure he didn’t bleed to death.
After the others were freed, Jane approached him.
It looked like she was about to hug him, but instead, she bowed down in gratitude.
"Thank you... and I’m glad you’re still alive," she said softly.
Rael chuckled. "Don’t sweat it. I was just passing by, so I decided to help out."
"Ugh..." Natasha groaned, clutching her chest. "I think those fuckers stole a rib bone from me..."
Rael rolled his eyes. "Julian, when you’re done tidying Todd up, go help her out."
Just like that, Julian went around healing everybody, even Rael, who insisted he was fine.
20 minutes later, the group was fully healed.
"So what was that about?" Rael asked. "How did you stumble upon those maniacs?"
Todd took a deep breath, his eyes narrowing.
"It was a total fluke. We found those two underneath some rubble and saved them. They seemed normal, so we didn’t say anything, but after we told them about Timon’s Shrine tracking ability... their personalities changed," Todd said, clenching his fists. "They went from nice kids to ruthless monsters who knocked us all out and brought us into this cave."
He turned to Timon’s body.
"And he... he didn’t give in to their demands, so they killed him. We couldn’t even help him, as they somehow zapped all our strength away and made us watch as they tore him apart."
Rael listened attentively, then slowly nodded.
"I see... I’m sorry I wasn’t here earlier," Rael said with slight regret.
The groupmates exchanged a few glances, then flashed him a smile.
"Don’t be," Natasha chimed in. "If not for you, the rest of us would be dead too... and because of your help last time, I was able to survive long enough to bury Roman."
A faint smile appeared on his face.
But before the fuzzy talk could continue, Todd cleared his throat and spoke.
"It looks like Seoul is the only thing left on the map."
"Hmm...?" Rael tilted his head. "What do you mean?" ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
"We went out very far, to where the neighboring cities should’ve been, but there was nothing," Todd explained. "It was as if time passed faster outside of Seoul, so all the buildings decayed and mountains grew in place of them."
"So what you’re saying is—"
Todd nodded. "Yep. I believe the people in Seoul are the only ones left alive. Before the awakening began, there were ten million of us. Now, I believe there are fewer than 100,000 people alive."
On one end, Rael’s earlier worry was eased.
He thought he’d need to run around the world to find people, but it seemed like that wasn’t the case.
However...
What the fuck was the point of the expansion then? Make the world bigger so the few people remaining can explore it? That’s stupid.
"But..." Todd continued, his voice falling low. "We have seen a few... other beings running around."
"Monsters?" Rael asked.
Todd shook his head. "Not monsters. You know those busty elves from the comics? I think we managed to find one while traveling around. But before we could talk to them, they ran away."
The world expansion brought forth new species...? Maybe? Rael theorized.
Even so, he asked Todd about everything he knew, and only after roughly an hour had passed were they finally done.
In the end, it seemed like they didn’t know much at all. After all, they didn’t have enough time to explore the world within only a few days.
Still, he chatted a bit with the others, and as they were all preparing to head out, Julian spoke a few words that made Rael halt in place.
"Melissa is much shorter than I expected though... at least she gave me an autograph."
Jane giggled. "You say that, but I was the one who asked her for the autograph. You just sat there, all starry-eyed, alongside Minos."
"H-Hey now... I tried to move, but my body refused!" Julian shot back. "She’s the most beautiful woman I’ve seen in my life. I was a bit nervous."
"Same..." Minos added with a nod.
Jane let out a sigh. "You two are hopeless, but... hmm? What’s up, Aster?"
His expression had caught their attention.
After all, ever since his sister’s name was brought up, he stared at them like a ghost.
"Where did you see her...? When?" Rael asked urgently.
"Earlier today? We saw her on our way out here to hunt monsters. She was heading toward a Shrine with her army," Jane explained calmly. "She controls an army of shadows... a literal army. There were thousands of them marching throughout the streets."
Rael’s gaze hardened.
"Which Shrine did she go to? Do you know?"
"Hmm... are you also a fan of hers?" Julian asked suspiciously. "I didn’t get that impression from you when we first met."
Rael remained silent as he waited for Julian’s answer.
"Alright... well, it’s a big Shrine from what I’ve heard. People tried clearing it in groups of 10 and 25, but because difficulty went up if there was more than 10 people... you get the idea," Julian added. "So in the end, she’s basically a one-person army."
In essence, she was considered one person even with all her shadow summons, so clearing it was actually possible.
"And as for its location? We have no clue. Though we could lead you to the survivor’s camp that’s under Melissa’s control," Julian added.
He then turned toward the corpse on the ground belonging to Timon.
"But let’s bury him first."
