Chapter 91: Disaster That Is Pictionary

(Amaia)

Genuinely I am delighted that he knows about the band, it makes me smile. The way he agrees to play the song for me, melts my heart.

"I would appreciate that. Which other musicians do you enjoy?" I ask as we reach outside the common room and Mintaka opens the door, gesturing me to enter first.

"Mostly, I listen to any decent guitar player."

Entering our cosy common room I take a seat on the sofa. It’s empty apart from one senior. Hamada is her name if I am not wrong. She waves at us, lifting her head from the book she is reading.

"Hey!" I wave back.

"Hi!" Her eyes waver towards my companion. "Mintaka or Alnitak? Seriously I can never tell you guys apart," she jokingly laughs.

"Mintaka!" He answers quietly and she smiles before returning to her book. Mintaka flops himself on the nearby sofa and spreads his legs, almost lying down on it to get comfy.

I look around and find several board games stacked on the table. Getting up I approach the table and shuffle through them. They seem old and must have been passed down through generations after generations.

Seeing the Pictionary among them, I pull it out and take it to the round table in the middle of the room.

"Let’s play Pictionary until they arrive," I invite Mintaka but he doesn’t budge.

"Board games are not my jam, Alnitak and Kacir love them. They will enjoy playing with you," he answers, the gold in his eyes reflecting the shimmering light of the candles.

"Which games do you enjoy?" I ask, arranging the papers and pencils on the table.

"Physical ones like Moonball. We have a game coming up with Pegasus, and hopefully, we will crush them. We had a great training session today."

Moonball seems to be a big deal at Orion and I am excited for the game and see what all the hype is about.

"I am sure you guys will beat them. Can’t wait for the game."

The door opens, and our companions hurtle inside, carrying wine and some snacks they must have procured from the kitchen.

"We are back," Alnitak announces, showing me the huge bottles of wine he is holding.

Kacir is carrying a tray of snacks while Rahria has two additional bottles.

Hamada closes her book seeing us getting ready for a small party.

"Enjoy, guys. I will head to the dorm." She leaves her seat.

"Stay, drink with us," Alnitak invites her over. I get up to help him place bottles on the table.

"Nah! You guys enjoy it but wrap it up on time. Don’t incur the wrath of Sir Alnilam." She winks at us before exiting. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

"This shit was heavy. I am tired," Rahria just dumps the bottles on the table and drops herself on the carpeted floor near the table.

Kacir, on the other hand, carefully places the round wooden tray on the table, decorated with fruits, nuts, crackers, chocolates and to my utter delight, jellies as well.

"I made them add these, especially for you," he kindly says to me, pointing at the jellies.

Broadly, I smile at him, "Thank you!"

"And I brought you chocolates and wine," Alnitak smugly says, planting his huge self right beside me.

"Thank you, too." I take a small bow at him, making him laugh.

"Pass the wine bottle," Mintaka dryly says from behind his brother.

Picking up one bottle Alnitak tosses it towards his twin. He neatly catches it. Opening the cork with a pop sound, he tosses it away and takes a big gulp of the red liquor.

Rahria is busy doing just that while Kacir asks, "Are we playing Pictionary?"

Picking up a jelly bowl he offers it to me.

Accepting, I answer, "I was hoping to, if you guys want."

"I am out. I am going to just relax on the sofa with my wine." Rahria grabs one bottle and climbs on the sofa with her legs crossed underneath her.

"Well, I am playing," Alnitak says like an excited child.

He grabs a paper and a pencil, both appear tiny in his gargantuan hands. The hands that have already done unspeakable things to me.

’Not here, Amaia,’ I remind myself, filling my mouth with some jelly.

"Can I go first?" Kacir nervously asks.

"Of course!" I encourage him, and he grabs one of the cards, which has a list of five things from which he can choose to draw.

Alnitak turns the small hourglass that has 2-3 minutes equal sand that begins to drip down.

I watch him as he begins to draw, painfully slowly like creating a masterpiece.

"Good luck, you will need all the patience in the world," Rahria calls out with a chuckle, followed by Mintaka and Alnitak’s guffaws.

Confusedly, I glance in their direction and then back at Kacir, who is still focused on a small part, and we have no clue what he is drawing, except it’s something dome-shaped.

"A dome?" I call out and he shakes his head and continues to work on the same line.

"Kacir is known for his art skills, but at a snail’s pace, you will see," Alnitak amusedly whispers in my ear, and I painfully watch Kacir draw the same line for the next 2 and a half minutes.

Alnitak and I say a bunch of stuff but it’s none of that. The time ends and Kacir lets out a short breath.

"Sorry, it took me such a long time to perfect the upper line. It was an eye." Picking up the card, he shows me, and I want to facepalm myself.

Others just laugh loudly, clearly knowing his habit while Kacir offers a sheepish smile.

Alnitak chugs down a large portion of wine and takes the card. Reading it with his narrowed eyes, he places it upside down and bites down on his poking tongue before starting to draw.

Kacir flips the hourglass.

"This will be even more fun," Mintaka lazily chuckles. My eyes dart towards him, and I find a mischievous smile on his tender-looking, wet lips. He has angled the bottle on the arm of the sofa.

Turning my attention back, I am left horrified to see the worst-looking drawing I have ever seen. It looks like insects with black ink on their legs have randomly crawled all over the page.

"Pathways?" I guess.

"Road network?" Kacir hopefully asks.

"No, no." He shakes his head and continues to draw.

"Doodles?" I hope so, and he shakes his head again.

"End of the fucking world?" I frustratedly say, seeing his horrible drawing skills.

We make a bunch of other guesses but the time ends.

He holds up the card. "It was a pond with fish. Can’t you guys see the ripples, lily pads and fish swimming?"

Literally, I facepalm myself.

"In what world is this a pond? It looks like some insects died after crawling," Kacir says with a shake of his head.

"Yeah! They were horrified by Ali’s drawing skills," Mintaka teases and Alnitak just pokes his tongue out at his brother.

"It’s not that bad. Right, Amaia?" He hopefully asks me.

’No, it was horrendous,’ I think to myself, but I don’t have the heart to say it when he is watching me with such puppy eyes.
