Quick Transmigration: The Mad Beauty Refuses to Be the Scapegoat!-Chapter 63: The Cannon Fodder Sister of the Female Lead (Part 15)
"Not even a single ’thank you’."
Little Buding muttered a phrase.
"Such a bad attitude, still thinking of going to college."
——
On Friday afternoon after school, when Jiang Lai arrived at the bike shed, Jiang Qu was already waiting with her bicycle.
"Jiang Lai, it seems like there’s a misunderstanding between us. Let’s talk about it on the way home."
Jiang Lai didn’t dare to ride on her bike now; without a bike, she’d rather walk back.
"Misunderstanding? What misunderstanding? Are you talking about you slandering me, or the last time you forgot I can’t ride a bike?"
Jiang Qu increasingly felt that Jiang Lai was being unreasonable and aggressive; she had already softened several times, but Jiang Lai continued to bully her relentlessly.
"Jiang Lai, do you have to be like this? We’re sisters."
"Doesn’t your face turn even a little red when you say that?"
Jiang Qu gritted her teeth, her voice low but still powerful.
"If you’re also blaming me for what happened in middle school, what more can I say? I gave you books to help improve your Chinese score; who would have thought you’d get addicted? Jiang Lai, stop blaming others for your own failures."
Jiang Lai laughed, looking around before turning back to her.
"Yeah, I just love finding faults with others, so you’d better not provoke me next time. You don’t want to embarrass yourself again before the college entrance exams, do you?"
Jiang Qu was furious and seemed to suddenly think of something, staring at Jiang Lai she asked.
"Was it you who reported me about the books?"
"What are you saying? I don’t understand."
"Don’t play dumb. Who else would know about this besides you? Jiang Lai, you’re really cruel, trying to push me into a dead end!"
Jiang Lai looked innocent.
"Why would I report you? We are sisters, after all."
"Jiang Lai, you’re despicable!"
With that, Jiang Qu dropped her bike and turned to leave, leaving Jiang Lai to face the unmanageable large bike all by herself.
Forget it, I’ll just leave it at school, better than pushing it home.
Passing by the bike shed, Jiang Lai noticed Cheng Lie walking his bike into a back alley, so she picked up her bag and followed him.
This alley was a bit secluded, and when Jiang Lai poked her head in, she saw Cheng Lie counting money, standing opposite a man with a green military hat, who had a cigarette hanging from his lips and was grinning mischievously saying something.
Suddenly noticing Jiang Lai in the corner, the man threw his cigarette and shouted.
"Who’s there?! Get lost!"
Cheng Lie noticed her face and patted the man’s shoulder, explaining.
"It’s okay, she’s my sister."
"You have a sister? All right then, little sister, come over here, let me give you some money to buy candy."
Jiang Lai, with her schoolbag, walked over, directly standing beside Cheng Lie. The strong height difference made her young face look even more childlike.
"Which grade are you in?"
"First year of high school."
"First year?"
Jiang Lai smiled innocently and sweetly.
"Yeah, I’m in the same school and class as my brother. He’s so dumb, he got held back to my class."
"Hahaha, A Lie, this is the first time I’ve heard someone call you dumb! But seriously, making all that money, what for? These days, everyone’s into college students!"
Cheng Lie glanced at him, stuffed the money into his pocket, and then pulled Jiang Lai’s backpack, leading her out.
The man quickly searched his pocket, found no change, and directly pulled a ten-yuan bill from a pile to give to Jiang Lai.
"Here, buy yourself some clothes."
Jiang Lai’s eyes lit up; since coming to this world, it was the first time she’d seen such a large sum. Her family usually only gave her one or two dimes as pocket money, rarely even a whole yuan.
She glanced at Cheng Lie, who smiled faintly.
"Take it."
"Okay, thank you, big brother!"
The man chuckled, then said bye and rode away on his bike.
Jiang Lai gripped the bill and came to the wall, whispered to Cheng Lie.
"Thanks to you, how about we split this money fifty-fifty?"
Cheng Lie just looked at her, smiling without saying a word.
Jiang Lai swallowed, reluctantly continuing to bargain.
"Alright, alright, you take six, I’ll take four, is that okay?"
Cheng Lie still smiled, his smile bright and clean, showing white teeth.
"Can’t I at least get three?"
"It’s for you, take it all, I don’t need it."
"Why didn’t you say so earlier."
Jiang Lai immediately put the money into the inner pocket of her jacket, fastened the red button, slung the gray backpack over her shoulder, and looked up at Cheng Lie.
"Are you going home?"
Cheng Lie glanced at the mostly empty bike shed behind her, as most of the people from the school had left, so he nodded.
"Yeah, going back."
"Then take me along, big brother."
That one word "brother," so soft and sweet, accompanied by her fair and clean little face, made Cheng Lie’s heart tremble, enough to make him sweat in the chilly autumn breeze.
He pulled out a hair tie from his pocket, skillfully gathered his hair to the back and tied it in a ponytail, revealing his entire face, then mounted the bike and gave Jiang Lai a slight smile.
"Hop on."
This smile, red lips and white teeth, with prominent white forehead, thick eyebrows, and big bright eyes, a high and narrow nose, and a delicate, smooth face shape.
Unexpectedly, this guy who slept in class and skipped out to the bathroom turned out to be the cool dude rocking a tiny ponytail after school, along with that expensive-looking denim jacket, leaving Jiang Lai, the country girl, speechless for a long while.
"Wow, are you a DJ at a disco?"
After Jiang Lai climbed onto the bike’s back seat, she held onto the hem of his coat.
As the bike shot forward quickly, Cheng Lie laughed.
"That’s a good idea, I’ll consider it after I graduate high school."
"Better not, I don’t think discos hire anyone over thirty."
Cheng Lie laughed heartily, Jiang Lai’s jests seemed to have no effect on him at all.
On the way, Jiang Lai asked him.
"Aren’t you tired?"
They’d been biking for over three hours.
But Cheng Lie shook his head.
"Not tired, you’re not that heavy."
Handsome, articulate, and seems well-off, where could you find another classmate like this?
This time Cheng Lie took her to the old locust tree at the entrance of the village, and as a token of thanks, Jiang Lai gave him her last egg.
"Eat it on your way back."
Cheng Lie didn’t refuse, tucked the egg away, and rode off, his tall figure quickly vanishing at the end of the path.
It wasn’t until late at night that Jiang Qu still hadn’t come back.
Her family asked Jiang Lai.
"I don’t know. She left after giving me the bike. I can’t ride it, so I took a classmate’s bike back."
"Where could that child be? It’s so late, so worrying."
At this moment, Little Buding informed Jiang Lai that Jiang Qu was with He Xing, and they had watched a movie and had dinner together. Now they were riding back on He Xing’s motorcycle.
