Possessed No More: The True Star Returns to Claim Her Throne-Chapter 126: Director Chenning’s New Drama
’Right now, I’m just a substitute for that person, watching over her!’
’How could I refuse her?’
Too bad Riley Perry didn’t give him a chance to think. Her slender arms wrapped around his neck. "Oh, come on, hurry up! Carry me back to my room, I’m so tired. If you don’t want to, then get someone else to do it!"
Eric Sinclair... ’She wants someone else to carry her? In her dreams!’
"Alright, alright, stop shouting. I’ll carry you back to your room now."
With that, he slid one arm under Riley Perry’s thighs and the other around her shoulders, lifting her into his arms.
’She’s so... soft...’
Carefully holding her, he maneuvered out of the car. Riley Perry started giving orders again. "Grab my purse. I’ll need it."
Eric Sinclair was speechless but had Sebastian Sinclair bring the purse over and hang it around his neck.
Then, carrying Riley Perry, he hurried into the villa. The elevator stopped on the third floor. Eric Sinclair carried her into the room that had been prepared for her. "Do you... want to take a shower before bed?"
Nestled in his arms, Riley Perry said listlessly, "You can wash me."
Eric Sinclair stumbled, shocked by Riley Perry’s audacity. Mortified, he strode a few steps forward and tossed her onto the bed. Then he raised his hand and gave her a light slap on the bottom. "Behave yourself!"
The slap jolted Riley Perry sober. She stared at Eric Sinclair in disbelief. "Why did you hit me?"
Eric Sinclair felt his hand burning. The dim glow from the bedside lamp hid the faint blush on his face. Questioned by Riley Perry, an apology tumbled out of his mouth. "Sorry, I didn’t mean to. You should go take a shower yourself. I’m going back to my room now."
With that, he walked stiffly out of Riley Perry’s room.
Riley Perry was baffled. ’What the hell was that?’
’Why does it feel like this guy is getting weirder and weirder? What’s his problem?’
She glanced at the time. It was already 5:30 a.m. ’Why bother showering?’ She cast a Cleaning Technique and went straight to sleep.
While she slept soundly, sleep was the last thing on Eric Sinclair’s mind. He was completely restless and conflicted. His head was filled with images of Riley Perry: her stretching her arms out to him coquettishly, her taking liberties with him, and... the exquisite feeling of that slap...
’I think I’m going crazy!’
’No, I can’t keep thinking about this. I need to find something to distract myself.’
And so, the executives who managed his company became the unlucky victims.
They were woken up at the crack of dawn by their rarely-seen President for a video conference that lasted a full three hours. He bombarded them with one tricky question after another, leaving them completely overwhelmed.
It felt like they now had enough work to keep them busy for the next year.
...
Riley Perry slept until eleven. After freshening up, she turned on her phone, which immediately started buzzing with notifications.
She opened her messages and saw one from her mom: "We’re coming to Dragonspire on October 1st. Remember to pick us up." The message also included their approximate arrival time and which train station in Dragonspire they’d be at.
Another was from Director Quinn. The message was simple: "Call me back."
Riley Perry replied to her mom first. She was thrilled to hear that all three of them were coming to Dragonspire and decided to go decorate the house she’d bought after she had something to eat.
Next, she called Director Quinn.
The call connected quickly. "Director Quinn, how have you been?"
"Haha, Riley Perry! I saw you on that reality show. You’re a real star now! Even my kid is a fan. You’ll have to get me a few autographed photos when you have a chance."
"Oh, I’m hardly a big star. I’m just a minor actress trying to make a living. Director Quinn, you’re pulling my leg, aren’t you? But the autographed photos are no problem at all. I’ll make sure your son is happy."
Director Quinn’s son was in his third year of middle school. She’d heard the director mention before that the boy was well-behaved, sensible, and a good student. She was surprised to hear that Director Quinn would support him being a fan.
"That’s great. Filming for *Starfire* will wrap up in a week at most. We’ll definitely have to go on some shows for promotion, so you have to be there."
Previously, it wouldn’t have made much difference whether Riley Perry showed up or not. After all, she was only the fifth female lead and had limited screen time.
But things were different now. She was genuinely famous. After just five days on the reality show, she had gained over three million fans. Yesterday, her follower count officially surpassed the ten-million mark.
Ten million followers meant she had already entered the third tier of stardom. If she had a few solid projects under her belt, she would have been a shoo-in for the second tier.
But anyone could see that *Go on an adventure together* was a guaranteed hit, and Riley Perry was arguably the one carrying the show—a trending-topic machine. It could be considered her signature work.
Who wouldn’t want to capitalize on that kind of popularity?
"You’re giving me a chance to appear on screen, of course I’m dying to go! But I’m guessing you didn’t call me just for this, did you?"
"Of course not. That old geezer Nathan Chenning is shooting a new police-and-gangster drama soon. I sent some of your clips from the show to Old Chenning, and he was impressed by your skills."
"Really? That’s wonderful! When’s the audition? I’ll clear my schedule for it."
Director Quinn burst out laughing. "Look at you, so eager. I’ll send you his contact info in a bit. The audition time will be whenever he notifies you."
To be honest, this audition opportunity came about not only because of Riley Perry’s own impressive skills, but also thanks to The Martial Arts Association tagging her online. Otherwise, Old Chenning wouldn’t have dared to use her.
Moreover, whoever it was that wanted to blacklist Riley Perry was probably dumbfounded. Thanks to one reality show, Riley Perry was practically living on the trending lists. The original blacklisting effort had become a complete joke. At most, it just meant Stellux would never work with her.
But Riley Perry was backed by Stardust. When she wasn’t famous, Stardust’s attention was naturally limited. Now that she was on the verge of a major breakthrough, of course Stardust would start promoting her heavily.
So, whether she was blacklisted or not had little real effect on Riley Perry now.
Riley Perry thanked him with great sincerity. "Director Quinn, I don’t even know how to thank you. I know you must have gone to a lot of trouble for me over this. Otherwise, how would Director Chenning even know who I am?"
"You’re busy right now, but once things calm down, I’ll treat you to a meal."
Director Quinn thought, ’I can take or leave the meal, but I certainly hope she doesn’t forget the tea.’
A feeling of warmth spread through him. From Riley Perry’s words, he knew she appreciated his help. That was good. He didn’t want to help someone only to have them take it for granted.
"Alright then, I’ll be waiting for it."
After hanging up, Riley Perry saw the contact card Director Quinn had sent. She immediately added Director Chenning on WeChat, but he was probably busy and didn’t accept her request right away.
She wasn’t in a hurry. Putting her phone away, she went downstairs. The maids in the villa greeted her respectfully when they saw her. "Good morning, Miss Perry. Lunch will be ready shortly. If you could just wait a moment."
"Alright. And where is Mr. Sinclair?"
The young maid smiled and replied, "He is in the study on the second floor. Do you want to go see him?"
"No, it’s fine," Riley Perry said. "I’m afraid I’d just disturb his work. He’ll come down on his own when he’s finished."
The young maid’s smile remained unchanged as she watched Riley Perry sit down on the luxurious living room sofa. She then stood off to the side, ready to await any instructions.
