Chapter 549: Chapter 549: A Day Apart Feels Like Three Autumns (2)_1

"You are not my daughter-in-law, and I will never accept you as one!" Alwin Ruiz burst out, her face flushed with anger from Rachel Bailey’s retort.

"Fine. Since I’m not your daughter-in-law, then you’re not my mother-in-law. If you’re not my mother-in-law, what right do you have to lecture me? This is my home; what right do you have to enter? I’m sorry, but I’m hungry. I need to eat. I won’t keep you!" Rachel Bailey was furious and stormed past Alwin Ruiz.

Did she really think Rachel was so eager to be Alwin Ruiz’s daughter-in-law? Who would want such a domineering, stubborn, and autocratic mother-in-law?

"You... As soon as I say a few words, you talk back! Don’t think that just because Hansen likes you, you can do whatever you want! I’m telling you, no way!" Alwin Ruiz was so angry she was nearly jumping up and down.

All her usual poise and gentleness had vanished. At this moment, she resembled a common shrew.

Yet, her prideful nature hadn’t changed. Even though Rachel Bailey had made her practically jump with rage, she still kept her voice down, fearing the neighbors might hear and she would lose face.

"I’ll tell Hansen about this," Alwin Ruiz cursed under her breath while deliberately reaching for her phone, pretending to call Hansen Ruiz.

Unexpectedly, Rachel Bailey, who had walked several meters away, turned back. She handed her own phone to Alwin Ruiz, saying with a forced smile, "Would you prefer to use my phone? I think he’ll pick up faster if it’s my number."

"You!" Alwin Ruiz’s face turned green on the spot.

Fuming, Alwin Ruiz glared at Rachel Bailey’s sardonic smile. She wanted to continue scolding her but realized that Rachel would deflect whatever she said.

That woman always had a sharp tongue. In the past, she held back from lashing out at me, probably out of consideration for Hansen. Now... there’s a saying, ’There is a limit to one’s patience, and beyond that point, patience is no longer required.’ Is this woman not going to put up with it anymore?

Remembering her son’s warning, Alwin Ruiz didn’t dare to actually call him to complain. She knew she was being unreasonable and nitpicking from the start.

"Would you like to have dinner together?" Rachel Bailey asked indifferently. Seeing that Alwin Ruiz was so angry her face had turned green, Rachel had dropped the facade.

Time to quit while I’m ahead! Better to appease the old lady. Otherwise, she might think that Rachel Bailey, having married into the Ruiz Family, is just a pushover!

Alwin Ruiz was almost petrified. She had just learned how quickly someone could change their tune, faster than flipping through a book. A moment ago, Rachel had been squarely confronting her, and now she was inviting her to dine together?

Her stomach grumbled slightly in protest. She was indeed hungry.

Yet, she wanted to trouble Rachel Bailey once more.

"I don’t like food from outside; there’s too much MSG." It was clear she was demanding that Rachel Bailey cook for her personally.

Rachel Bailey said nothing. She simply turned back to the door, took out her keys, and unlocked the villa’s main entrance. It took her less than two minutes to do so, highlighting how exaggerated Alwin Ruiz’s earlier fuss had been.

Floyd Thomas had stood by the whole time, not daring to utter an extra word, but his eyes had never left the two women. He took in every word of their verbal sparring. He felt profound admiration for Rachel Bailey, the young mistress of humble origins. The Young Master, Hansen Ruiz, could handle his mother due to his own firmness and capability. Yet the Young Mistress, Rachel Bailey, didn’t need any suppressive tactics; with her words alone, she could render Madam Ruiz speechless.

Indeed, a worthy wife for Hansen Ruiz!

At that moment, Floyd Thomas somewhat understood why Hansen Ruiz had fallen for Rachel Bailey—she was extraordinary. Even though she could be sharp-tongued, it was hard for anyone to truly despise her, not to mention she could change her demeanor in an instant. He had heard that the Young Mistress’s business was doing quite well. She had secured deals with several factories and some small restaurants, and many people in the neighboring villages were busy working for her.

With such intelligence, the Young Mistress was bound to gain even more respect in the future.

After Rachel Bailey opened the villa’s front door, she strode inside without hesitation.

Alwin Ruiz no longer spoke and followed Rachel Bailey inside.

Upon entering the house and seeing everything neat and spotless, Alwin Ruiz’s gaze flickered several times. Hansen Ruiz had considered hiring servants, but Rachel Bailey didn’t want them. Even though she was earning some money now, she still preferred to take care of her own small home. So, she made time every day to tidy up and clean. It could be said she was an excellent homemaker.

"Sit down. Help yourself to whatever you like to eat or drink. I’m going to cook," Rachel Bailey said indifferently, then walked towards the kitchen.

Alwin Ruiz, who had been infuriated by Rachel just a moment ago, was now being treated this way. Swallowing her pride, she sat down on the sofa and waited for Rachel to cook for her.

She had tasted Rachel’s cooking before; it was quite good. What she relished, however, was her daughter-in-law cooking for her.

"UGH—" Suddenly, Rachel Bailey covered her mouth and rushed out of the kitchen towards the first-floor restroom.

Alwin Ruiz’s brow furrowed. What’s making her vomit all of a sudden? Isn’t she cooking?

Alwin Ruiz stood up and walked into the kitchen to take a look. She saw a covered pot with a fish steaming inside; it wasn’t cooked yet, and the stove was still on.

Rachel Bailey was still vomiting in the restroom. She didn’t know what had happened. Suddenly, it was as if she had eaten something bad; the smell of cooking fumes made her want to vomit.

"Are you all right?" Alwin Ruiz walked to the restroom door and asked coldly.

Rachel Bailey shook her head, her face pale.

"Are you sick? It’s the change of seasons from winter to spring. The weather isn’t good, and it’s the easiest time to catch the flu. You got up early this morning for business; make sure to wear more clothes so you don’t catch a cold," Alwin Ruiz said casually, unaware that this was a form of concern.

"I’m fine. It’s just that the smell of the cooking fumes suddenly made me want to vomit," Rachel Bailey said as she came out of the restroom.

Alwin Ruiz gave her a suspicious look but said nothing more.

Rachel Bailey returned to the kitchen to continue cooking.

An hour later, Rachel Bailey finally finished making lunch. It was already one in the afternoon. Usually, Alwin Ruiz would have already eaten by this time. Today, however, because she had been deliberately difficult, the meal was delayed, and she was becoming quite restless from hunger.
