Chapter 48 - 48 This is the Opportunity You Didn't Want

Henry Thompson had no idea what was going on. Seeing Lily Turner slam the bathroom door, he assumed she was throwing a tantrum at him.

Furious, he took a large step forward, raising his hand to pound forcefully on the closed door. As he knocked, he shouted at the person inside, "Lily Turner! Do you have any idea what a state you're in right now? And you still dare to show me that attitude."

As he spoke, he increased the force of his hand.

Right now, Lily was feeling extremely uncomfortable all over. She wanted to reason with Henry, but at this moment, she didn't have any spare energy.

To better reduce her body temperature and to drown out the noise coming from outside, Lily turned the shower faucet to its maximum, allowing the cool water to cascade down from above. She pulled open her collar, letting the icy water flow inside.

The sound of rushing water filled the room!

All Henry could hear was the sound of water running; he couldn't hear anything else because of the closed door. Unable to see what was really happening inside, he clenched his fists and pounded on the door twice more, "Lily Turner! Don't say I didn't give you a chance; it's you who didn't want it."

If it weren't for the pressure from his own father, he wouldn't have given her this chance in the first place. He withdrew the investment to punish her for speaking recklessly; when he withdrew it, he hadn't intended to reinvest.

Once again, the rushing water was the only response to Henry. There was nothing else. This time, he lost the patience he had just a moment ago and kicked the bathroom door, "Lily Turner! You're the one who pushed things this far, so don't blame me for being merciless."

After speaking through gritted teeth to the person inside the bathroom, he turned angrily and slammed the door as he left.

BAM!

The loud slam echoed through the door into the bathroom.

Lily actually heard everything Henry had said just now; she just chose to ignore him. Hearing him slam the door and leave, she suddenly slumped onto the water-covered floor.

Why? Why did he have to treat her this way?

Not only did he betray her with her best friend, but he also conspired against her with the sister she trusted.

He had already broken her heart, and now he wanted to insult her further. How could he be so shameless and contemptible?

Thinking of what Henry, Jenny York, and Freya Yeager had done, Lily felt intense anger and sadness. Feeling terribly wronged, she shed tears.

In that moment, it was impossible to distinguish the shower water from her tears.

That night, Lily stayed in the bathroom for the entire night, sitting on the floor as the cool water washed over her. The unusual temperature in her body had completely subsided, but she was in a state of abnormal stupor.

Staring at the bathroom wall for a long time, she gradually snapped out of it, leaning against the wall with both hands as she slowly got up.

Having been soaked in cold water all night, she felt weak all over, her feet like they were treading on cotton, soft and wobbly. She walked along the wall, making her way out of the bathroom.

"Hiss! So cold!"

Just as she opened the door and stepped out, she felt a chilly breeze sweeping towards her. The cold wind snapped her out of her daze, and she quickly walked over to turn off the air conditioner blowing cold air.

As she was preparing to turn back to the bathroom for a hot shower, her phone, nestled in her bag, suddenly rang, and she instinctively turned her head in the direction of the ringtone.
