Raising Ducks for Daily Rewards-Chapter 38: Flute
"Hey it’s Fengyu, and... you are?" the steward was about to call Fengyu in his usual address, but when he saw two juniors behind him, he didn’t do so and instead asked about them.
"Greetings steward, we are Ming and Ling, we rent the field right next to senior brother Fengyu. This is the first time we have come here, planning to sell spirit rice."
"The ones next to Fengyu, then you are the children of fellow daoist... well, let me go and see the rice!" the steward realised the situation and followed the children out, checking out their cart while glancing at Fengyu’s for a moment.
He inspected the rice and saw that it was Spirited Rice of rather high quality.
Looking at them, he didn’t expect they were at the third stage already and had quite a high talent in both cultivation and spirit planting.
After thinking about it, he offered them a generous price in hopes they would continue selling their rice to him.
Compared to Fengyu, these two had their citizenship already, inherited from their father. So naturally they weren’t bound to the general store as much as Fengyu was prior.
After dealing with them, he looked at the ducks and eggs in Fengyu’s cart, nodding with approval. The income had stabilised over the past few months.
"20 high-quality Spirited Ducks, priced at 10 stones per duck and an extra 6 stones. 180 high quality Spirited Eggs, priced at 1 spirit stone per 6 eggs, for a total of 30 spirit stones, and an additional 3 spirit stones for every 60 eggs. Finally 120 normal Spirited Eggs, 15 spirit stones.
This is for a total of 260 spirit stones. It’s a great pleasure to do business with you as always!"
Seeing the huge amount of spirit stones wandering into Fengyu’s bag, the twins were sure that this senior brother had great talent in beast taming or herding. Else, such income is basically more than half of what others do in a year!
Taking them, Fengyu smiled softly, knowing he had already saved quite a lot –
Over the past three years he’s saved over 1.960 spirit stones, including the 65 spirit stones he got additionally every three months for a silver-feathered Spiritual Duck.
Adding his savings of over 700 spirit stones from before, he now had 2.660 spirit stones.
It’s no surprise he felt so insecure about adding more Spiritual Ducks – the income was too great and without power, even in a safe village, one would have to fear the thoughts of others.
Fortunately the steward always cast a silencing spell around them when he calculated, to make sure no one else heard it. He also blocked the view for those behind him with his body.
So only the twins who were right next to him saw the income.
But after such a long time, he knew the character of these two and didn’t worry about them leaking anything.
They didn’t spend much longer at the place, just saying some pleasantries before leaving.
Fengyu saw that compared to when they interacted with him, both Ming and Ling were rather cold. He didn’t know whether this was the way they’d always been, or something they learned over the past year.
After watching them leave, he was about to turn to the trade fair, when the steward called him out.
"The thing you ordered last time, I was finally able to snatch something!"
"Really? Please, steward, show me this item!"
"Come with me, let’s go inside."
Fengyu followed the steward all the way to the inner room.
There, the steward went to his desk and took out a small wooden box.
Fengyu walked forward and waited for the steward to open it.
"A flute?" Fengyu asked curiously as he looked at the short 5 centimetre flute, with only three holes on top. It looked like a miniature flute.
"Indeed, a high-grade first-stage magic weapon! Even more so, it’s an auxiliary weapon, one of the rarest in the whole market!"
Fengyu agreed with the evaluation and didn’t care if the item was a flute, but rather about its abilities, "What can it do?"
"It’s engraved with three active spells and one large passive formation – any wood spell you use when holding this flute will be enhanced by 20%!
The key is these three holes –
They each represent a different tune that has its own effect.
The Tune of Protection – the first hole of three, when closing the other two, you activate this tune and create a wooden leaf barrier around yourself. Leaves will hover around you and actively take any harm that comes your way, the leaves in question can either be generated by the flute or added manually.
Tune of the Wild Spirit – the second hole, closing the other two, one can cast this. When casting this, it additionally strengthens your wood-type spells by another 30%! Together with the passive effect, this is a 50% enhancement.
Tune of the Concentrated Mind – the third hole and the most special. It’s a soul-type sound spell that increases concentration. Whether casting spells, comprehending or during cultivation, this spell is an all-rounder advantage.
In addition – you can use as many of these tunes at the same time as you want! Just be warned, the spiritual power consumption rises exponentially. Using two at the same time will cost as much as using one thrice, and all three at the same time is as much as using one six times!
The consumption is high but you should be able to understand the strength of such an item when used properly."
Fengyu looked at the item in shock – protection, extra spell enhancement and even a soul-type spell!
This combination was an overkill – "Steward, this weapon, it should be a top-grade weapon, right? I, I can’t afford such a weapon!"
He shook his head several times. Low – mid – high, the price would always triple. A low-grade weapon costing 100 would cost 300 in the mid grade and 900 in the high grade.
But top-grade is something else.
Only those extremely wealthy Qi Refining cultivators or those poor Foundation Building cultivators would use such a weapon, because their worth was too high! Their price starts at 5.000 spirit stones for offensive weapons, and auxiliary start at 10.000!
"Well, it seems young Fengyu has guessed it. Indeed, this weapon was supposed to be of the top-grade. The material is a top-grade soul-type bamboo, which is why the last spell was engraved.
Unfortunately, in the end, the refiner failed at making a fourth hole.
She said her skills were lacking, which is why she didn’t continue refining it at the risk of destroying the weapon. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
When she sold it, she made a promise that whoever got it could upgrade the weapon to the top-grade for an additional 5.000 spirit stones after 10 years.
Right, this weapon is priced at 7.000 spirit stones."
"Steward, this price, although high, seems reasonable! Especially with the soul-type spell!
Even a normal high-grade auxiliary weapon would cost around 4.000 to 5.000 spirit stones, just two thousand more, it doesn’t seem wrong at all."
Fengyu couldn’t understand why such a treasure wasn’t bought!
