Psychic Overlord-Chapter 83: Team Members
Chapter 83: Team Members
Kaizer and Rina followed the commander into another room, which was full of equipment.
In terms of clothing, Kaizer had worn a simple black t-shirt and shorts along with slippers when coming here, which might seem sleazy but was actually in consideration of the fact that they would likely be outfitted.
Meanwhile, Rina had also worn something similar, hers being a simple light pink crop top along with black leggings that squeezed her thighs and a pair of sneakers. She left her pink headphones in the car when they got down, while her fiery red hair was tied into a soft ponytail.
The equipment room was massive, stretching far with walls lined with guns, armor, and all sorts of tactical gear. Overhead lights cast a bright glow on the metal surfaces, making everything gleam mechanically along with a hint of military flair.
Rows of rifles, SMGs, and handguns sat locked in place, many of them Kaizer recognized from shooting games he played before.
There were cases of grenades, knives, and energy cells, neatly stacked and labeled, capturing the sci-fi lover Rina’s attention, her slimy claws stretched out greedily toward them.
At the far end, a row of reinforced lockers held the more classified gear, each secured with biometric locks, likely meant for the actual special operatives who worked out of this base.
The group was met with a few technicians wearing dark blue uniforms who moved skillfully between workbenches, doing some advanced work that astonished the young duo.
Some were disassembling weapons carefully, splitting them into individual parts, while others were tweaking advanced optics and targeting systems using a robotic arm-laser combo and a terminal.
Commander Briggs walked ahead, leading Kaizer and Rina to a station where two sets of black, futuristic combat suits were displayed on mannequins.
He turned to them with a small smile. "Alright, kids. Time to gear up."
Kaizer and Rina shared a look then began to change, with Kaizer changing rather openly while using his telekinesis to outfit himself. As for Rina, she simply formed a cloud of death energy around her body, causing everyone in the room to feel a terrifying chill in their hearts, their bodily functions slowing down.
Kaizer had seen it before, but still remarked inwardly that Rina’s death energy was truly frightening. It touched a primal part of the human psyche, allowing everyone to know that in her hands, death would be the easiest form of release.
After they put on their gear, Briggs gestured to the suits, his fingers tapping against the reinforced chest plates on Kaizer’s version.
"This here is the Ghost Mark III, Federation’s latest special ops gear. Lightweight but tough as hell. Full-body nano-fiber weave, layered with a liquid armor mesh."
Seeing the confusion in the siblings’ eyes, Commander Briggs’ lips twitched. "This means it’s flexible when you move but hardens on impact. Bullets, knives, even some low-yield energy weapons? They’ll have a tough time getting through."
The Commander picked up a sleek black helmet from the table and tossed it toward Kaizer, who caught it effortlessly with his hands rather than his mind for once.
Commander Briggs pointed at the helmet he just threw over as he explained its functions. "This special tactical helmet has the latest integrated HUD technology that features a tactical display, target locking, and night vision."
The man then made a gesture to his temple. "If you take a hit to the head, auto-stabilizers kick in to prevent concussions. It also has built-in comms with encrypted channels so that you and your team can communicate within a range of 50 kilometers using positioning technology, so you cannot be signal-jammed."
Briggs locked eyes with Kaizer. "Most importantly, the visor can go completely opaque to hide your face. Please remember this when appearing in areas with recording devices."
Kaizer rolled the helmet in his hands, inspecting the smooth, almost organic design. He had seen similar gear on high-level operatives when he was entering the base, but this was far more advanced.
Rina was already feeling the fabric of the suit, pulling at the material with curiosity. "So it’s like, super armor but stretchy?"
Briggs nodded. "Exactly. It won’t restrict movement, and the gloves have tactile enhancement tech, meaning you can grip surfaces like a gecko. You can climb walls, hang off ceilings if you need to."
Rina’s eyes lit up. "Spider-man! Call me Rina Parker!"
Kaizer glanced at her askance. "You don’t believe in great power and great responsibility, so you can’t be a Parker."
