Chapter 540: Chapter 540_1

Julia Bluen stood still, watching James Horne hurriedly get into the red Audi. As James got into the car, he couldn’t help but cast a reluctant glance back at her. Seeing her expression unchanged, her complexion the same, and her eyes clear, James suddenly felt like a joke. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

What did his deep affection for her matter? She had never had a place for him in her eyes. Not in the past, not now, nor in the future. Even without his older brother’s presence, she would still not love him.

Seeing the Rolls-Royce returning in the distance, James’s eyes once again flashed with uncontrollable emotions. He stepped on the gas pedal, racing towards the Rolls-Royce.

However, when the two cars were very close, he instinctively stopped and rolled down the window. Smiling at Glades Horne in the back seat, he called out, "Big Brother, you’re back."

Glades Horne also rolled down his window, gazing at him with chilly indifference. That inscrutable look seemed to pierce right to James’s heart, making James, who had just confessed his feelings, involuntarily bristle. He worried that the scene his shrewd older brother might have witnessed would cause a misunderstanding.

"You just got back. Why are you leaving again?" Glades Horne asked coldly.

Rebecca Hughes, after being treated roughly by James Horne, wasn’t angry, just somewhat baffled. She felt that James was acting a bit strange when he saw Julia. For instance, she never heard him call Julia "Sister-in-law," and his words, though casual, carried a hint of concern. Also, when Julia said she was James’s girlfriend, James had suddenly become hostile and shoved Rebecca roughly into her own car.

James said his heart belonged to another? Which woman could make him fall in love? If he indeed had a woman he was devoted to, why hadn’t he made a move? Still a bachelor at twenty-nine.

Rebecca didn’t dwell on it. She currently saw James purely as a friend and wasn’t particularly interested in his romantic affairs.

"Julia, I’m leaving now. Goodbye! Visit me when you’re free," Rebecca said warmly, waving to Julia before starting the engine, intending to leave.

"Come over and visit often when you have time," Julia replied with a smile, the two of them feeling like they’d known each other for ages.

Rebecca waved again and then drove her car away from the other end of the Horne Family’s entrance, maneuvering around the Horne brothers’ cars. Indeed, with one brother arriving and the other attempting to depart, their two vehicles had blocked the driveway.

James Horne was still facing his respected older brother. He forced a smile and explained, "I suddenly remembered an important engagement, so I don’t plan on having dinner at home. Big Brother, I’ll be off now. I can’t keep them waiting."

With that, he rolled up the window.

Glades Horne didn’t say anything further.

He saw his beloved wife standing at the villa’s entrance, smiling as she looked in his direction.

The Bodyguards quickly drove the car to the front of the villa. Julia, smiling, walked over and opened the car door for Glades Horne. As his tall frame emerged from the car, Julia’s gentle hands reached for his collar, straightening it and adjusting his tie before she said with a smile, "You’re back. I’ve been waiting for you for a little while."

She had been busy attending parties for the past few days and hadn’t yet experienced what it felt like to wait for her husband to come home. Tonight, she wasn’t going out. In the evening, she’d said she wanted to take a walk, but she was actually waiting by the front door for her husband’s return.

While waiting, she appeared very composed, as if merely out for a casual stroll. In reality, her mind was racing with questions: Why hasn’t Glades returned yet? Are the Bodyguards driving carefully enough? I hope nothing happened on the road.

It wasn’t until she saw the Rolls-Royce that she heaved a deep sigh of relief, feeling the knot of worry in her chest finally loosen.

It was only then that she truly understood what it meant to be on tenterhooks.

"Yes, I’m back. Am I late? Sorry, I got a bit tied up with work this afternoon. Don’t stand out here waiting next time; you’ll get cold," Glades Horne said, taking off his suit jacket and draping it over Julia’s shoulders.

Pulling the jacket he’d placed on her tighter, Julia willingly snuggled into his embrace. He put his arm around her, and they walked towards the villa.

The sky hadn’t completely darkened, but the streetlights were already fully illuminated.

The aroma of dinner cooking wafted from inside the house.

After they had taken a few steps, Glades Horne suddenly said in a low voice, "Honey, wait a moment. I have a gift for you in the car. I’ll go get it." He then released his arm from her waist and turned back towards the car. The Bodyguards, who were about to drive the vehicle into the villa grounds, saw him returning and quickly halted.

Glades Horne went to the car’s rear door, opened it, and took out an exquisite garment bag.

Julia turned and stood where she was, watching him walk back with the elegant bag in his hand.

"Honey, this is for you," Glades Horne said, handing the bag to Julia. His eyes twinkled, a fervent glint in them.

"What is it?" Julia asked. Noticing his slightly unusual expression, she took the bag and eagerly started to open it. Just as she was about to pull out the gift, Glades hugged her tighter and whispered affectionately in her ear, "Don’t look now; there are people around. Wait until we’re back in our room with the door closed. I picked this out especially for you, for tonight."

His words made Julia even more intensely curious; she wished she could pull the clothes out of the bag that very instant.

After dinner, Julia couldn’t wait to return to their room on the second floor.
