Psychic Overlord-Chapter 107: Second Testing Session 1
Chapter 107: Second Testing Session 1
"That’s fine, but I also want to know why Davion can turn an S-class esper into a lifeless doll and no one bats an eye." Kaizer put the knowledge of the Alpha City clans to his mind and then asked the Dean.
Dean Rochester nodded. "I did some research on this after I brought you back. Apparently, Eleanor was a first-generation esper who was raised in an orphanage and grew up relatively poor. Her S-class esper ability was Chrono Reflex, a unique new power that granted her the ability to utilize a form of time skip, time acceleration, and precognition to fight."
Kaizer’s eyebrows shot up. No wonder she had so easily dealt with him despite his enhanced telekinetic ability; she was not charging at him by running very fast like Soren or Bjorn, but rather skipping the time it took to reach him.
Likewise, every punch she threw was accelerated from the moment she launched it to the moment she struck, increasing the lethal force and making it almost unavoidable.
Thinking about the number of times that Kaizer had managed to actually evade such blows by a hair’s breadth, he couldn’t help but regain a bit of confidence in himself.
"What led to her becoming like that was that she was found through an accident by a member of the Supreme Force. As you might be aware, not every esper attends the academy during their lifetime, and it’s not a hard requirement for any esper to."
"She was taken in by the Supreme Force, who intended to train her as a candidate for the strongest to replace Reaper, but during her first mission, she was reported to have deserted, leading to the death of her entire team. As it stands, before you came back, there was a wanted order for her." The Dean elaborated slowly.
Kaizer’s expression shifted to solemnity. "How could the clans be so... audacious?"
Deserter? Nonsense, it was likely that a younger Davion took a fancy to Eleanor and launched an ambush along with some clan elders to subdue Eleanor and then transform her into a doll while slaughtering her team to put it all on her head.
The Supreme Force was clueless about this and even put a wanted order on her? Or were they truly clueless? The wanted order could also be an answer to those friends Eleanor made who doubted that she would do this.
If Davion never brought her out and never monologued crazily about her origins, no one would have known. In fact, Davion only did that because he was confident in dealing with Kaizer there and then, so he felt that there was no problem in ’dead men telling no tales’.
Unfortunately for him, he wasn’t ready for Rina at the time, so he was forced to retreat.
No wonder Commander Rourke had shown such an expression when Rina revealed Eleanor’s attack on Kaizer and the involvement of Davion. There was actually so much information hidden in what Rina said that meant too many things.
Firstly, the clans had been ambushing various talented espers whose futures could threaten them if they were not affiliated with other clans.
Secondly, they had even taken down one of their most promising S-class espers and turned her into a weapon.
Thirdly, they had a method to block Supreme Force surveillance of various battlefields without alerting the faction itself.
Fourthly, there was someone on the inside of the Supreme Force helping the clans, otherwise, how was such information leaked?
And there was more on top of that.
Kaizer understood that the Supreme Force, and likely the esper world, was about to undergo a great upheaval. Many espers who had disappeared or died during this time, even if it had nothing to do with the clans, would be attributed to them, and the clans would draw the hostility of the entire esper world.
The question was whether the clans cared about this or not. If they were strong enough and united enough to ignore everyone, then they would just move from the shadows into the open and become wanton. If they were not ready and united, then it spelled a great disaster for the clans.
Kaizer breathed out deeply. "Alright, thank you for clearing that up for me. How are the victims of the train attack faring?"
Dean Rochester nodded in approval. "They are faring quite well. Along with the help of the Supreme Force’s telepath, their memories were altered, hiding the actions of you three while marking the event as a standard terrorist attack." fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
Kaizer was puzzled by this. "Why a terrorist attack and not a fault or accident of the tracks?"
Dean Rochester glanced at his student with a thin smile. "Because the higher-ups would rather put the safety issue on external factors rather than internal."
That’s right, if it was a fault, then it was their fault due to incompetence that so many people almost died, but if it was terrorism, their fault was lesser because extremists were crazy.
