Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law-Chapter 545 Sudden Departure (2)_1
The most important meal was breakfast.
In this day and age, life moved at a fast pace, and few people could eat breakfast at a fixed time. Most dealt with it casually; some even skipped breakfast altogether. In the morning, the stomach was empty. Without breakfast, there was nothing for the stomach to process, which could easily wear it down, leading to stomach diseases.
This concern had suddenly occurred to him. He decided he had to change Julia’s daily routine. For the health of Julia and the baby, sometimes he needed to be appropriately domineering.
Opening her eyes, Julia blinked her sleepy, almond-shaped eyes and asked, "What time is it?"
"It’s seven o’clock."
"It’s still early at seven. Didn’t you want me to learn from Adele and sleep a bit more? I’m a bit tired, so I’ll sleep a little longer. Just have the servant save my breakfast for me," Julia said, clinging to the warmth of her bed, unwilling to leave. After speaking, she reached out, hugged Glades Horne’s pillow to her chest, closed her eyes, and planned to go back to sleep. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
This man changes so quickly, she couldn’t help but grumble to herself. He usually let her sleep in, but today he insisted on her waking up at seven. If it were a workday, she would indeed be getting up at this time.
Unable to resist a chuckle, Julia said, "Glades, stop it. Let me sleep a bit more."
She wanted to know why he was so insistent on her getting up now.
"Are you hungry?" Glades didn’t reply, just asked.
Julia blinked, and then she indeed felt her stomach growling.
Being pregnant, she got hungry very quickly. Although she didn’t eat much at each meal, she’d usually have milk, fruit, and nourishing soup—essentially snacking whenever she was free. But sometimes she still felt hungry quickly. Her baby really can eat! she thought.
Fortunately, she hadn’t gained much weight from eating this way, just a slight increase in body fat. Overall, she was far from being considered overweight.
"See, you’re hungry, so you have to get up and fill your stomach. I think my daughter must be hungry too," Glades Horne said, his eyes gentle and his affection overflowing. His gaze fell on Julia’s belly beneath the blanket, and his smile grew even more doting.
Julia was certain that in a few more months, the baby would definitely become his new favorite. If it were a son, she guessed, he wouldn’t be as doting. Everyone says fathers and sons are natural rivals, while daughters are their fathers’ little darlings.
With Glades Horne pestering her, it was impossible for Julia to even think of sleeping in any longer.
「Half an hour later.」
The couple went downstairs.
The sound of a car could be heard from outside.
James Horne’s red Audi drove into the drizzling spring rain and pulled into the garage.
He didn’t carry an umbrella.
Despite the rain, he didn’t bring an umbrella.
A servant, holding an umbrella, walked towards him.
James’ face bore signs of haggardness and fatigue. His eyes were bloodshot, as if he hadn’t slept all night, and dark circles were evident beneath them. He didn’t take the umbrella offered by the servant; instead, he walked towards the Main House through the spring rain. Even though it wasn’t a long walk, it was enough to drench his hair.
The cold rain on his handsome face pulled him back to reality.
Just before stepping into the Main House, his expression regained its usual indifference; the haggardness and weariness seemed to disappear.
The servant was somewhat surprised by his action but didn’t dare to ask further, awkwardly leaving with the umbrella.
Mr. and Mrs. Horne had just come down from upstairs.
When James entered the house, he was immediately met with the affectionate sight of his brother and sister-in-law, which made his heart skip a beat. The plots and plans he had overheard last night outside his mother’s apartment had infuriated him.
He worried his mother’s schemes would affect his brother and sister-in-law’s relationship. That’s why, after a night of painful, sleepless torment, he had rushed back to the Horne Family early in the morning. I need to see if their relationship has changed. Plus, there’s another urgent matter. For Mother’s sake, I have to plead with Older Brother before he does anything. Even if she’s at fault a thousand times over, she’s still my mother. I hope he won’t harm her. He must already know about her schemes and have them under control. So why hasn’t he acted yet? What’s his motive? All these thoughts troubled him, causing him pain and embarrassment.
"Grandmother, Big Brother, Sister-in-law."
James brushed aside his concerns, mustered a slight smile, and greeted them as he walked in. As soon as he sat down next to the elderly lady, he began to complain, "Grandmother, it’s raining, and my hair is all wet."
The elderly lady put down her newspaper, looked at him with a kind smile, then turned her head and instructed Aunt Mei, "Bring a clean towel."
Aunt Mei turned to leave and soon came back with a clean towel. The elderly lady took the towel and lovingly dried the rainwater from James’ hair. She also wiped his handsome face, all the while making a meaningful remark, "If you didn’t sleep well, you should sleep more. Rainwater is cold; being drenched can easily cause a cold."
It was clear she knew James had intentionally let himself get rained on to clear his mind.
James laughed. Besides my brother, Grandmother is the sharpest and most cunning in this family, he thought.
"Where’s Adele?" Glades, holding Julia’s hand, took a seat opposite the elderly lady and asked casually.
James could also be detached at times, but his nonchalance was far different from Glades’. In Glades’ aloofness, there was an authority that forbade defiance, as if he were an Emperor, controlling the fate of all. His innate leadership charm made many submit to him; of course, behind his back, envy ate at them like decay.
