Chapter 78: Advanced Training Regime

The alarm on his phone rang at 6 am on the dot, and Kaizer’s eyes snapped open. He got up straight away and turned off the alarm, heading to the bathroom for a quick morning shower before applying deodorant and choosing his clothes.

Due to the need for training, he wore a purple tracksuit.

He telekinetically combed his hair into its usual slicked-back style, checking himself in the mirror to see that he was fully presentable before heading downstairs.

He sat in his Dodge Viper and pulled out of the villa before speeding toward one of the classes that were on this morning at 7 am, which was about the Esper Society and its factions.

Rina yawned the entire time as she continued snacking, looking tired as her training routine with Madam Sylvia was also not as easy as it seemed.

After the class, Kaizer headed to the training center to begin his day.

Kaizer calmly stepped into his training chamber from the hallway, the automated doors hissing shut behind him.

The cold, metallic sight of the reinforced room seemed to tease him with the memories of past exertion (read as: suffering), while the overhead lights buzzed softly.

Kaizer exhaled, adjusting the zipper of his tracksuit, this time wearing a purple-colored one.

Today’s training would be drastically different from those that came before in terms of sheer difficulty; this was something the Dean promised him after Kaizer revealed his growth in terms of base power after the killing in the sewer.

He had taken down the four espers from the Ancients, four of the B-rank esper squad, and Barnes himself, amounting to nine kills. He couldn’t exactly measure his telekinetic or telepathic growth, but his telesthesia’s range had increased by 90 meters, meaning his max sensory distance was now 380 meters.

As Kaizer pondered his power growth, a familiar pleasant female AI voice chimed through the room.

[Greetings, student Kaizer, a new Training Regimen has been recorded for you. Please take note of the details.]

A digital screen flickered to life above the central terminal in the training room, displaying the day’s hellish routine to Kaizer, whose face changed greatly.

[Advanced Training Regimen for Student Kaizer, Implemented by William Rochester.

Compulsory Rules:

1. Regimen starts strictly at 9 am, not a minute before or after.

2. After each session is a 5-minute medical pod recovery and a 25-minute lounge break.

3. The training cannot be ended before 5 pm under any circumstance.

4. Elixir can be freely dispatched if the student is truly unable to continue, judged by the room AI.

5. The rules of each training session must be followed, and any deviation would require the entire session to be restarted.

Training Routine:

1. Weighted Endurance Sprint – 50 laps around the 500-meter track with a 150kg weighted vest.

2. High-Gravity Plyometrics – 200 explosive box jumps under 10x gravity.

3. Endurance Combat Drills – 30 minutes of continuous combat against six high-speed droids.

4. Esper Overload Control – Sustain 120% of maximum esper output for 5 minutes without collapsing.

5. Adaptive Strength Training – 5 rounds of max-weight squats, deadlifts, and bench presses with increasing loads.

6. Survival Gauntlet – Evade, counter, and resist attacks from a randomized set of opponents for 20 minutes with no breaks.

Remarks from Instructor: Death is simply a path to a new life~]

Kaizer’s lips twitched. Why did his instructor seem to assume that he would absolutely keel over and die under these harsh conditions? Kaizer felt that he might not be the strongest fellow in terms of willpower, but he was not one to easily give up either.

[Student Kaizer, initiate the first exercise: Weighted Endurance Sprint. Failure will require a repeat from the start. Please step on the starting line to begin.]

To his surprise, the floor beneath him shifted, transforming into an expansive track. Clearly, the Augmented Reality technology utilized by the Training Center had not been operating at full power like he thought before.

Kaizer walked toward the starting line and the moment his feet hit the designated area, a set of weights appeared on a vest around his torso that immediately locked in place, pushing his body into the ground.

His muscles straightaway screamed in protest as he gritted his teeth, but the young man began his run after a 3-count, forcing his body forward.

One lap. Two laps. Ten laps.

Kaizer’s breathing grew ragged as sweat trickled down his back. The vest’s weight turned every step into a battle, his thighs burning like they were tearing apart. He couldn’t use telekinesis to enhance his body as this was a purely physical training exercise.

By the time he hit thirty laps, his vision blurred. At forty laps, his legs buckled, and he crashed onto one knee.

"...!" Kaizer was alarmed by his failure, but the AI did not seem to count it as such.

Gritting his teeth, he pushed himself up, veins bulging as he willed his body forward since he had been given some sort of amnesty. The last ten laps were a haze of pain, his body moving on sheer instinct until the AI system chimed.

[Task Complete, you may recuperate.]

Kaizer collapsed onto his back, chest heaving. His limbs felt like lead, so he couldn’t move. He lifted his body using telekinesis and dragged himself into a recovery pod, almost groaning in joy when the liquid flushed in and his torn muscles began to repair themselves.

Of course, once more, this did not actually clear accumulated fatigue, but compared to the physical strain, Kaizer felt the fatigue was a joke. Besides, he had 25 minutes of rest time, which he immediately used to nap as he set an alarm.

DODORING~ PURU PURU~

Kaizer’s bloodshot eyes snapped open, yawning as he got up and went to begin the next exercise.