While Rina pouted, Commander Briggs – who understood that this young girl would give him high blood pressure if he listened to her anymore – moved to a set of black combat boots sitting on a bench and threw them to Kaizer and Rina.
"These elite tactical boots have reinforced soles with shock dampeners. You can drop from thirty feet and barely feel it. Also, there are built-in thrusters for short bursts that go up, left, right, forward, and back, but there are no down thrusters since you have gravity. It’s not the same as flight, but it’ll help close gaps in combat or dodge incoming fire."
Kaizer nodded as he picked up the high-tech tactical belt sitting beside the boots. "And this?"
Briggs glanced over. "That’s your utility belt, but don’t let the simple design fool you. It contains slots for grenades, energy cells, a retractable combat knife, and an emergency stim injector. If you’re on the brink of death, that injector will force your body into overdrive, keeping you alive long enough to escape."
Rina whistled. "Fancy."
Briggs folded his arms, watching the two. "We’re throwing you into an active battlefield, so you’re getting top-tier gear."
Kaizer put on the helmet and switched off the opaque mode after he got the hang of the controls, and so too did Rina. Putting on their boots and utility belts, the duo looked like a pair of main antagonists from a sci-fi movie’s evil organization that the hero must take down to reach the reactor core and stop the explosion.
"Now, for your team." Commander Briggs was satisfied with their adaptation and brought them into a lobby-like room.
The moment they entered, Kaizer’s brows raised while Rina frowned severely. This was natural, as their team was made up of women, and extremely beautiful ones at that, who were not less than Rina herself.
These women also wore the tactical suits, the skintight armor outlining their varying, yet curvy figures. When they saw Rina and Kaizer enter, they were not surprised and stood up to receive the two, especially Kaizer.
Two of the women removed their helmets, revealing two familiar faces, Maria Rosenthia and Julia Bergkoff, i.e. Sadistic Flame and Crystal Ice!
Commander Briggs stepped forward. "Mr. Rochester told us that these two women are part of your personal force and must compulsorily be in your team no matter what."
Rina’s eyebrows raised. "So these are them? They are a lot sexier than you mentioned, Brother. Why, do you fancy one of them?"
Kaizer remained calm despite Rina’s overt jealousy. "No. They offered, I rejected. When I rejected, there was only one person in my mind and you know who it is."
Others might not understand, but Rina did. Immediately, her scowl softened and she huffed, looking away, no longer bothering with the two women.
"What about this one?" Rina asked, looking at the third woman who had yet to remove her helmet.
"I am Sophia Rochester, A-class esper with the name Void Walker." A sleek feminine voice came from under the helmet as it was slowly removed, revealing a young lady at the same age as Kaizer and Rina.
She had curly auburn hair that was slicked back in the same manner as Kaizer, displaying a lot of her small forehead. Her dark black eyes seemed to be pools of darkness, and her facial features were half-Caucasian and half-Asian.
This gave her a certain symmetrical, feminine intense beauty typical of Asian women, while also possessing the fleshy figure of Western women, balancing out in a rather perfect combination.
When she removed her helmet, she only glanced at Rina askance before focusing on Kaizer, who was the reason she was signed up for this.
"My father sent me here to assist you on this mission and to... get to know you, I guess. So I will be under your care, Team Leader." She stated formally, not a trace of reluctance on her face, but there wasn’t much interest nor willingness either.
She was clearly treating it as a request from her father, and even if she didn’t like it, she wouldn’t let her personal feelings ruin the mission and would put in her absolute 100% at all times.
Kaizer did not even need to say anything, Rina smirked and yawned. "Boring. The Dean shouldn’t have sent you in particular over because no matter how pretty you are, a boring personality will disgust my brother."
Kaizer remained silent but agreed. He was already a reclusive person who wanted to be more outgoing, so girls like Rina who could carry conversations and gatherings on her own charisma were fatal for him, while those who were just as bland as he himself did not spark his interest.
