Chapter 290: Chapter 28: The Disabled Tycoon’s Ex-Wife Refuses to Be a Scapegoat (28)

Putting down her phone, Jiang Ruantian smiled as she raised her hand to look at the watch on her wrist, the image of Tao Xinzhu smiling at her in the restaurant constantly appearing before her eyes.

He was just like the prince charming she had imagined countless times as a child: gentle, handsome, wealthy, and intelligent.

In comparison, Mo Zhoujing not only had an incomplete body, but more importantly, he wore a perpetual cold expression, never showing her any kindness, and he was ten years older than her.

If material concerns are set aside, Tao Xinzhu was much better than Mo Zhoujing.

However, now was not the time to discuss matters of the heart. She needed to avenge the self of her dreams, completely break away from this cold family, and seize control over her fate.

Jiang Ruantian no longer thought of Tao Xinzhu, focusing wholeheartedly on the acting career that she had acquired with great difficulty.

Not long ago, she had taken a supporting female lead role that was about to start filming. Soon she would join the filming crew, and once the show aired, paired with the buzz from appearing on variety shows, she believed that she could quickly make a name for herself in the entertainment industry. At that point, asking her parents for Jiang Media would certainly be much easier.

Before long, Jiang Ruantian packed her things and took the driver’s car to the set. Upon arriving, she got to know and familiarize herself with the male and female leads.

Bai Qiao had already known about the relationship between Jiang Ruantian and Jiang Lai, so her attitude was very enthusiastic. Even though she was the leading actress, whether it was before filming when taking pictures or trying on costumes, she always let Jiang Ruantian take precedence.

A small part of the crew already knew about Jiang Ruantian’s identity, and they were quite courteous to this newcomer who had never appeared on the big screen.

Jiang Ruantian understood that she was a newcomer, always treating others with respect and courtesy. Having just started in the acting industry, due to lack of experience, she repeatedly had NG takes, with the director patiently having the whole crew reset the scene and reshoot each time.

This was a scene between the first and second female leads, requiring the second lead to kneel on the ground to report the progress of the mission to the first lead. Due to the studio temperature soaring to forty degrees, Bai Qiao, who was seated, was already drenched in sweat, with much of her makeup melted away.

During a makeup touch-up break, her assistant quickly brought water to Bai Qiao and fanned her while speaking quietly.

"This is going to go until nighttime; this one scene has already had over ten NG takes, and the air conditioning is just blowing on her, without considering us at all."

Bai Qiao glared at her.

"Say less of what you shouldn’t say."

"I know, but the director is just too unfair, with just one air conditioning outlet blowing on her and disregarding others."

Indeed, Bai Qiao was somewhat overwhelmed, tired on one hand, but it was mainly the heat, quite unlike being directly under the sun; it felt as if she was at the top layer of a steaming basket, with heat roasting her from all directions, leaving her almost breathless.

Jiang Ruantian was dressed in the worn-out attire of the second lead, so it was relatively cool, but it was different for her, wearing the leading actress’s exquisite and heavy costume, complete with headpieces weighing over ten pounds, almost suffocating her.

On the other side, Jiang Ruantian promptly discussed the earlier performance with the director, leaving Bai Qiao without a chance to speak, resorting to blowing some air from the air conditioner nearby; hardly recovering before hearing the director call out.

"Let’s do it once more, stay focused! Learn from Ruantian, pursue excellence just like her!"

Bai Qiao took a deep breath, returned to her seat, and tried to adjust her breathing to get into character again, when suddenly a commotion arose from below.

"Ah, Teacher Jiang fainted!"

Bai Qiao looked down quickly, indeed seeing Jiang Ruantian, who had wanted to redo the scene, now pale and seated on the ground. Several assistants gathered around, and the director, alarmed, hurriedly instructed them to take her to the hospital.

Watching the noisy chaos over there, Bai Qiao finally breathed a sigh of relief internally.

No matter what, at least she could finally rest.

Luckily that heiress also had the body of a spoiled young lady; otherwise, if she kept demanding retakes, how could others endure?

At last able to go back and rest, Bai Qiao had just finished washing when her assistant handed her the phone.

"Sister Bai, look, though she’s not popular, she got on the trending list real fast; now the whole net wants to know we have a dedicated heiress in our crew."

Bai Qiao frowned.

"Why is she so different from her sister?"

She talks about dedication and respect for the crew, but having six or seven assistants at her beck and call doesn’t seem too dedicated.

The main thing was, because she was sick, the director already informed that tomorrow’s scenes would all be done by a stunt double; these weren’t difficult scenes, and a double was already arranged, how could Jiang Ruantian not know?

The next day, as they reshot yesterday’s scene, sure enough, the person kneeling in front of her was a stunt double with a similar silhouette and side profile to Jiang Ruantian. Everyone present exchanged glances, having no choice but Bai Qiao continued acting, with most of the shots being on her.

By the afternoon, during the hottest time in the studio, Bai Qiao had already spent four continuous hours dressed in heavy costume, sitting motionless while waiting for the double to finish shooting all angles of the scene.

Finally, when the double’s part was nearly done, Bai Qiao got up to leave, only to see Jiang Ruantian being escorted in as she stepped out of the studio.

She had a cooling patch on her forehead, surrounded by assistants holding small fans, and holding an iced coffee, discussing something with the director as she walked in.

The director spotted Bai Qiao and waved her over.

"Why are you coming out? Yesterday’s scene isn’t finished yet."

"Didn’t we just reshoot it?"

"What was just shot doesn’t count, Ruantian feels better and wants to do it herself, so let’s go back and redo yesterday’s stuff once more."

Bai Qiao clutched her fists under her sleeves.

She stared at Jiang Ruantian, trying hard to control her emotions, and asked with a smile.

"The crew has been sitting in there for four to five hours straight; why not film the scenes outside the studio first, give everyone a breather?"

Jiang Ruantian looked at her, her face showing impatience.

"Isn’t acting our job? Earning so much money and enduring such hardships amounts to what? If Teacher Bai is tired, why not let the stunt double take over a bit?"

Bai Qiao couldn’t help but laugh out of anger.

"Teacher Jiang, perhaps you didn’t know, but today your scenes have already been shot by the stunt double; you’ll just need to shoot a few close-ups on your own, it’s not much different."

Jiang Ruantian frowned at Bai Qiao, not expecting her to subtly mock her for using a stunt double; as fellow newcomers, how could she act like a senior toward her?

"I’ve never said I’m using a stunt double; maybe you’re used to it, but I still think acting should be done personally."
