Quick Transmigration: The Mad Beauty Refuses to Be the Scapegoat!-Chapter 162 - 34: The Drama Queen Sister Refuses to Be Cannon Fodder
"Of course, the sooner it’s developed, the sooner it benefits humanity. If so, you’d be the savior, and human history would be rewritten, with you on the first page of textbooks!"
"I’m not interested in rewriting history."
Lin Yan was quite lazy. If it weren’t for Jiang Lai constantly nagging him, he would spend half his day sleeping.
He’d even sleep in the morning, and no one dared to wake him up. Not even Jiang Lai, because he had a nasty temper when he woke up, bringing the entire lab’s morale down every morning until he got up at nine-thirty. The few medical doctors helping out didn’t dare to make a sound.
This mood lasted until around eleven-thirty when it slightly improved because Jiang Lai would show up on time to deliver an apple, and after eating it, they’d have lunch together.
His routine was very regular; Lin Yan was like a grindstone, pushed forward by Jiang Lai.
"It’s still the same: the world has to return to normal for us to have good days."
"Aren’t you doing well now?"
"Could be better. Alright, stop talking and eat, then head to the lab in the afternoon."
The tone was like that of urging a dawdling son to eat up and go to school.
Lin Yan glanced at her and finally uttered.
"Are you this strict with your ex-boyfriend too?"
"I’m only this strict with you."
"Hmm."
Lin Yan listened and silently lowered his head to eat, while Jiang Lai picked out the fish bones for him and also served him a bowl of soup.
——
The room next to the suite had been vacant for a while, and today someone moved in. When Lin Yan returned from the lab in the evening, he saw that its door was open, with light and the aroma of food wafting out.
Just as he was about to open his door, he heard a noise of something collapsing beside him, followed by a woman wearing a hat coming out with a spatula in hand, calling out to Lin Yan.
"Hello, are you Dr. Lin? Could you do me a favor and watch over the pot for a bit while I clean up the mess; otherwise, the stew might get burnt."
Lin Yan listened to her long request and expressionlessly replied.
"No time."
Who is this?
Do I know you?
That’s exactly what Lin Yan’s face conveyed.
Gu Han Yan paused, quickly calming her emotions and smiling.
"No problem, carry on with your work. I was going to show you a rare sample I found, but looks like it’ll have to wait until I visit the lab tomorrow."
"Rare sample?"
Lin Yan turned to look at her.
"What kind of sample?"
"A mutated plant sample. I only got a piece of it. Do you want to see it now?"
Lin Yan shook his head.
"Bring it to my lab tomorrow."
He then turned away, pushed open his door, and went inside without another word.
Gu Han Yan watched him, a hint of satisfaction in her eyes.
It’s good enough to have spoken to him. Lin Yan is inherently cold; there’s no hope of becoming friends, but at least not enemies.
The world still needs him to save it.
Through her recent conversation with Andre, she learned that Lin Yan was probably Doctor D, who disappeared suddenly before the apocalypse. He was adept at disguise, now posing as Lin Yan.
Previously, when she saw him on the team, she already sensed he was unusual. Fortunately, Gu Han Yan thought, she hadn’t had any previous conflicts with him.
Next, she needed to interact well with him, and preferably find out why he abandoned his identity as Doctor D to disguise as a regular little doctor in their team.
The next morning, Gu Han Yan went directly to the lab and was met by Jiang Lai at the entrance.
Old enemies meeting again, Jiang Lai seemed not to recognize her, merely glanced and walked past, while Gu Han Yan clenched her fists tightly, suppressing the urge to tear Jiang Lai apart as she continued walking.
As she simmered in her anger, a sneering laugh suddenly came from behind.
The laugh was so familiar that she immediately turned around, staring intensely at Jiang Lai.
Jiang Lai indeed was smiling at her, smugly.
"You wouldn’t happen to be Gu Han Yan, would you?"
Gu Han Yan silently looked at her, the fists under her sleeves already clenched tight, her eyes beneath the brim of her hat filled with a deadly menace.
"Not speaking means you admit it. What a coincidence meeting you here."
"Indeed, what a coincidence."
Gu Han Yan hadn’t intended to deal with Jiang Lai right now, but since Jiang Lai had conveniently jumped into her aim, she might as well oblige.
"What are you staring at? Are you still planning on taking revenge on me? Gu Han Yan, look at your current state and think about your abilities. What? Still eager to suffer?"
Gu Han Yan raised her head to look at her, eyes like a cold venomous snake gradually wrapping around Jiang Lai.
"Laugh all you want, keep laughing. Let’s see how long you can keep it up!"
Hearing this, Jiang Lai exaggeratedly patted her chest.
"Oh, I’m so scared. Previously defeated, are you threatening me now? What should I do? Hide my face like you and cry in the dark?"
This statement directly hit Gu Han Yan’s fragile nerve, and her hand under the sleeve silently transformed into intertwined vines, ready to burst like a beast breaking free, while Jiang Lai noticed and slowly smirked, continuing her arrogant provocation.
"Why silent? Speak up! Weren’t you formidable before? Now, as an ugly freak, you can’t even speak? Honestly, if it were me, forget stepping out, I wouldn’t even live! Truly shameless, you are."
"Death Value: +200."
Jiang Lai’s shrill voice created an image of a lively, stupid female villain, provoking the protagonist to an unbearable point of eruption.
A thorned vine swelled and lashed towards Jiang Lai’s face.
Just a twig. Jiang Lai was about to catch it when suddenly it morphed into a brightly colored venomous snake at the tip! It darted its tongue and bit onto Jiang Lai’s hand.
"Death Value: +177."
Pain shot through her. Jiang Lai gripped the snake’s tongue fiercely, then tore the vine apart, dropping it onto the ground where it continued to writhe like a fish.
Jiang Lai glanced at her own hand, the wound darkening, and looked at Gu Han Yan, who wore a triumphant smile across her lips.
"Didn’t you like to talk? Keep talking."
"Gu Han Yan, have you forgotten where your scars came from?"
Saying so, Gu Han Yan was jolted, and in the next instant, a sharp pain flared in her hand. Looking at it, she found the same bite wound appearing on her own hand!
"Jiang Lai!! You’re so devious!!"
Jiang Lai raised an eyebrow, shaking her hand.
"This skill only targets those who strike first. Think about it; if you didn’t intend to harm others, how would you end up hurt? You really are an idiot, got any brains left, or did the zombies eat them?"
Gu Han Yan grit her teeth, her face under the hat growing more ferocious with interlaced scars turning purple, making her appear even more terrifyingly ugly.
