Quick Transmigration: The Mad Beauty Refuses to Be the Scapegoat!-Chapter 370 - 20: This Fish Pond’s Cannon Fodder Is Contracted (Part 20)
"There, and also your kind, I know."
"My kind won’t spare you!"
Amidst the screams of horror from the crowd, Jiang Lai turned his head and saw a fully grown male mermaid leaping directly out of the sea, charging towards him on the deck.
"Jiang Lai, watch out!!"
Zhou Wenjin shouted a warning and rushed forward, but he couldn’t match the speed of the mermaid launching himself. In his hand, the mermaid held a bone spike aiming straight for Jiang Lai’s forehead.
Just as everyone thought Jiang Lai was doomed, a sharp wail suddenly erupted on the deck. The charging mermaid’s eyes widened instantly; his tail instinctively jerked backward, causing his massive body to crash heavily onto the deck beside Jiang Lai.
He flipped over and stood up, looking at Jiang Lai. There stood a vertically upright glass tank containing a recently matured male mermaid, a fellow of his kind and also an unbeatable mermaid prince.
The heart-stopping scene unexpectedly ended with the mermaid voluntarily giving up.
Jiang Lai quietly put away the dagger he had prepared in advance and glanced back at the mermaid confined in the tank.
The mermaid was silently watching him, his deep blue eyes filled with concern and fear.
It seemed like he was worried Jiang Lai might get hurt.
Meanwhile, the mermaid that had landed on the deck was fully armed, looking at the humans on the deck with wary fear, his gaze constantly shifting to the little mermaid behind Jiang Lai.
"Don’t capture him, let him go."
After casting one last glance at the little mermaid, the mermaid let out a whimper and dove back into the sea.
Everyone was stunned. What just happened? It seemed like the relationship between Director Jiang and the mermaids wasn’t simply adversarial.
"Head back."
"Director, should we tow the boat back directly?"
"Yes."
On the way back, the rain inexplicably stopped, and a mist rose over the sea, making the small island in the middle appear lonely.
Zhou Wenjin looked at the little mermaid in the tank behind Jiang Lai.
"Is this the result of your socialization training? I’m guessing he just saved you, right?"
"Yes."
"Not bad, really not bad. The socialization training seems to be working well. Can all these mermaids be trained?"
Jiang Lai shook his head as he looked on.
"Of course not. Only the immature, those not fully developed mentally, perhaps. And this current mermaid’s social training is not yet complete."
"Then would he forsake such a good opportunity to save you?"
Technically, the mermaids should hate Jiang Lai profoundly.
Jiang Lai pondered for a moment before shaking his head again.
"I don’t know. Perhaps he knew that mermaid couldn’t kill me."
Jiang Lai’s combat skills are formidable, and she understands mermaids better than anyone. Even without the little mermaid’s help, Jiang Lai wouldn’t have died, at most she would get injured, but that mermaid would definitely die.
For now, these questions have no answers. Suddenly, there are more than a dozen mermaids on the island. After settling them down, Jiang Lai finally came out to see off Zhou Wenjin.
He still had things to do since this island project was just one of his many investments.
"Today’s sea fishing truly opened my eyes, Director Jiang. Initially, I hesitated on how much to invest for the next quarter. Now, I have no doubts."
Eighty million directly transferred into the account.
"Thank you, Mr. Zhou, for your trust."
"I’m just in it for the profit. The previous offshore resort I invested in had its staff mysteriously disappear. If you hadn’t volunteered to help, I’d probably have lost over a billion. Today’s incident is nothing. I hope Director Jiang stays safe, and I’ll visit again soon."
"Yes, Mr. Zhou, feel free to come anytime."
Zhou Wenjin left, taking a mermaid bone spike as a memento with him.
He also added Jiang Lai’s social contact information, though Jiang Lai rarely used it, and his social profile was empty.
When Jiang Lai was saving the contact, he saw Zhou Wenjin’s social page, where the first post was a man’s workout log. Uninterested, Jiang Lai saved the contact and tossed the phone aside.
Security personnel came over to report.
"Upon searching the boat earlier, there was only one person on board; the rest were likely mermaids...who took them away."
Mermaids are genuinely carnivorous creatures, loving fresh meat, and research shows that they particularly enjoy consuming humans. Their attempts to invade human territory are mostly due to considering humans as their primary food source.
Their chances of survival for those dragged away are nil.
Jiang Lai already has extensive experience handling the aftermath concerning these individuals.
"Report the list of victims."
There are designated individuals to take care of these matters.
The only surviving person, Jiang Lai knows without thinking, is Ren Yan.
In the reception room, Ren Yan sat hunched in a corner, draped in a coat, dripping wet, her head hung low in silence.
Noticing Jiang Lai entering, she slowly raised her head, her eyes red, her gaze harboring more hatred than even the mermaids. One would think Jiang Lai had murdered her entire family.
"Jiang Lai, you’re inhuman! Are you happy now that you’ve swept away all the mermaids?"
Jiang Lai stood with his hands in his pockets, looking at her with calm eyes beneath his glasses.
"Hand over the gun."
Ren Yan’s eyes widened, pretending not to understand.
Jiang Lai stepped forward, his tone cold. "I don’t want to say it a third time, hand over the gun, the one stolen from security."
Ren Yan let out a scream, then pulled out a gun from her bosom and aimed it at Jiang Lai.
"Don’t push me! Stop pushing me!"
Behind, security instinctively moved to protect Jiang Lai, but he waved them away, moving towards Ren Yan with steady steps.
"You used the gun to force the boat into the mermaid group, bent on tipping them off without considering the others on board. I’m sure you saw the way they were dragged underwater, screaming as they met their grisly fates. They weren’t drowned; they were bitten to death because mermaids don’t like eating dead bodies, their preference is for living flesh.
Ren Yan, you are the inhuman one. You’ve seen mermaids eat people, yet still can say such things. It seems you are beyond saving."
As he finished speaking, Jiang Lai took advantage of Ren Yan’s distracted moment to reach her, swiftly kicking the gun from her hand. Before Ren Yan could react, he grabbed her arm and slapped her hard.
The slap was heavy, her cheek swelling, blood trickling from her mouth.
"Since you’re so eager to join the mermaids, I’ll fulfill your wish."
With that, Jiang Lai gestured.
"Lock her up with the mermaids."