"I have got my answers for now. What I want to know is where my current base power lies after the increases I gained during this mission." Kaizer requested of the Dean, who smiled.
"Of course, I am also curious myself, so let’s have a go, shall we?" Dean Rochester said in a jolly manner before tapping his cane on the ground, teleporting himself and Kaizer out of the office and into the testing chamber.
Kaizer glanced around at the familiar testing chamber that he had visited when he first came to the academy and smiled slightly.
It had been nearly two months since he had first undergone these evaluations, and in that time, he had fought and trained, growing far beyond what he had once been.
Now, it was time to put that into numbers and writing.
Dean Rochester stood nearby, his cane tapping lightly against the pristine floor as he leaned on it with a casual demeanor. His gaze, however, was sharp, assessing Kaizer with an amused yet analytical interest.
"Well then, Kaizer, shall we see just how much you’ve improved?" The Dean requested, his voice carrying a hint of anticipation.
Kaizer gave a quick nod, stepping toward the central terminal with familiarity. As before - and as always - the AI’s pleasant, synthetic voice chimed through the room.
"Applicant Kaizer Lunin, please place your right hand on the scanner."
He complied, feeling the brief warmth of the biometric scan before the AI continued.
"Verification complete. You have listed your Esper Abilities as Telekinesis and Telesthesia. Initiating Telekinesis evaluation. Please strike the dummy with the maximum force you can exert."
A humanoid dummy materialized several meters ahead of him. Unlike before, Kaizer could now perceive its existence despite its lack of a mind, his heightened Telesthesia allowing him to sense the way it displaced space itself.
Taking a slow breath, Kaizer gathered his power. This time, he was not merely expelling raw telekinetic force like before, but rather compressed and refined it, shaping it into a precise and devastating release.
BANG!!
The air trembled as a cannon-like shockwave erupted from his mind, striking the dummy with such ferocity that it vaporized instantly. The sheer force left a concussive blast rippling outward, shaking the chamber’s reinforced walls.
"Calculating..." the AI intoned.
It then revealed the results. "Your estimated telekinetic force at maximum output is 5.1 million newtons, equivalent to the impact force of a freight train at full speed or a low-caliber missile detonation."
Kaizer exhaled sharply, noting the mental strain which stood at about 13% in terms of overall mental stamina depletion, a significant improvement from before.
The AI seamlessly transitioned to the next test, conjuring a combat-ready dummy.
"Applicant Kaizer, please defend against the dummy’s attacks using only your telekinetic barrier. Its strike force will begin at 1.5 million newtons per punch and escalate every five seconds."
This time, Kaizer was ready as his psychic barrier materialized instantly, a translucent blue shimmer forming in front of him just as the dummy lunged, delivering a thunderous punch.
THUD!
The impact sent a subtle ripple through the barrier, but it held firm.
Another strike came, then another on top of that. The attacks began to compound, growing stronger with each successive hit, going up to 1.8 million newtons, then 2 million and then 2.2 million.
Kaizer furrowed his brows, feeling the increasing pressure. It was like standing in front of a collapsing building, the force of that hammering against his mind.
However, unlike before, he wasn’t merely enduring; he was adapting. He began to disperse the force by using the barrier as a shield, taking the force from the impact point and spreading it outward through guidance.
Finally, at 2.5 million newtons, his barrier shattered with an echoing crack sound!
Kaizer staggered slightly, feeling the familiar spike of pain in his skull, but this time, it was brief and mostly manageable, not fatal enough to doom him if it occurred in battle.
"Maximum tolerance reached: 2.5 million newtons per strike, equivalent to the impact of a speeding truck hitting a reinforced barrier."
Kaizer rolled his shoulders, shaking off the lingering pressure as he felt like his mental stamina had been consumed by a total of 25% so far, only a quarter.
The AI transitioned smoothly to the next task. "Applicant Kaizer, please lift the designated cube using only telekinesis and sustain it as high as possible for as long as possible."
