Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Explanation
"What?" The sound of the hairdryer made it hard for him to hear clearly.
Fu Yanshen saw that her hair was almost dry, turned off the hairdryer, and hooked her chin to lift her head.
A tear-stained little face appeared before his eyes.
Once the suppressed emotions got out of control, it was hard to compose oneself easily.
Mu Chenxi looked at the man before her with tears in her eyes, choking up as she asked him, "Fu Yanshen, why are you still so nice to me?"
Fu Yanshen was caught off guard by Mu Chenxi's tears, the hairdryer slipped from his grasp and fell to the ground.
He bent down to pick her up, sat down where she had just been sitting, and pulled her onto his lap, lifting his hand to wipe her tears, "You are my wife."
Mu Chenxi shook her head lightly, trying to escape his tenderness, but she was pinned to his lap by his grip on her waist and could not avoid it, only able to murmur weakly, "Stop being so nice to me!"
She would really miss it.
Determined to divorce him, she had really spent a long time building up her resolve in the hospital.
Fu Yanshen listened to Mu Chenxi's nonsensical words, a hint of helplessness flashed through his eyes, and his voice grew even softer, "What nonsense are you talking about?"
Seeing Mu Chenxi's tears not stopping, Fu Yanshen, who was not very good at comforting people, surprisingly coaxed her, "Stop crying."
The more she was comforted, the more it seemed like a switch was flipped, and her tears started falling like large beads unceasingly.
Fu Yanshen frowned slightly, watching the tears that got wiped away only to increase in number.
His hand stopped wiping the tears.
His long fingers moved down, pinching her chin, resorting to their usual intimate method that was very effective when he made her cry, he lowered his head and kissed her.
To seal her lips, to make her forget to cry.
Apart from in bed, he didn't like to see her cry at other times.
Hearing Mu Chenxi's sobs breaking through during Fu Yanshen's kiss,
She was so sad now, yet all he could think about was this.
Mu Chenxi thought of how enthusiastic Fu Yanshen had been about doing this with her over the years.
"Mmm—"
She shook her head from side to side, her unbroken hand slapping his shoulders, resisting furiously with raw emotion.
But once Fu Yanshen kissed her, his large hand settled on the back of her head, threading through her black hair, tightening his hold.
His kiss, just like him, was domineering and forceful, leaving her no way to escape.
Unable to struggle free, Mu Chenxi bit down hard in frustration.
When Fu Yanshen pulled back from the pain, Mu Chenxi saw his lip bitten open, and her heart clenched.
But quickly, she suppressed the pang of distress.
Biting her lip lightly, she watched Fu Yanshen with an air of grievance, accusing him word by word, "Fu Yanshen, the woman you love has come back, are you still so good to me, this substitute, just because you like my body?"
He didn't love her.
He just loved her body.
His kindness to her was all because he liked her body.
And she mistook it for love, falling deeper and deeper.

Even thinking of divorcing him made her heart ache, as if it was being forcibly carved out from her chest.
The warm lighting in the master bedroom softened Fu Yanshen's usually harsh features.
His lips where she'd bitten were bleeding, his tongue lightly swept across it, carrying away the blood, a rusty taste spreading between his lips and teeth, his eyes darkened a shade.
He looked down at the emotionally collapsing Mu Chenxi in his arms, amused and exasperated by her utter nonsense, and asked speechlessly, "Mu Chenxi, what in the world is going on in your head?"
A complete mess.
"You!"
Mu Chenxi blurted out.
Her head was full of him, of course!
Her heart and eyes were brimming with him.
After saying it out loud, she felt pathetic, "You and Gu Xiyang!"
The mention of Gu Xiyang again twisted Mu Chenxi's heart into a knot, filled with grievance and pain, her tears, which had just stopped, started to flow again.
"I saw it with my own eyes! You were rushing into the hospital with Gu Xiyang in your arms, all anxious. I was lying on the stretcher, in so much pain that I was losing consciousness, nearly dying, and you didn't even notice!"
"Fu Yanshen, the person you really love is Gu Xiyang, I'm just a substitute!"
The more Mu Chenxi spoke, the more heartbroken she became.
She was angry with herself for being so weak, and even angrier with Fu Yanshen for treating her this way.
Mu Chenxi felt so awful that she had nowhere to vent; she lowered her head and bit Fu Yanshen.
Her teeth sank deep into his flesh, and only when she tasted the iron tang of fresh blood did she come to her senses and let go.
Her gaze fell on the bite mark below his collarbone, a deep wound oozing blood.
He didn't cry out in pain, but she felt sorry first.
Mu Chenxi bit her lip hard, frustrated with her own weakness.
"Can I talk now?"
Fu Yanshen's hand was still firmly holding onto her still slender waist, his thumb brushing away the crimson at the corner of her mouth.
"What else is there to say." Mu Chenxi raised her head, her eyes red and swollen, looking at him.
"What, have you already convicted me?"
Fu Yanshen appeared calm and relaxed, his handsome face showing sincerity.
Mu Chenxi watched him, hesitating.
She couldn't help but think, with him being so forthright, could there be some misunderstanding?
She pursed her lips slightly, tilting her head up, her face expressionless, "Go ahead."
She still pathetically wanted to hear his explanation.
"Xiyuan and I have known each other since we were kids, and she has been very kind to me. Plus, her parents passed away early, and there's no one to take care of her. Yesterday, she had a gastric hemorrhage; it was critical, so she called me."
"Under those circumstances, shouldn't I have taken her to the hospital?"
Mu Chenxi didn't want to answer; instead, she bit her lip harder and asked coldly, "If you're just friends, would you be that worried about her?"
"Are you sure you saw clearly?"
With just a counter-question, Fu Yanshen stopped Mu Chenxi in her tracks.
Saw clearly?
Actually, she wasn't quite sure.
At that time, the pain had blurred her consciousness.
Was it truly what she saw, or had she imposed her presupposition onto Fu Yanshen, excessively fabricating his concern for Gu Xiyang?
Especially now, with Fu Yanshen looking at her so candidly, Mu Chenxi subconsciously leaned towards the possibility that she had been mistaken.
She couldn't hide her emotions; whatever she thought inside was written all over her face.
Fu Yanshen lifted his hand at the right time, gently comforting her by stroking her hair, "Yesterday was my fault, for not being with you when you were most in pain. It won't happen again."
Mu Chenxi's eyes reddened, "There will be a next time?"
"No, there won't be. From now on, I promise to put you first."
Fu Yanshen knew Mu Chenxi's emotions very well, and seeing her being placated, he kissed her palm gently.
Mu Chenxi still felt aggrieved, but having heard his explanation, she wasn't as angry as before. She withdrew her hand, saying sternly, "Be serious, I haven't finished asking yet?"
She was always easy to coax.
As long as the words came from him, she never doubted them.
But this time, the issue wasn't so easy to let go.
Fu Yanshen gestured for her to continue.
"That night you were drunk—when we were at that point, who was that 'I love you' for?"
