Psychic Overlord-Chapter 71: S-Class Superiority 3
Chapter 71: S-Class Superiority 3
At this moment, two flows of psychic energy were stripped from the corpses he took down and were infused in his mind, increasing his upper limit once more.
Kaizer glanced at the shaken Carl - who couldn’t believe how close he had come to death despite his powerful abilities - and noticed that the grey-haired esper did not look at the energy leaving the corpse and flowing into his body.
That was something Kaizer always wondered. If those adept in seeing psychic manifestations were to be present when Kaizer killed a person, would they sense his ability to drain the corpse? As far as Kaizer could see, Carl did not react to this feat, which he surely would because what Kaizer was doing was thought to be impossible.
Sadistic Flame and Crystal Ice, who were poised to strike at the moment when Kaizer was under siege, were frozen in place, their expressions mirrored perfectly in shock. Not only were they surprised to find that Carl could mind control others, but they were also shocked by Kaizer’s ease of killing.
Yes, seeing such a young man and theorizing that it was his first job made them think he would have the jitters as an inexperienced youth and subconsciously pull his punches, only incapacitating his foes. However, seeing one person’s entire chest area become see-through while the other was pulverized, the two ladies felt their hearts go cold.
It was now that they realized how foolish their previous thinking had been. On what grounds did they have to compete with Kaizer, who could decimate two squads of espers on his own without taking a hint of damage?
The answer was ignorance. S-class espers were extremely rare, and one in this cavern had ever met any in actual combat before. Yeah, S-class espers took on missions, but if we are to take Alpha City as an example, the entire city had a population of nearly 20 million people.
Of that, around 500,000 were espers. And of that number, not more than 20 were S-class espers, including graduates, bosses of organizations stationed here like the Dean and the current seven S-class students in the Academy.
Bosses of organizations would not deign to do low-level missions like this, and graduates were usually being groomed to be top-level bosses or had a team of their own doing top-level missions worldwide. That level only the esper academy students would use stuff like this for assessment and training, so with only 7 students - 5 before Kaizer and Rina joined - what were the chances of encountering such people?
Kaizer was no longer interested in wasting time, simply squeezing his palm, causing the area surrounding the entire group to be enveloped in a crushing force. The face of the African American man changed as he grabbed Carl and fled the zone faster than Kaizer’s eyes could follow, leaving David, Seline, and two other B-class espers within.
All four of them were reduced to meat paste as the force acted on them, not feeling any pain at the moment of their deaths, being squashed into a clump of meat. More psychic energy wafted over to Kaizer, and he accepted it quietly, feeling the barrier around his total power widen greatly and his potential soaring.
The clump of meat was tossed aside by Kaizer who suddenly charged toward Carl with a cold face, causing the still shocked young man to panic. He screamed and crawled back on the ground, waving his hand at the other three B-rank espers.
"Stop him! Stop him now!" Carl shouted, trying to rush to his feet and run.
However, it was futile as Kaizer enacted a suppressive force on the entire group, causing them to freeze on the spot. The constant telekinetic pressure acted like an increased gravity domain, causing them to fall flat on the ground, even the African American who had super speed.
Kaizer casually flung the mind-controlled espers aside, knocking them out as he grabbed Carl once more, initiating the mental battle. Carl was immediately rendered desperate since he knew he couldn’t escape.
The gray-haired fellow turned his head towards the two women who were slowly distancing themselves from this fight. He reached out a hand, focusing his mental power on them and trying to force them to fight Kaizer on his behalf.
Knowing his abilities, the two ladies’ faces changed as they actively tried to resist, but they did not have a mind-related superpower and couldn’t break free.
Now you understand why Kaizer hid his telepathy and why telepaths were not tolerated at all.
Sadistic Flame groaned and raised a hand, condensing a huge ball of flame, and firing it out towards Kaizer. Crystal Ice followed up with a storm of jagged ice spears the size of a regular spear, all sent flying at a rather fast speed.
"Don’t waste your time." Kaizer advised Carl, whose actions had even weakened his defense further, allowing Kaizer to make a breach and invade.
Before doing so, he allocated a portion of his psychic power to form a telekinetic barrier which easily received both attacks. After suffering the million newton strikes of the combat puppet during training, this kind of attack was not a problem for him.
However, Kaizer was quickly proven wrong. If Sadistic Flame and Crystal Ice’s powers were the basic elemental manipulation type, they would be B-rank espers like Hector and Lisa, not A-rankers.
His barrier trembled greatly as the fireball struck it, in which a severe explosion occurred that caused the entire area to tremble. On top of that, the ice spears, which were blocked on contact, began to actually freeze the barrier itself, or at least, his telekinetic force that made it exist.
Kaizer glanced at them and understood. The fire user had an additional ability; her flames possessed a detonation effect akin to TNT, which greatly increased their destructive power beyond typical methods. She was not just hurling fire at you, she was gift-wrapping a missile for you free of charge.
Meanwhile, the ice user’s frost did not have the same crazy offensive power, but its cold effect could even affect energy and non-tangible things, so she could deal with things like spirits, curses, or the like, which greatly increased the versatility of her power.
However, that was about it. Kaizer was focused on Carl, but it did not mean he could not take the time to deal with them and with a simple telekinetic cannon blast, he shattered the hastily put-up defenses of both ladies, sending them flying down the tunnel that they had turned their back to, hurtling them into the darkness.
"No one here to save you now," Kaizer remarked coldly as he invaded Carl’s mindscape amidst the man’s desperate pleading and screams.
Kaizer viewed his first mindscape apart from Rina’s and he was immediately struck by the magnitude. Carl had more than just a meager planet, his mindscape consisted of a burning star in the middle, with countless satellites orbiting around.
After careful observation, Kaizer realized that the satellites were the core mindscapes of those he controlled, having them projected here for control purposes. This allowed him to execute anyone he had enslaved freely, without needing to fear backlash from them.
Kaizer observed the process and the connection, feeling inspired by Carl’s method. As a former student of the academy and someone who had followed a tailored training plan, it was clear his attainments in telepathy were high since that was his only esper power, unlike Kaizer whose was broad.
Kaizer attempted to use the same methods on Carl, but the young man kicked and thrashed in Kaizer’s grip, causing a ruckus as he resisted all the way. Kaizer frowned as he was experiencing difficulty, like a muscular adult trying to hold down a cat that was thrashing crazily, wanting to be released.
Yeah, he was stronger than the cat, but in the act of its crazy thrashing, it was ’smashing appliances’ and cutting one’s skin with its claws in desperation, causing discomfort and pain.
Kaizer was currently feeling the mental equivalent for trying this on Carl.
Carl roared and his bloodshot eyes grew wide as his mental energy stopped blocking Kaizer on the outside and charged inward crazily. Immediately it rushed into his brain and caused the aforementioned organ to swell before exploding his entire scalp into pieces, causing the struggles to restrain him to come to a halt.
Kaizer managed to block the gray matter from splashing all over him by using a psychic barrier at the last moment, but his expression was not too pleased. At least he knew how to invade minds, but against those with mental abilities and the like, there was a strong chance of alternative failure.
He casually threw Carl’s body aside as without a brain, it was useless to him, and the two uninjured women came back to their senses. Instead of saying hi and explaining themselves, they simply grabbed their weapons and fled the sewer, giving up on this commission for good without even looking back.
