Progenitor Vampire: I Have Many Skills!-Chapter 687: Dance Ceremony, a place to show off (4)
They smiled sheepishly. If Mr. Richard started bragging about his guests... then they would all be closing their mouths, because he practically sponsored positions 2, 4, 5... 11, being the one with the most sponsorships.
Richard noticed their concerns, so he laughed loudly before speaking.
"Don’t worry, I’m not here to brag. Can’t you see? I didn’t bring any of my boys. But I did bring someone else, a youngster I’ve been secretly raising for years and who finally wants to participate this time. He’s young, but he’s good, and he doesn’t belong to my clan," he said.
Everyone immediately felt drawn to Richard and wondered, "Who is he?"
Richard stepped aside and pointed to the young man behind him.
"Little Bruno, would you like to introduce yourself?"
Bruno was an expressionless person who wore dark clothes, was quite thin, and paler than normal. His figure seemed to get lost in the crowd of people who naturally drew attention to their bodies.
He took a quiet step forward and bowed.
"Greetings, elders and leaders of the city. I am Bruno, and I am on tile number 12. I am 20 years old."
Twenty years old!
Everyone looked at him in shock... So young?
He did look very young, but twenty years old and already so good?
They remembered him.
"He’s the one with the deadly arts... right? I saw him fight before; he’s strong," said one of them, and the others nodded in agreement.
"Haha, he’s a talent from our city that I rescued from the orphanage many years ago, and this is the first time he will spread his wings to prove his talent in front of the young people of his generation. I hope he will be well received."
It was impressive to see someone so young participate and get so far in this tournament, which is why this young man had caught everyone’s attention.
Just when everyone thought that the main events had already been served, suddenly a voice rose...
"As expected of Mr. Richard, he has always managed to stand out above everyone else in this city and has proven that he not only has a talent for martial arts, but also an excellent eye and exceptional parenting skills," exclaimed one of the city’s most prominent and wealthy men, Kaiden Collins, of the Collins family of the hotel business, with genuine respect.
Richard looked at him and smiled slightly. "Your guests managed to displace one of mine; I must say I’m proud of your good eye this time. You really gave me a run for my money."
Kaiden frowned. ’He’s speaking in plural?’
.
While attention was focused on those guys who were showing off their guests and putting them in the spotlight, Lennon approached Matthew, slipping through the crowd.
It wouldn’t be long before they called him over, and he would have to introduce his guest, although surely more than one person here would know him. They are powerful people; they have their fingers in everything.
Lennon found Matthew by the food tables.
"Young sir..." He prepared to greet him, but Matthew didn’t let him.
"They want to kill you," Matthew said immediately.
Lennon was perplexed and tensed up. "Who?" he asked.
Matthew shook his head. "I don’t have any information, just some evidence and several suspects," he said, and showed him the elephant needle.
"Among those who approached you a while ago, one of them intended to kill you with this," he said.
"Elephant Needle!" Lennon felt every hair on his body stand on end, and a chill run down his spine. "A professional assassin?"
Undoubtedly, it had to be one of them. But recently, assassins in these regions weren’t operating much for fear of what had happened to a certain criminal organization in the Dark Kingdom.
The power of Matthew Dietrich and his people was overwhelming, and their impeccable strategies in battle had scared most nearby organizations into staying quiet.
’Maybe this isn’t just a normal mission.’ Lennon realized. The pay must have been high for one of them to mobilize despite the threats, although he didn’t know if nearby organizations handled this type of weapon.
But when faced with a mission like that or very high payments, the suspects were few and far between. He was a smart man.
He immediately thought of his competitor.
Kaiden Collins!
If there was anyone in town willing to pay absurd amounts of money to hire those people who recently didn’t want to move, it could only be him.
And if it weren’t him, it would be one of the powerful clans; they are the only ones with that much money available.
"I see you have an idea, and it’s the same one I’m thinking of," Matthew said suddenly. "Who is your competitor?" he asked.
Just then, Kaiden appeared before everyone present, and Lennon stared at him.
"It’s him," he said, then looked at Matthew. "Can you tell me who was wearing that?"
"He’s a human," Matthew assured him.
"A human?" His eyes flashed with strange doubt, but his mind cleared in an instant. "The Dark Guild!" he exclaimed softly, and for a brief moment, he trembled...
"You know them?" Matthew was genuinely surprised by that fact.
It wasn’t as if the Dark Guild was very visible. Even Ava assured him that they were usually known by 17 other names, never by their original name.
But this guy knew right away.
’No...’ He frowned; his heart was pounding. He had to calm down. But he couldn’t.
If Kaiden Collins hired the Dark Guild, then his target couldn’t be just him. And if it wasn’t Kaiden, but someone else... What was the plan?
"What’s going on? What do you know? I’m curious."
Lennon shook his head. "I don’t want to get you into trouble, Young Master. I’ll just tell you that the Dark Guild recently approached me for strange reasons. I reported it to the elders, but my message seems to have disappeared. Otherwise, I hope you won’t ask; understand that it’s for your own good."
Matthew stared at him thoughtfully for several minutes.
Still, he simply shrugged and nodded.
"I’ll protect you while you’re my host in this tournament, so you don’t need to worry. Still, you should think about fixing those problems. The people of the Dark Guild are more dangerous than you think," he said.
Although Lennon had questions, a voice caught his attention and put him in the spotlight.
"Haha, this time my guest is special. I had to go to great lengths and use my direct contacts to become his host, but as I expected, it has paid off, so I am satisfied," said Kaiden Collins, stepping aside.
"Please, our White Edge City and Dark Spring City have always been allies, so I hope you treat him well. He’s a good guy," said Kaiden, introducing his guest.
William of Dark Spring.
