QT: The Rescue Of The Miserable Bigshots-Chapter 241 - 8.28
Chapter 241: 8.28
"Master!"
Master Fu was standing among a group of guests, engaged in polite conversation, when he saw his butler, Old Chen, hurrying over in a panic. Pushing through the crowd, he reached Master Fu’s side, visibly anxious.
Master Fu frowned. Old Chen had been with him for years and rarely lost composure. "What’s wrong? Why are you so flustered? Can’t you see there are guests here?"
Old Chen’s throat tightened. He glanced nervously at the surrounding guests, clearly hesitant to speak. His eyes were filled with anxiety.
Master Fu wasn’t slow to catch on. Seeing the look on Old Chen’s face, he immediately knew something had happened. He turned to the guests and smiled politely, "Forgive me, I have a personal matter to attend to. Please make yourselves comfortable."
Anyone who could approach Mr. Fu like this wasn’t a fool. Seeing the situation, they quickly responded with smiles, "Of course, we won’t keep you."
They politely backed away.
Master Fu signaled to Old Chen, then turned and walked toward a side corridor.
Not far away, Fu Xiaoyuan, who had been paying close attention after Fu Yanchen’s cryptic remarks, saw Mr. Fu’s reaction and grew more certain that something was amiss. Unable to resist, he quietly slipped through the crowd and followed behind.
In a corner of the hall, Fu Yanchen watched everything with a calm, unreadable expression. The corners of his lips lifted slightly as he picked up his wine glass and took a leisurely sip.
As if everything had nothing to do with him.
"It seems your birthday present is arriving early." Jiang Jiamian said, sitting beside him with his chin propped on his hand, clearly enjoying the show.
Fu Yanchen put down his glass slowly. "Well, is there any son more sincere than me?"
As soon as they stepped into the corridor, Master Fu closed the door behind them.
He and Old Chen were now alone, but Fu Xiaoyuan, who had followed them, was secretly eavesdropping. The butler, long used to dealing with treacherous situations, hadn’t realized someone was hiding behind the door.
Old Chen stepped forward, still anxious, and lowered his voice. "Master, it’s the Third Young Master! The hospital just called. He got into a car accident on his way here. He’s in the hospital now!"
The Third Young Master!?
Behind the door, Fu Xiaoyuan stiffened. His hands clenched into tight fists.
He knew his father all too well.
There were other illegitimate children in the family. But they only became ’young masters’ when Mr. Fu chose to publicly acknowledge them. Just like how, three years ago, Old Chen had only started calling him Second Young Master after Mr. Fu brought him into the Fu family.
And now... There was going to be a Third Young Master?
"What? A car accident?"
Mr. Fu’s face tensed slightly at those words. To him, they rarely meant an actual accident, they usually meant sabotage.
But after years of navigating treacherous power struggles, he quickly calmed himself. No guilt or hesitation showed on his face.
After the initial surprise, he asked calmly, "Is the injury serious?"
Who could it be?
Fu Xiaoyuan or Fu Yanchen?
Mr. Fu had only informed his new son privately. Neither of his current sons knew.
And now, on the way to the party, the boy had an ’accident’.
Could it really be a coincidence?
No. He didn’t believe in coincidences.
"Not too serious." Old Chen replied. "The hospital said he has two broken ribs. He’ll need to rest, but that’s all."
Mr. Fu’s earlier certainty wavered.
The attack had been too mild to be from Fu Yanchen, he didn’t do things halfway. And Fu Xiaoyuan lacked the guts for something like this.
Could it really have been an accident?
"I see. Then let’s wait until he recovers before bringing him into the Fu family."
Mr. Fu seemed to set the matter aside.
Ding!
Just as he turned to leave the corridor, his phone chimed with a notification.
He unlocked it instinctively.
His face darkened.
His jaw clenched.
His hand trembled faintly.
"Master? What is it?" Old Chen noticed immediately and stepped forward, startled.
Bang!
Mr. Fu suddenly hurled his phone against the wall. The screen shattered with a loud crack, with fragments scattering across the floor!
His entire body was shaking with rage. He staggered slightly.
Startled, Old Chen rushed to steady him. "Master! Are you alright?"
Behind the door, Fu Xiaoyuan flinched. For a second, he thought he’d been discovered. But no, Mr. Fu didn’t know he was there.
Still, the outburst was enough to awaken long-buried fear in him.
He didn’t dare stay.
He also had a sudden wave of dizziness.
Was it just panic?
No, something felt... off.
But he didn’t think too hard. He stepped away from the door unsteadily.
From across the hall, Tang Tang spotted him returning. He had been watching but hadn’t dared interrupt. Now, seeing Fu Xiaoyuan’s pale face, he quickly approached and whispered, "Brother Fu, are you alright? You don’t look so good."
Fu Xiaoyuan shook his head. He couldn’t tell Tang Tang about the illegitimate child. He forced down his anger and said lightly, "I’m fine. Just a bit dizzy. I’ll go rest for a while."
It wasn’t like he had any hosting duties tonight. He wasn’t the star of the banquet, nor a waiter. No one would notice his absence.
Tang Tang noticed his dazed eyes and pale face. Maybe he drank too much? Or maybe something happened he didn’t want to talk about.
He gently took Fu Xiaoyuan’s arm. "I’ll go with you, Brother Fu. I don’t fit in here anyway."
Fu Xiaoyuan had brought Tang Tang on the pretext of helping him network, but they both knew the truth. No one really welcomed him here.
If he stayed alone after Fu Xiaoyuan left, it would be awkward and humiliating.
Seeing Tang Tang’s concern, Fu Xiaoyuan’s heart softened. The dark mood lifted a little, "Okay."
Tang Tang smiled, "I’ll keep you company."
He, too, felt a bit dizzy, but that was no surprise. He hardly ever drank. Tonight, he’d been forced to drink a few glasses.
Well, he’d have to get used to it. If he wanted to join the Fu family and stand beside Brother Fu, there would be many more nights like this.
"Well, that’s one less thing to worry about."
Jiang Jiamian said with a snort, watching them disappear through the crowd. He was equally amused and impressed.
He had been planning to push things a little further, maybe help them get wet and change clothes in the locker room.
But now? It seemed these two were so devoted to each other, they ran off on their own.
Fu Yanchen raised an eyebrow and gripped Jiang Jiamian’s hand, rubbing his soft palm.
"What did you do?"
Of course, he already knew. It was the wine.
Fu Xiaoyuan’s part was expected. But... Tang Tang?
Jiang Jiamian smiled, "It’s not about what I did, but what good things they prepared for themselves."
He hadn’t drugged anyone. He simply returned the favor.
If there was a scandal, they had no one to blame but themselves.
Fu Yanchen stared at him deeply, trying to read his expression through the dim lighting. After a long pause, he said in a low, serious voice, "You’re really nothing like I thought at first."
Jiang Jiamian smiled slyly. "Oh? Are you afraid of falling for me?"
"Afraid?"
Fu Yanchen laughed, his voice soft but intense, "On the contrary, I’m falling harder than ever. A peerless monster like you? I’m never letting you go."
He had never known there could be creatures like this in the world, dangerous and intoxicating, impossible to resist.
