Chapter 425: Chapter 425: Meeting the Parents (2)_1

There were also geese, and black pigeons flew all over the rooftop.

In front of the house, besides the crowd of people, animal dung was everywhere.

Hansen Ruiz’s eyes widened in disbelief.

The Isuzu driver who followed him was even more shocked and exclaimed, "Wow! What kind of household is this? So poor? Wearing patched clothes? It’s been over twenty years since the era of patches! With so many animals, couldn’t they make a fortune by selling them?"

Her dad really went to great lengths, Rachel Bailey chuckled to herself. He probably borrowed old clothes from all the elders in the village. And these little animals, he likely borrowed them from several nearby households too, right? Even this house... well, it was the old ancestral home from decades ago, long uninhabited and now just used for storing firewood. To stage this play, her parents must have rallied the entire village to help clean up first thing in the morning, hadn’t they?

Outwardly, she nonchalantly opened the car door and got out.

"Yo, Rachel’s back! Hey Uncle, Rachel’s back! Your Rachel came back in a car with four wheels and even brought a boyfriend home!" the villagers said, laughing as they saw Rachel get out of the car. One woman even shouted at the top of her lungs towards the house.

Hansen Ruiz, who got out of the car after her, winced at the woman’s loud voice. He really regretted not wearing earplugs.

"Young man, come, have a seat. I’m Rachel’s Aunt Thirteen," the loud-voiced woman said enthusiastically, moving forward to pull Hansen into a seat.

Aunt Thirteen? Did Rachel’s father have that many brothers? Hansen Ruiz wondered. But my investigation showed Rachel’s father only had one brother, and their family had built a modern house. How had it turned into this shabby, tile-roofed shack? I worry a place like this might collapse if I just sit down for a moment.

However, Hansen Ruiz didn’t dare to say much. He quickly put on his usual warm smile and reached out his hand to Aunt Thirteen. "Aunt Thirteen, hello." 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

Aunt Thirteen laughed heartily and sized him up from head to toe, her gaze as invasive as if she wanted to strip him bare to check if he was really a man. When she saw him extending his hand, she too reached out. Her hands, calloused from long-term labor, made Hansen’s scalp tingle. Just as she was about to shake his hand, she noticed a hen pass by. She then grabbed at the hen, saying she was checking if it had laid any eggs. Only moments later did she remember to shake hands with him.

Catching Rachel’s barely concealed amusement from the corner of his eye, Hansen gritted his teeth. Dirty is dirty, so be it, he thought. Even if Aunt Thirteen’s hands have manure on them, she’s Rachel’s aunt. I have to show her respect. With that, Hansen regained his composure and warmly shook Aunt Thirteen’s hand.

The other villagers also stood up, offering simple and honest laughs, eager to shake hands with Hansen. Each of their hands was also filthy. However, unlike Aunt Thirteen, they weren’t as enthusiastic and didn’t introduce themselves. After Hansen had shaken hands with all of them, his own hands had become dirty as well.

After shaking hands, the villagers sat back down, continuing to smoke, drink tea, chat, and curse. Hansen found their crude conversation amusing and refreshing; he certainly didn’t look down on them.

They were mostly talking about their own family matters.

Gossip! was the first thought that flashed through Hansen’s mind. These people gossip like a bunch of old women.

At this moment, a couple, also dressed in worn clothes, came out of the house.

"Rachel, you’re back."

"Dad, Mom," Rachel Bailey saw the couple, immediately smiled, and called out. Then she pulled Hansen Ruiz over to them.

Rachel skillfully stepped over the animal droppings, while Hansen, being pulled along by her, did not possess such finesse. In an instant, his expensive leather shoes were covered in animal feces.

"These are my dad and mom. Mom and Dad, this is my boyfriend I’ve told you about, Hansen Ruiz," Rachel introduced.

Rachel’s father didn’t react much, while her mother just chuckled and nodded at Hansen without saying a word.

"Uncle, Auntie, hello." Seeing that Rachel’s parents appeared younger than his own, Hansen addressed them as such.

Rachel’s father walked past him towards a table by the front door, where the villagers were smiling and inviting Hansen over for tea.

"You chat with the uncles first. I’ll go inside," Rachel said, actually leaving Hansen mercilessly with the villagers.

Hansen smiled at everyone, turned around, and went back to his car to take out all the gifts from the back seat.

To his great surprise, and even more astonishingly, those gifts were snatched up by the uncles in no time. The expensive liquor was promptly opened—two bottles at that—and they started drinking it, passing cups around.

Another villager excitedly ran to a small shop in the nearby village to buy a bag of cream peanuts, saying it was to go with the drinks.

These people... honestly, how can they be so ill-mannered? Hansen thought. All these gifts were for my future in-laws. Still, never mind. They’re all Rachel’s relatives, so if they want to drink, let them. For Rachel’s sake, I can accept anything.

"Oh, these flowers are quite nice! I’ll take a pot home for my daughter to enjoy."

After grabbing the gifts, those people, along with some newly arrived villagers, even moved all the flowers and fishing gear from the back of the Isuzu. In the blink of an eye, the fully loaded Isuzu was completely empty.

The Isuzu driver’s eyes were bulging, wider than a bell’s. He kept looking at Hansen, probably questioning what kind of family background his girlfriend came from.

That behavior was clearly akin to robbery!

"Mr. Ruiz, please have some tea," Rachel’s father said mildly, placing a bowl filled seven-tenths full with mountain tea in front of Hansen.

Hansen hurriedly thanked him and carefully sat down on a chair. He didn’t know whether the chair was too fragile or if he was too heavy. Despite sitting down with great care, the chair couldn’t bear his weight and collapsed. He suddenly found himself on the ground, looking rather awkward.
