They say that when two people loathe each other, they don't even need to see one another; hearing each other's voice is enough to breed mutual disgust.

Mrs. Alwin Ruiz could never truly accept Rachel Bailey, so the sound of Rachel's voice was enough to stir her aversion.

"No," Rachel answered honestly.

Glades Horne had called Hansen Ruiz, and the two had apparently gone off to handle some matter.

Before Hansen left, he had told her to wait at home for him, saying he would return to take her out for a meal.

It was also because she knew Hansen was with Glades that she had called Julia Bluen to get some fresh air and relax.

"Who are you with? Is it a man or a woman? Rachel, let me tell you, if you dare to do anything behind Hansen's back that betrays him, watch out, I'll skin you!" Mrs. Alwin Ruiz's tone became sharp and spiteful as soon as she heard Rachel was not with Hansen, as if Rachel not being with him meant she must be doing something to betray him.

Rachel's face immediately darkened.

Her mother-in-law was like a dog that couldn't change its habit of eating shit; possessing a glossy exterior, an esteemed status, and a warm, cheerful smile, yet she was as mean-spirited as a vicious landlady. Rachel truly couldn't think of better words to describe her mother-in-law.

"Mom, I think I have the freedom to decide who I spend my time with. I'm with friends; do I have to report that to you as well? Furthermore, not being with Hansen doesn't mean I'm doing something to betray him. Mom, I would ask for the least bit of respect from you."

"Let's not discuss respect right now. Come back immediately and open the door for me! Otherwise, I'll have Floyd Thomas break it down. That's it!" Mrs. Alwin Ruiz snapped before hanging up.

Her car was parked in front of Hansen Ruiz's villa; she hadn't even gotten out. Seeing the villa gates securely locked, she didn't call Hansen but called Rachel instead.

Floyd Thomas, sitting in the driver's seat, unconsciously furrowed his brows upon hearing the conversation between the Madam and the Young Madam. If the Young Master heard the Madam's tone, he'd likely explode in anger again.

The back seat of the car was piled high with things Mrs. Alwin Ruiz had brought, all prepared for Hansen, including his favorite foods and items he liked. Mrs. Alwin Ruiz now regarded her daughter-in-law, Rachel Bailey, as her enemy, always looking to best her and win her son back. That's why, after the New Year, she had promptly gathered all of Hansen's favorite food and items and hurried to T City, hoping to get closer to Hansen.

Glaring at the phone, which was now emitting a busy signal, Rachel scoffed. "She only knows how to scold me. As soon as her son comes back, she acts like a saint." Her relationship with her mother-in-law was even worse than Julia Bluen's with Mila Anderson when Julia had first married into the Horne Family.

Although Mila Anderson hadn't initially liked Julia, it was because of Ruby Bluen. Mila wasn't as sharp and domineering as Mrs. Alwin Ruiz. However, Julia came from a respectable background, and Mila had to consider the Bluen Family to a certain extent. Moreover, Glades's status within the Horne Family was far more influential than Hansen's in the Ruiz Family.

So Julia was much luckier than Rachel.

"Julia, stop at that intersection ahead. I need to go home first; my mother-in-law is here," Rachel said, putting away her phone and turning to Julia Bluen with an apologetic expression.

Julia Bluen nodded; she was aware of the strained relationship between Rachel and her mother-in-law.

The mother-in-law and daughter-in-law dynamic has always been a tricky issue, and she hoped her friend could improve their relationship as she had. Thinking about it, she herself had improved the relationship with her mother-in-law thanks to the baby in her belly. If her friend also got pregnant, could that improve the relationship with her mother-in-law?

As if she'd read Julia Bluen's mind, Rachel Bailey chuckled. She glanced at Mila Anderson in the back seat, but in the end, she didn't voice the words she was thinking. Even if she were pregnant, given Mrs. Alwin Ruiz's snobbish and autocratic nature, she would probably acknowledge the grandchild but not the daughter-in-law.

At the upcoming intersection, Julia Bluen stopped the car to let Rachel Bailey out. After exiting the vehicle, Rachel courteously said to Mila Anderson, "Auntie, goodbye."

Julia reminded her of a few things and then drove away.

Rachel Bailey hailed a taxi and rushed home.

On the ride back, she thought it was about time she bought a car of her own. Hansen Ruiz could give her one, but she preferred to buy it with the money she earned herself. Looking at her current savings, she could afford a Philip for around one hundred thousand.

Fifteen minutes later, Rachel Bailey returned to the home that now belonged to her and Hansen Ruiz, located in the Waterfront New Village in South Hill District.

Mrs. Alwin Ruiz was already growing very impatient.

After paying the taxi fare, Rachel approached Mrs. Alwin Ruiz's car. Bending slightly, she spoke through the car window, first greeting her, "Mom, I'm back."

Mrs. Alwin Ruiz opened the car door and elegantly emerged. Her movements were graceful, but her tone, laced with a scoff and an air of superiority, was in stark contrast. "Don't call me Mom. I'm not your mother. I never acknowledged you as my daughter-in-law."

Rachel Bailey stood up straight, facing her, motionless.

Seeing her stand still, Mrs. Alwin Ruiz couldn't help but growl, "What are you standing there for? Go open the door."

Rachel Bailey crossed her arms, appearing quite at ease, and said lightly, "Sorry, that's my home."

"What?"

Mrs. Alwin Ruiz's face darkened as she said irritably, "What do you mean, your home? It's my son's."

"It's also my husband's."

"Your husband is my son, and you are my daughter-in-law! How dare you not let me, your mother-in-law, enter the house? What are you trying to imply?" Mrs. Alwin Ruiz demanded, losing her composure quickly around Rachel Bailey and puffing up like a bantam.

"But you said I'm not your daughter-in-law," Rachel Bailey replied coolly.

Mrs. Alwin Ruiz found herself at a loss for words. From their first encounter, she knew Rachel Bailey was sharp-tongued and fearless. Now that they were married, she thought of herself as the mother-in-law, the elder, and that Rachel Bailey wouldn't dare talk back to her, yet unexpectedly...

Seeing Mrs. Alwin Ruiz look chagrined, Rachel Bailey smiled faintly. She looked towards the car and said to Mrs. Alwin Ruiz, "Mom, you have so many things in your car. Do you need help bringing them in?" Considering this was Hansen Ruiz's mother—her own mother-in-law—Rachel proactively offered her an out.
