Raising Ducks for Daily Rewards-Chapter 19: Birth of a Duckling
Back in his field, Fengyu fed his ducks and returned to the routine –
At the same time, he also observed the two Spiritual Ducks.
Would they do something?
He was truly curious, and when he was about to witness a romantic scene... Zimu pulled him away.
In the end he could only wait and see what the result would be.
As expected, the duck laid an egg, only a single egg.
It was very protective and wouldn’t allow him to approach at all!
The two Spiritual Ducks were close at all times, and Fengyu swore he saw some red hearts rising into the sky.
Several days followed and Fengyu saw several more eggs being laid.
Finally, a month passed and he saw ten eggs –
"The daily egg-laying rate was reduced from three to one third, but each of these eggs had a slight warmth and contained some life energy. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
It seems that because of their higher energy and power, these ducks are able to stably reproduce. Unfortunately, it stopped laying any eggs besides these larger.
Now the question is, should I upgrade another female duck?"
He looked at his ducks.
After several cycles of selling, he finally had two reproducing ducks, ten male and ten female.
"I will sell the male ducks, and in the future, I will try to grow these ducks laid by the Spiritual Ducks. The resulting duck should have a higher bloodline concentration... and if I’m lucky, I might even allow them to awaken!
In that case, the duck shouldn’t be a Wild Beast, right? After all that trouble, if it’s still a Wild Beast, then it would be wasted! Then again, selling their meat would be more profitable. Alas, I’ll just see."
Looking at the ducks, he had chosen the youngest female duckling that just joined the group, "Next month, after it reaches adulthood, I will directly upgrade it to a Spiritual Duck. Its lifespan will be the longest then."
He calculated a lot for a few gains, not without reason.
If he let go of his profits, then what would he have?
As a farmboy, he knew that you can’t be too emotional!
...
A month passed by very quickly.
Fengyu, the two Spiritual Ducks and Zimu all crouched in front of an egg.
Shaking and trembling, it seemed like something inside was about to break out.
Crack
Crack
Cracks sounded as chips of the egg were broken off –
Crack
Crack
Craaaack
A big chip fell off and a small head came out!
"Squeeaak" it made a weird sound.
"Hahaha! You two, Zimu, we did it! A newborn duckling!" Fengyu stood up, raising Zimu into the air.
On the other hand, the two parent ducks looked at their cute little duckling and quacked in encouragement.
It took some time, but the duckling finally came out.
Fengyu looked at it with a smile, patting it ever so slightly.
The two parent ducks allowed him to do so while watching from the side, thinking of Fengyu like family.
He caressed the duck for some time before looking at the parents, "You two take care of it well!"
Afterward, he went over the other duck eggs and saw that they would basically hatch one after another.
The latest egg was just laid and the next one would probably be laid in three days, which would coincide with the time the second egg hatched.
"According to this, one duck would hatch every three days, and after two or three months, the cycle will have formed.
By then, I will have three generations of ducks, the oldest being an adult for a month, the youngest being an adult for less than a day.
In that case, I should earn half a spirit stone or even a whole spirit stone more on average, since fatter ducks are worth a bit more."
While this is the case, Fengyu knew that in normal circumstances, he wouldn’t keep a duck for a whole month.
He might earn a spirit stone more, but raising a month-old duckling for another month would earn him two spirit stones, meanwhile, this extra month only gives him one more spirit stone.
The reward wasn’t proportional to the effort.
Fengyu looked at the little duckling from afar and shook his head, "I’ll know whether it’s a male or female in a week. By then, I can decide what to do with it.
A female duck... well, I can’t really sell them, since doing so would basically create competition. The male ducks can be sold easily."
He pondered for a moment before he took out his spell inheritance.
Was there anything left?
Checking it, he focused on the two herding spells he hadn’t learned yet: the Egg-Inducing Spell and Birth-Nourishing Spell.
He read the description of the former and it was just as he expected. Using it on female eggs could enhance the eggs they laid, but the enhancement in the Entry Stage would only be 10%. The spell page also said that per stage, the enhancement would become quite a lot and even doubling at the Perfection stage.
"This spell is quite useful, I should learn it some day." He thought about it and realised that he definitely wanted to use it, as it would bring many rewards. But it wasn’t the effect he looked for.
Checking out the other spell, it was quite simple. It was a spell that allowed for an easier birth in spirit beasts...
Unfortunately, it was unfit for raising ducks.
"This spell should be for raising mammal beasts, making the birth smoother and nourishing the abdomen of the female beast, ensuring the born beast would be of sufficient quality.
Although I could learn it, it seems like extra effort.
I can put it on the back of my learning list."
Sighing, he looked at the other spells and saw that none of them were what he looked for.
"Maybe I could buy it?"
He thought about it –
In the centre of the village, there were three buildings.
The village hall, the general store left to it and the mission hall to the right.
Most of the missions in the mission hall were carrier missions, which is why Fengyu didn’t think they could do more.
But since eggs could be transported, maybe spells could also be transported?
