Primordial Chaos Dragon Tower: Harem System-Chapter 1460: The Tenth Floor - The Planet Devourer (2)
The deeper Zareth and his team head into the planet, the more dangerous it gets, prompting them to understand just how important this mission is.
Everything is unstable to the point that just a slight distortion can cause the space around them to crack.
Thankfully, Ingrid and Elyndra are experts at using the Void and space magic. So slowly, they made their way toward the core of the planet, which happened to be located at the very center.
After 2 hours of flying, they came to a stop in front of a vast sea of water so dark and mysterious that none of them could see an inch beneath the outer layer, no matter how hard they tried.
"This doesn’t inspire confidence," Elyndra said, gazing at the dark water that stood still, almost as if it were being held in place by something.
"I can sense Necrotic Qi emanating from deep within this water," Zareth also said, and Elyndra nodded. As the only undead in the team, only they could sense the Necrotic Qi.
But that didn’t put a smile on their faces. If anything, sensing that the water had the same energy that all undead use made them frown. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
"This is not going to be an easy mission," he muttered before taking flight again. The mission remains the same.
"Why did you say that?" Ingrid asked, flying after him.
"Probably nothing. But the fact that the core of the planet is located here and that this water contains a large amount of Necrotic Qi makes me wonder if our opponent is also undead.
If that is the case, we can forget about beating it. There is just no way we can kill it if it can harness or, more accurately, devour the Necrotic Qi.
But as I said, it is probably nothing."
"Maybe you are right," Enkay, one of Uncle Drew’s Night Agents, said, flying alongside everyone. "Maybe this Necrotic Qi came about due to the planet’s core dying."
They decided to go with Enkay’s suggestion. That makes more sense. From the description of the mission, they know the core is dying, so maybe the water is being affected by the death Qi coming from it.
But even if they are going after an undead, the mere fact that Vexthra added Enkay to the mix meant that, regardless of how dangerous their opponent is, with the hell flame at his disposal, the mission will be completed with just a single death.
The hell flame has a property that makes it lethal even to undead beings.
It took a couple of hours, but they finally reached the core.
The moment they came within viewing distance of the core, they all stopped. That was because right at that moment, their opponent came into sight, and just a single glance made them all get goosebumps.
"What is that?" Ingrid couldn’t help but ask.
The monster they had to defeat is an abomination on a scale beyond imagination.
It is a very large, round monster with jagged, rotting skin filled with countless eyes. On one side of it, a large maw lined with teeth could be seen, menacing in every way.
But that isn’t even the scariest part. Extending from its body are dozens of tendrils, each ending with deadly razor-sharp spikes.
It is scary beyond measure, and that can be seen from their expressions. They are terrified, and that is perfectly normal. Anyone would be terrified.
"We have no choice but to battle and kill it. So, how about we come up with a battle strategy before it notices us?"
"Well, I think it did," Elyndra said, pointing at the abomination. Turning around, they all saw it had long seen them and was looking at them with hundreds of tiny eyes.
"I feel like calling it Vorath kind of humanizes it," Ingrid said before spinning her spear around. The battle will happen no matter how scared they are.
"Let’s focus more on killing it rather than wondering why it has a name," Zareth said before turning toward Enkay. "You and I will face it head-on and try not to get stabbed through by those pointy things.
Elyndra will use her affinity for space to help with movement, while Ingrid uses the void to create openings for us. As for Veydris, your job is to create a blind spot for us. So blind as many eyes as you can in one section of its body."
They nodded, while Veydris merely vanished into the void. He can’t speak, but he understood the assignment, so he got right on it.
Also, with him having a metallic body, there is no way he would be affected by the void, which was growing increasingly unstable by the second.
Elyndra retrieved a staff, and Enkay pulled out a scythe. Since things had gotten to this point, using his daggers wouldn’t help him or anyone.
"All right, let’s move out," Zareth said, taking to the sky. Since he is the only one with devourer abilities, he unleashed his strongest move from the start.
A large serpent appeared, and he jumped on its head, speeding toward Vorath, who sensed them long before they moved.
The massive serpent roared as it tore through the unstable space, its colossal body coiling and uncoiling with terrifying speed.
The black scales of the snake shimmered with a faint violet glow, and fragments of distorted space shattered in its wake. To win, he needed the first advantage, so every second counted.
Zareth stood firmly on its head, his curved spear absorbing so much devouring Qi while his eyes locked onto the abomination before him.
Vorath did not remain idle.
The countless eyes covering its bloated body snapped open all at once.
Then a low, guttural vibration spread across the sea of dark water, and the tendrils extending from its body twitched violently before shooting outward like harpoons.
They were directed at Enkay and Zareth.
"Incoming!" Elyndra shouted, alerting everyone before she waved her staff.
Space folded instantly.
The area around Zareth and Enkay twisted, and several of the incoming tendrils pierced nothing but warped air.
Still, not all were avoided. One spike grazed the serpent’s body, tearing away scales and releasing a burst of dark energy.
Zareth’s expression hardened in that instant, a very bad feeling creeping in.
He sensed right away that the abomination was not an easy target. Just a single attack gave the creeps.
He knew something had to happen, and thankfully, he had the perfect person for it.
"Ingrid," he called out, knowing Ingrid had what it takes to change the scene.
The void responded.
A surge of pure void energy erupted beneath Vorath, swallowing several tendrils and snapping them off entirely.
The severed ends wriggled violently before dissolving into black mist. Ingrid shot forward and vanished into the void immediately.
At the same time, Enkay used a movement technique to close the gap between him and Vorath. Its many eyes glared at him, releasing waves of pressure that slammed into his head.
The attack made him lose his sight for a moment.
The momentary loss of sight gave Vorath the opening to attack. A tendril moved forward, aiming for his chest. However, it reached nowhere since Elyndra used space magic to move Enkay farther back.
Zareth seized the moment to attack. The serpent opened its mouth, and from within, a dark beam shot forward, slamming into Vorath’s darkened skin.
The force pushed it back, but before it could stabilize itself, the void opened, and Veydris appeared, his metallic body and long, jagged sword humming with energy.
He struck his sword forward once, but hundreds of arcs appeared, the majority of them cutting into the many eyes on its body.
But things didn’t end there. Ingrid, who vanished into the void, appeared, her spear thrusting toward a cluster of eyes Veydris had just blinded.
Since Veydris created the opening, taking advantage of it seems like the most logical thing to do.
However, she was forced to come to a halt when two tendrils coming from two different directions closed in on her, their deadly spikes aiming for her head and stomach.
"Watch out..."