[Student Kaizer, initiate the second exercise: High-Gravity Plyometrics. Failure will require a repeat from the start. Please step on the marked area to begin.]

As Kaizer moved into the red area, he immediately felt a force act upon his body as the gravity settings increased. His body doubled, then tripled in weight, making standing a feat in itself.

The terminal that always remained steadfast in the center of the room seemed to mock his exhaustion.

Kaizer mustered his will, bent his knees, and jumped!!

...Or at least, he tried. The truth was, his body barely left the ground.

Gritting his teeth, he recalibrated, channeling raw strength into his calves. Surprisingly, his next jump was better and the one that came right after that was even higher.

Each repetition sent shockwaves through his body, his tendons stretching to their limits. By the hundredth jump, his legs quivered, and his maximum jump height had reduced by a quarter.

By the two-hundredth, his maximum jump height was already less than half, and if it weren’t for the fact that he put maximum effort into each movement, he likely would have been disqualified.

In the end, Kaizer naturally collapsed, his entire body refusing to move.

[Task Complete, you may recuperate.]

He panted, arms bracing against the floor as he forced himself upright. This time, his legs were unresponsive, so he could only use telekinesis to get him to the healing pod for recovery.

Just like before, he chose to set an alarm and sleep to recover some energy, even eating a bit to assist in that end.

[Student Kaizer, initiate the third exercise: Endurance Combat Drills. Failure will require a repeat from the start. Please step on the marked area to begin.]

The training room shifted once more. Six combat mannequins materialized around him, their faceless heads turning and locking onto their target, which, unfortunately, was him.

The moment the buzzer rang, they attacked with fury, utilizing actual combat techniques like Taekwondo, Krav Maga, Judo, and more.

Kaizer ducked, narrowly avoiding a strike to his ribs while frowning, noticing that the speed of these mannequins was almost overwhelming. Without telesthesia, he would likely not be able to dodge such movements.

His battle instincts took over, fists lashing out in precise, bone-crushing counters with telekinesis added, since that was allowed here. However, the mannequins that flew back at his touch during previous combat drills were like immovable walls, tanking his hits and trading injury for injury, simply aiming to land a blow at all costs.

Suddenly, among the constant weaving Kaizer did, a metal knee slammed into his gut, forcing the air from his lungs. The young man gasped and twisted, grabbing the mannequin’s arm with telekinesis and using its own momentum to send it flying away to give himself space, but another slammed into his back, sending him sprawling.

Minutes blurred together in a haze of strikes, blocks, and counterattacks as Kaizer pushed his telesthesia to the limit in order to react to the beatdown.

By the time the AI system chimed, he was barely standing, his knuckles raw, sweat dripping from his chin.

[Task Complete, you may recuperate.]

Everywhere hurt, and Kaizer had to limp toward the medical pod for recovery. After that, he went to relax in the lounge area without sleeping, simply simulating the previous combat scenarios in his head and thinking of ways to do better.

When the time came for his rest to end, he boldly got up, ready to continue.

[Student Kaizer, initiate the fourth exercise: Esper Overload Control. Failure will require a repeat from the start. Please step on the marked area to begin.]

Kaizer clenched his fists. This was definitely going to be the hardest and most painful part.

He breathed out lightly as his esper energy surged as he pushed past his natural limit.

100% power. 110%. 120%—

Kaizer’s veins and temples pulsed, skin radiating heat. His increase in psychic energy meant that his overall esper energy increased greatly past what a typical S-class esper should have, and just releasing it actually caused physical phenomena!

Every fiber of his being screamed to stop because something terrible would happen if he overloaded his esper energy. The pressure built in his skull, threatening to crush his consciousness as his temples began to bulge and snake crazily.

He gritted his teeth, enduring. If the session had not been capped to five minutes, Kaizer was sure he would have exploded in a mass of esper energy, taking out the entire training center like a humanoid nuke.

[Task Complete, you may recuperate.]

Kaizer did not even have the energy to make noise. He just crawled like a dog into the pod and recovered. Afterward, he fell asleep again, almost vomiting the food he ate earlier as his body felt unprecedented weakness.

Even when he later woke up, it was not much better.

[Student Kaizer, initiate the final exercise: Survival Gauntlet. Failure will require a repeat from the start. Please step on the marked area to begin.]

The young man walked up to the marked area with heavy steps, akin to a lifeless zombie. His eyelids drooped in fatigue and his body felt like it had been pressed under a road roller, but he still stood on the spot.

The training room morphed again, for the final time this day.

The mannequins spawned en masse, charging at him as if he killed their parents. On top of that were a bunch of energy turrets which required his psychic barrier to block or it would sting painfully.

Unrelenting opponents attacked from every angle. Kaizer’s battered body moved on instinct, weaving, dodging, countering.

If Kaizer were to explain to you how he survived this 20-minute period, he would not be able to tell you.

All he knew was that every second was a battle for survival and at the 20-minute mark, when the AI system finally shut down, he dropped to the floor face-first, partially unconscious, body drenched in sweat.

He was done, but he could not feel any joy whatsoever.

Because tomorrow... he would do it all over again.
