Chapter 233: The Hidden Mountain

At the foot of the mountain, a team of experts set up their most advanced transponder.A red dot appeared briefly on the monitor of a tablet.

"They are in Janao Este." The young man with thick eyeglasses shouted excitedly.

Sofia frowned. "Are you sure? Janai Este is over 100 kilometers from here. The distance is too far away. How can they be there?"

"They did not travel by foot. Someone should have taken them for a ride."

"Your Majesty, you are here!" Everyone except for Sofia, prostrated themselves before the king. Sofia simply bowed and said "Greetings, Your Majesty. Why did you come out here?"

"I am bored. I want to look at things here." King Ralden said as he dismounted from his tall war horse. "Is it true that the tracker is in the location of Janai Este?" King Ralden asked as he directed his piercing gaze to the man with the thick eyeglasses.

"Yes, Your Majesty."

"Her target is the elusive animals. We have the white horses in that area. What I would like to know is how it is possible for her group to reach Janai Este in less than two hours?" King Ralden pondered.

"Download the images of this coordinate from our satellite. Just download the photos from 2 hours ago."

The IT expert’s finger flew over the tablet and typed a series of commands. Soon a few photos started showing on the tablet’s screen.

King Ralden reached out his hand. Sofia understood what he wanted to do so he grabbed the tablet from the IT expert and swiped through the newly downloaded photos. Sofia wanted to lean close to him to look at the photos but she restrained herself. The King was so serious she would definitely suffer a backlash if he was disturbed.

The corner of King Ralden’s lips curled up. "What a brilliant girl! No wonder they were able to reach the place in such a short time. She had enlisted the help of some animals."

"What do you mean, My King? Which animals helped her?" Sofia was confused. Other than a horse or a donkey, which animal would be capable of carrying a burden on its back and running very fast?

King Ralden handed her the tablet. Sofia’s eyes widened when she saw the photo. "How could those three lions become obedient and carry people on their backs?"

"That’s also a question I wanted to have answers, My Dear!" King Ralden held a handful of her strands of hair that fell to cover her face. He tucked those behind her ears.

Sofia blushed.

"I will find out her secret Your Majesty." Sofia seemed to make a promise to King Ralden, but the promise was actually for her.

King Ralden smiled at her dotingly. When Sofia saw his smile, her resolve to fight against Amaya grew.

...

Back at Janai Este, the three prepared to set off after they had eaten a light snack. They also refilled their water bottle.

The horses were faster than the lion. They reached Janai Centro in thirty minutes. Standing on the peak of Janai Centro, Amaya looked up and tried to discern what could be in Mount Paraiso. Unfortunately, the fog is too thick.

"Isn’t it strange? How come Mount Paraiso is covered in a thick fog from the middle part of the mountain?"

Marx understood Amaya’s question. They were standing at the peak of Janai Centro yet there was no fog. However, for Mount Paraiso at the same level, the fog was very thick which resulted in hiding the mountain behind and only revealing a silhouette.

Marx eyed the mountain warily. He looked at Amaya with a serious expression.

"That mountain looks dangerous. I don’t think it is a good idea to go to that place with just the three of us and we only had very limited weapons."

"Do you think so?" Amaya was facing the mountain. "Are you not up for a challenge? We might not get another chance."

Marx sighed. He was trying to think of a way to knock reason into Amaya’s head.

A howl was heard from the other side of the mountain. Without any warning, Apollo neighed and ran down the steep slope of Janai Centro. His direction was toward Mount Paraison. No matter how hard Marx pulled on the rope at the horse’s neck, Apollo continued to run.

Of course, Artemis followed suit and the brown horse of Vasquez followed them.

"What’s happening, Marx? I thought you didn’t want to go there. Why did you let Apollo run like the wind?"

Amaya shouted as loud as she could.

Marx looked wronged. "I did not! He ran by himself." Marx said in a loud voice. He looked back and noted that Amaya and Vasques were following him.

"It is like this animal is being controlled or called by something," Marx explained.

Apollo continued to run. He seemed to know the path very well. He was able to avoid the dense vegetation.

Marx attempted to stop the horse again. He pulled on the string so hard that the horse almost choked. Apollo neighed loudly. Marx relaxed the rope and the horse continued forward.

When they arrive at the foot of Mount Paraiso, Marx has an eerie feeling.

"Amaya, maybe we should stop here and go back. I don’t like this mountain. There is something eerie about it but I can’t place my finger on it." Marx explained incoherently. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

"Are you nervous, Marx? I have never seen you so flustered before."

"I am not nervous, Amaya Rocas. I am just worried about you."

Amaya was convinced that Marx was indeed nervous. Otherwise, why would he call her using her full name?

"Since we are already here and we have already wasted enough time, why don’t we continue and take a look?"

The horses seemed to understand what Amaya said. They took it on their own and pranced toward Mount Paraiso.

"Maybe, these horses are not actually wild but they are owned by someone. And their owner is in that mountain." Vasquez shared his thoughts that made sense.
