Private Marriage, Secret Love-Chapter 83: Your Daughter Is an Abandoned Wife
What?
Ethan Lancaster reacted quickly. "Who did you say the child’s father is?"
"Or you can go outside and discuss it."
Ethan Lancaster slapped the man on the head. "I told you to mind your own damn business. Get out."
The man instantly realized this was a huge misunderstanding. He felt that even if he had two mouths, he wouldn’t be able to explain his way out of this. He quickly grabbed the woman’s wrist and dragged her out. "Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go."
Raina Reddington felt a suffocating pressure in her chest. "Ethan Lancaster, what do you think this hospital is? A place for you to clean up your messes?"
He pointed toward the door. "That woman has nothing to do with me."
"Please leave. I have to work."
"They’re trying to set you up, can’t you see? Anyone who wanted to could easily frame you for medical malpractice. Raina Reddington, you really don’t know what’s good for you!" After saying this, Ethan Lancaster turned and stalked out.
In the span of just a few sentences, there was too much for Raina to process. After a moment’s hesitation, she got up and walked to the door.
The man was waiting dejectedly in the reception hall. Seeing Ethan Lancaster approach, he hurried forward. "Fourth Master."
"Are you all nuts? Can’t you see I’m pissed off? All you know how to do is cause trouble for me."
Raina stood where she was, not stepping out. She heard the man trying to explain, "Mr. Fairchild told me to do this. He was just trying to help you."
"He says one word about helping me, and you let him use you like a pawn? Why didn’t he come himself?"
The two men walked out, one after the other. Afraid of being seen by Ethan Lancaster, Raina quickly returned to her office.
Cameron Fairchild liked to do things in a simple and crude manner. Raina Reddington’s professional skill was undeniable, and since her work ethic was impeccable, he would just create some trouble for her. When she couldn’t handle it anymore, she would have no choice but to ask Ethan Lancaster for help, and wouldn’t she then have to obediently move back to The Verdant Garden?
That evening after work, Raina Reddington returned home to see Zoe Scott rushing downstairs. "Raina, you’re back."
"Yeah."
Zoe Scott was holding a document. "How about you run an errand for me to Vexler Tower? Your dad needs a document urgently."
"Is Dad not home again?"
"That’s right, he left first thing in the morning."
Raina took the file folder from Zoe Scott. "Don’t worry, I’ll take it to him right now." 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"You must be hungry, right? Why don’t you grab a bite to eat first?"
"I’m fine." Raina turned and walked to the entryway, changed her shoes, and left.
For Ronan Reddington, the greatest regret was that no one in the family could take over his business. Raina Reddington had no interest in company matters, and as for Mia Reddington, she was completely unreliable.
Raina drove over, but it was rush hour, so traffic was inevitable. When she finally made it to Vexler Tower, she found a random spot to park her car.
Clutching the file folder, she rushed to the elevators. The moment the doors opened, Raina charged inside.
Ethan Lancaster’s shoulder was bumped. He frowned and glanced back, not expecting to see Raina Reddington.
She saw him too, but she seemed to be in a great hurry. She jabbed a button on the panel, and the doors impatiently closed.
Raina arrived on the fourth floor of the building. As soon as she stepped out of the elevator, she saw Ronan Reddington waiting not far away.
"Dad."
Ronan Reddington’s expression finally relaxed. "Did you bring it?"
"I did. Here." She handed the file folder to Ronan Reddington.
"You should head back now." After tossing out this sentence, Ronan Reddington strode quickly toward a nearby office.
Raina started to leave, but the soundproofing of the door was terrible. Combined with the loud voice of the person on the other side, an impatient and condescending tone came straight through the door panel.
"There’s no way we can agree on this price, and you’re not willing to budge..."
Ronan Reddington seemed to be taking a very humble stance. "Please, look at this information first. The product quality is different; I really can’t offer such a low price."
"No need to look. Times have changed, Mr. Reddington. It’s not like you don’t know your family’s current situation. You should just sign if there’s any profit to be made at all."
Raina stood at the door. Although she didn’t understand the world of business, she could still tell the difference between good and bad.
Ethan Lancaster got out of the elevator and walked straight toward Raina. As she leaned against one side of the doorframe to eavesdrop, he leaned against the other side and watched her.
Raina jumped when she snapped back to her senses. The discussion inside was still going on. "You should also know that our Reddington Family has the Lancaster Family behind us, so you have nothing to worry about..."
"Oh, give me a break," the other person said with utter disdain. "Everyone knows your daughter is just a decoration. That Fourth Master of the Lancaster family is a real player. If she had any say, would you still be struggling like this? You’d have retired long ago to enjoy your golden years."
’Player’ was hardly a compliment. It bluntly painted him as both a scoundrel and a lecher.
"No, those are just rumors. Ethan is very good to my Raina. They even went home together for the New Year."
"Then why didn’t Mr. Lancaster stop your esteemed wife when she slapped the Young Madam in public? From what I see, your daughter probably gets beaten regularly in the Lancaster household. And oh, what about that one banquet? The Young Madam stripped the clothes off the Fourth Master’s mistress. What a spectacular show."
Ronan Reddington’s face paled, but the mocking laughter in the office didn’t stop.
"It’s one thing for your daughter to be sponging off the Lancaster Family by herself, but are you planning on having her support your whole family on their dime too?"
Ethan Lancaster glanced at Raina Reddington’s expression. There was no suppressed anger, just calm indifference. Ronan Reddington’s voice, heavy and forceful, boomed out from the office.
"My daughter doesn’t need to rely on the Lancaster Family. She has a good job. She’s a doctor."
"Oh, so impressive. I bet Mr. Lancaster arranged that job for her, didn’t he?"
’These people are so ridiculous,’ Raina thought. ’They’re here to talk business, so why are they dragging me into it?’
"She passed the exams on her own. Everything she’s achieved, she’s done by herself."
Suddenly, Raina’s eyes and nose began to sting. She had never heard Ronan Reddington say a single good word in her defense before. This was the first time.
Ethan Lancaster stared, lost in thought, at the shimmering moisture in her eyes. ’Others could say all those horrible things about her and she wouldn’t cry, but now her eyes are wet because of these two sentences. Is she hard-hearted, or soft-hearted?’
"Mr. Reddington, stop wasting time. Two points. Just tell us if you’ll yield or not."
Ethan Lancaster reached out and grabbed the doorknob. Seeing this, Raina quickly grabbed his wrist. She mouthed silently, "What are you doing?"
Ethan Lancaster shook off her hand, turned the knob, and pushed the door open. Raina quickly sidestepped out of sight.
"Dad," he said, taking two steps inside. "Have you reached an agreement?"
Ronan Reddington stared blankly at Ethan Lancaster. He propped himself up on the edge of the table and stood. "N-not yet."
The two men sitting across from Ronan Reddington shot to their feet. "So it’s Mr. Lancaster! Hello, hello."
They both extended their hands at the same time. Ethan Lancaster gave them a look and then glanced away. ’They’re calling me a player one minute and sucking up the next. Pathetic.’
"Raina and I are waiting for you to come home for dinner." Ethan Lancaster picked up the contract from the table and tossed it in front of the two men. "Hurry up. Sign it."
