Re-Awakening: I Became a Pay To Win Boss Monster-Chapter 299: The Shrine Trials
Chapter 299: The Shrine Trials
"So who wants to do the honors?" Todd asked, pointing to the statue.
"I believe there’s something more important to discuss before we begin," Rael said flatly. "What will the loot distribution be like?"
"Hm?" Todd tilted his head. "That’s a fair point. Would you prefer we base the rewards off contribution?"
"Sure, but how are we going to reward those who don’t contribute much?" Rael asked, pointing at the scribe, Timon. "Can he fight?"
Todd paused for a moment, falling into thought.
"I suppose not... so how about we go by contributions, and if the items don’t fit us, we give them to people who can use them?" Todd suggested. "You said your friend Minos is a summoner, right? This Shrine might drop a summoning-type skill or item, and since none of us aside from him can use it, then he can have it. Does that sound fair to you all?"
Everyone, including Rael, nodded.
It was fair.
Minos would get something even if he didn’t do well, and the same would apply to their other group member, Timon.
Minos... he didn’t really get any new puppets. Only a few rats, but they’re going to be very useless here.
He was sure Jane would be an asset because of her ice skills, and Julian would be the most valuable because he was a healer.
Since that issue had been solved, they were ready to start the Shrine Raid.
"I’ll do the honors," the blonde woman announced.
She was the archer of the group and went by the name Elizabeth.
She swiftly drew her bow, then fired a shot toward the statue.
Her mana-infused arrow struck the golden statue and shattered it effortlessly.
And that was when the ground suddenly shook.
The archways behind them expanded in size and slid backward, as if opening up an arena for them to fight in.
Moments later, a few pop-ups appeared.
<Shrine of the Undead – [10 Players] has been detected!>
<Rewards have been doubled!>
<Trial 1: Wave of Undead>
<Starting in: 60 seconds.>
Rael got to the front of the group, right beside Todd and Natasha.
The long-range fighters, such as Elizabeth and Jane, stood in the very back, preparing themselves.
And of course, there was also Minos and Timon, who stood by the sides.
Minos had summoned several rats and skeletons to protect him, and Timon held a thin rapier in a surprisingly perfect defensive stance.
Finally, Julian stood right behind the people on the front lines. Beside him were a man and a woman, both wielding daggers.
The minute soon passed, and once the timer hit 0, the ground shook again.
Bony arms began popping out of the ground as skeletons emerged.
In the distance, he saw several zombies rise from the ground, and even further, disfigured and rotten ghouls.
But he could immediately see that the bones of the undead were much sturdier than before.
Rather than see, it was more like an instinct.
So after the undead rose, the last few pop-ups appeared.
<Trial 1: Wave of Undead>
<Description: Eliminate as many Undead as you can within 10 minutes>
<Rewards will depend on the number of undead killed.>
A faint grin appeared on Rael’s face, and as he prepared to kick off, Todd did it before him.
Or he tried anyway, but instead, he slipped, falling face-first onto the dry ground.
"..."
Rael turned to Julian.
"Heal him so he doesn’t get brain damage or something. I’m off."
With those parting words, he dashed toward the skeletons, and with a swing of his silver claymore, he smashed the head of one in an instant.
-151! Critical Hit!
Hmm? Rael tilted his head, avoiding the lunge of a skeleton. No killing notification or experience points? Is it because this is a Shrine?
It seemed like his hopes of farming experience were shattered then and there.
Natasha appeared beside him, gracefully slicing the skeletons in two as she proceeded forward.
Rael did the same as he cleaved through every skeleton he could, finally arriving where the zombies were gathered.
That was when an arrow flew past him.
It pierced through the brains of four zombies before finally stopping.
But that was not all, as several shards of ice rained down from above, piercing tens of undead at once.
Rael even saw a rat walk up on two legs, trying to kill a skeleton.
Yet it was turned into paste the moment the skeleton stomped down.
Rat number... I forgot. Rest in pieces.
The fight went on like this for several minutes as Rael and Natasha matched each other’s pace.
But that was when he spotted a shadow above him.
Glancing up, he saw Todd flying in, holding his dual axes in hand as he smashed into the undead like a comet.
—BOOOOM!
Rael and Natasha were both swept off their feet.
Yet Natasha simply kicked off Rael’s shoulder toward another horde of undead.
This sly... Rael held back as he returned to killing the undead.
.
.
.
The 10 minutes were finally up as Rael finished killing the last six ghouls he could find.
<00:00>
<Ding!>
<Trial 1: Wave of Undead - Complete>
<Do you wish to display your name? Yes / No>
Hmm? No.
<Ding!>
<Kill Leaderboard updated!>
—Kill Leaderboard:
1. Blank: 212 Undead Kills
2. Natasha Caroline: 184 Undead Kills
3. Todd Nikon: 177 Undead Kills
4. Jane Venn: 142 Undead Kills
5. Elizabeth Victoria: 111 Undead Kills
<Currently Leading: Blank>
Rael hummed in satisfaction as he stretched his back.
"That was pretty fun."
"Agreed," Todd said with a smile. "Though... I might’ve gotten second if I didn’t faceplant onto the ground at the start."
Rael shrugged. "You win some, you lose some."
"Tsk..." Natasha clicked her tongue, looking at the leaderboard. "How did you get more kills than me? I swear we killed the same amount."
"Looks like you were wrong," Rael remarked. "But aside from that, get ready."
After all, the pop-up for the next trial finally appeared.
<Trial 2: Twin Undead>
<Description: Two Undead Generals will appear. To defeat them, you must kill both within 5 seconds of each other. If one is killed while the other survives past the time limit, the fallen general will revive and both will be fully healed.>
<Starting in: 120 seconds.>
"Well..." Rael scratched his cheek with a slight frown.
That’s a really fucking annoying mechanic.
