Chapter 9: Chapter 9: Costs and Sales Channels

"Here are your eleven ducklings. The seller in the city told me that they’re pure and their bloodline is guaranteed to reach the Spirited stage!"

"Thank you, here’s the rest of the payment." Fengyu gave the man five spirit stones after getting a small bag with quacking ducklings.

Hiring a carrier was easier than he thought, the price wasn’t high either. Pay half up front and half after the job was done.

"Five spirit stones per duckling, this price is quite high."

He knew the price of raising chicks in and out, and this purchase price was too high for it to be worth it –

Ten spirit stones monthly for the rent of the field, one spirit stone for a month’s worth of feed, one spirit stone for the pasture, two spirit stones for the health check and the three spells... after all these reductions, in the first month, he’d barely get anything!

"Fortunately, the carrier did everything in just three hours, allowing me to put these ducklings into action today. Losing a day would be a bad start to the month!"

Walking out with the ducklings, he didn’t spend any time in the village and directly went to the main street.

There, he didn’t cross the archway but walked along the road to his own field.

He crossed the fields of Ming and Ling but didn’t see them.

’They should be busy doing their own thing,’ he thought to himself, not bothering with it any longer.

After a short distance, he arrived at his rented field –

It was ten acres large, but nine acres were bare in the open, only one covered in a thin veil.

Throwing his token into the air, it directly caused the veil to open a path for him.

"Eh, at least they left behind three spirit stones for the formation. This way, even without anyone imprinting it."

While formations weren’t like weapons or tools, they still needed to be imprinted to function actively.

Without anyone imprinting and activating their functions, they’d be in a passive state, barely working.

In that case, using spirit stones can indeed delay the formation’s transition from active to passive.

Fengyu quickly entered the formation and saw that the pasture was a small overgrown forest, nothing unique.

At the edge of the forest, just a few metres into the formation, there was a hut between two large trees.

Creak

He opened the door. Inside, he saw a small dilapidated room.

There was a sleeping mat in the middle, a desk to the left, and a shelf on the right. On the shelf, there were a few tools, mostly those needed for farming. In addition, there was a small disk on the desk.

"The previous owner didn’t take care of this hut at all... but he left these items behind. They’re probably worthless to him, but for me, they can be useful!"

Before, he did everything with his hands, which was tedious. Now it should be easier!

"Quack, this room is good for me to sleep in!

But what about the new ducklings? Where will you place them?" Zimu jumped out of Fengyu’s arms and sat on the sleeping mat, looking innocently at Fengyu.

"You!" Fengyu was about to scold, but thinking of Zimu’s contributions, he stopped himself and nodded slightly.

"Indeed, I need to build a small shack for them to sleep in at night."

It would be quite difficult for him to work on the pasture undisturbed if he didn’t put them away in the morning and at night.

"Let’s first imprint this formation disk before we do anything else." He walked to the desk and put his hand on the disk, his spiritual power flowing along his fingers.

It didn’t take long before he felt a slight connection with the disk.

"Initial imprinting should be enough for now. I’ll imprint it fully when I’m done with today’s work."

He then turned around and considered the issue of the shack –

Looking at the shelf, he walked forward and took the wood-chopping axe.

"I’ll chop some wood and build the shack myself!" He trusted his own makeshift abilities and went out.

"Quack! I’ll come with you!" Zimu followed behind.

Fengyu came out and inspected the pasture more deeply this time.

It was indeed one acre large, which was quite big.

But while it was big, it was bare, uneven, and there were too many trees in this small area.

"At least the spiritual power here is equivalent to that of a low-grade first-stage spiritual vein! I wonder, this is just a corner of the real ten-acre field.

If I can rent the whole ten acres and employ the Spirit Gathering Formation, will I be able to push the spiritual power concentration to mid-grade?"

"Quack, that’s even higher than the one you rented before! And the rent here is cheaper too!

This city is a lot better than that town!" Zimu commented, smart as always.

"Isn’t it obvious this place is cheaper?

They say that each peak is controlled by a third-stage cultivator!

Looking at the peak, my guess is that there are at least five villages just on this side of the peak! Who knows, I might have seen it wrong. But even five is already a lot!

In addition, the owner is so many stages higher, will he care about a little bit of rent money?

Rather than that, it would be better to have more cultivators produce more items and sell them to him. Then he can resell those items in the city.

That way, the senior can boost his own business.

At least that’s what I’d do.

While we humans, unlike beasts, don’t become much smarter when we cultivate, we do gain wisdom and experience. I think with the same smarts but a lot more experience, the senior should’ve already found many ways to make money.

Money from rent isn’t even 10% of the money that can be generated by re-selling our items!"

Knowing business quite well, Fengyu wasn’t resentful of this method.

After all, sales channels have always been an issue small production lines couldn’t stably control.

Rather than finding people to sell to, where he’d have to consider many things, it’s better to just sell to one shop and occasionally set up a stall to gather a bit more money.
