Chapter 123: Chapter 123: Going to the Police Station

’A three or four-year-old kid couldn’t have come to the amusement park by herself. For her to be missing this long and no one has come looking... what kind of clueless parent is this?’

The middle-aged woman on the ground peered into the crowd, her eyes filled with anxiety, having completely forgotten her pain. A flicker of joy appeared when she spotted someone, but it was quickly replaced by a snarl as she gritted her teeth. "That’s my daughter! Not only did you snatch my child, but you have the nerve—the nerve to call me a trafficker! I—I’m not finished with you!"

A rather burly middle-aged man pushed his way out of the crowd. He gently helped the woman up, his face etched with concern. "Honey, why are you on the ground? Where’s our little girl? Where’s our daughter?"

The way the onlookers looked at Riley Perry changed.

The middle-aged woman pointed at Riley Perry. "They snatched the child! And she beat me up! I think my bones are broken. You—you have to get me to a hospital, quickly!"

The man helped the woman to her feet, then shot a vicious glare at Riley Perry. "You bitch, give us our kid back right now, or I’m calling the cops!"

Riley Perry stood with her arms crossed. "If you’ve got the guts, take her back. If not, then shut your mouth."

"You... Fine. I’m not going to argue with you. You hurt my wife, and I need to get her to the hospital first. Just you wait. I’ll be back to settle this."

With that, he supported the woman and tried to leave. Riley Perry strode over and kicked the back of the man’s knee.

THUD. The man fell to his knees, bringing the middle-aged woman tumbling down with him. They both cried out in pain.

Riley Perry said, "What’s the rush? Don’t you want your child anymore?"

A woman with curly hair, likely in her fifties or sixties, pushed through the crowd. "Cindy! Where’s my sweet granddaughter? Where’s my Cindy?"

’She’s wearing a designer pantsuit, and her jewelry is clearly high-end,’ Riley Perry observed. ’She’s obviously wealthy. But for someone like that to come to an amusement park, how could she not bring an escort? How could she have possibly lost the child?’

Victoria Koenig started to step forward to hand the child to the woman, but Riley Perry stopped her. "Ma’am, may I ask your name?"

"My surname is Vance. Oh, dear, you don’t believe I’m her biological grandmother, do you?

Let me tell you, this is a huge misunderstanding. The little one was begging to ride the carousel, but her parents were too busy, so I brought her.

When we got here, she immediately wanted ice cream and picked out a gigantic cone. I was worried she’d get a stomach ache, so I coaxed her into letting me eat most of it. Well, she was fine, but I was the one who ended up with an upset stomach. I took her with me to the restroom, but she’s a mischievous one. She slipped out while I was in the stall.

I had just gotten out of the restroom when I heard the broadcast."

Riley Perry watched the woman’s expression closely. She was inclined to believe they were grandmother and granddaughter, but she still needed to verify a few things.

"You say she’s your granddaughter. How can you prove it?"

Mrs. Vance was practically beside herself. "How am I supposed to prove it? I’m her grandmother, and she’s my granddaughter!"

Riley Perry said, "Then you must have photos of your granddaughter on your phone. Please, show them to everyone."

By now, the commotion had drawn the attention of the amusement park staff.

No one found Riley Perry’s request unreasonable, so all eyes turned to Ms. Vance, waiting for her to produce the photos.

But Mrs. Vance hesitated, making no move to take out her phone.

’Now it was starting to make sense why the child had gotten separated from her grandmother,’ Riley Perry thought.

"Since you can’t prove your relationship to the child, let’s wait for the police."

The look Ms. Vance gave Riley Perry turned sour, but she didn’t press the issue. Just then, the police finally arrived.

The two traffickers on the ground thought to themselves, ’It’s over. There’s no escaping now.’

Three officers arrived—two men and a woman. One man was tall and powerfully built with an impassive face. The other had fair skin and wore glasses, looking like a recent college graduate. The female officer, however, was staring at Riley Perry, her eyes shining with excitement. "Who reported this?"

Riley Perry raised her hand. "I did. I called it in. I suspect the two people on the ground are traffickers, and this woman, Ms. Vance, claims to be the child’s relative. One of them has to be lying, so I’ll have to ask you to investigate.

Oh, and I had to get physical to stop them from running away. If the investigation shows I was wrong about them, I’m prepared to offer compensation."

"Aren’t you afraid of accusing the wrong people?"

Riley Perry’s expression was grave. "Compared to saving a child from a potential kidnapping, none of that matters."

The live stream chat exploded. The comments were scrolling by so fast they were a blur, but the vast majority were positive. With two different parties now claiming to be the child’s family—the captured couple and the grandmother—it meant at least one of them had to be lying. And it seemed highly likely that the man and woman were the traffickers.

[Exactly! Riley didn’t just save a child; she saved an entire family!]

[I’ve read news stories about what happens to kids after they’re abducted... they’re beaten horribly. Their lives are ruined forever. Riley did the right thing!]

[There was a student at my school who helped an elderly couple with directions out of kindness. It was a trap. She was sold to a family in the mountains to be a wife. They rescued her two years later, but she came back with a limp, had aged at least ten years, and was always timid and cowering. She’d had a son for that family. Her life is basically over.]

[In my village, a family lost their son. The parents went mad trying to find him. They sold their house and their land and spent more than ten years searching, but they never found him.]

[If you see something like this, I’m not saying you should just kick someone like Riley did, but you absolutely have to call the police. Even if there’s only a tiny chance something is wrong, it’s still a good deed.]

The tall officer cracked a small smile. "Alright, we’ll need all of you to come with us to the station to give a statement."

Riley Perry said, "Officer, as you can see, we’re in the middle of filming a show. Would it be possible for us to keep live-streaming? We just want to see the confirmation of whether these two are traffickers or not."

The tall officer understood what she was asking and nodded. "That’s fine."

And so, Riley Perry went to the police station, followed by her show’s camera crew. The smashed, melted ice cream cone was also taken as evidence; the female officer collected a sample for analysis.

The police took the little girl to the hospital for a check-up. Mrs. Vance tried to follow but was stopped and also brought to the station.

By this point, the number of viewers on the live stream had reached a staggering fifteen million. During the statement, the female officer’s first question was, "Miss Perry, can you tell us why you believed that woman was a trafficker?"

Riley Perry replied, "First, there was the huge difference in how they were dressed. The little girl is clearly from a well-to-do family. The woman’s clothes, on the other hand, were very cheap. There’s no way she could be the mother or grandmother. A nanny, at best.

Second, she kept pushing the child to eat the ice cream. As soon as the girl had a little, she started slumping against the woman’s shoulder. I suspected the ice cream had been drugged.

Even if the woman was just the child’s nanny, she’s definitely up to no good."
