Chapter 525 - I Am Mewtwo

"You don't want these flowers destroyed either, do you?"

Huh?

As soon as Johan said that, he felt... a little awkward. Something about the phrasing felt off.

But he had to admit, it was effective. Holding that Aurus flower in his hand clearly gave the remaining three Genesects pause.

At the same time, the wild Pokémon that lived in the Pokémon Sanctuary had gathered again, watching the three Genesects with clear hostility.

"Goka!"Armarouge stepped forward and signaled for everyone to stay calm.

After witnessing the power of the Genesects—and that of Johan and his team—the wild Pokémon of the sanctuary gradually lowered their guard.

"Everyone..."

The Ice Drive Genesect also stepped forward, trying to help Johan talk them down.

"This is home for all of us. No one would stop you from staying, but driving others out to take over their home—would you really make everyone lose theirs, too?"

Johan's voice echoed in their minds.

"Look around—look at these Pokémon!"

"Ge—no... Ge—no..."

They saw the ruined grasslands, the muddied lake, a Deerling licking its wounds, and Feraligatr, Houndoom, and Persian glaring at them with animosity.

This wasn't what they wanted.

Though their leader had said they'd build a new home, they had never meant to hurt anyone—just clear obstacles.

"Ge—no! Ge—no!"The Ice Drive Genesect continued pleading.

But then—

The voice of the red Genesect leader returned in their minds.

"What are you doing? Finish the purge!"

"Leader..." the Ice Drive Genesect tried to argue.

"Leader, maybe we—"

"Leader, they have the flower—"

The other three tried to speak, but the leader didn't care. It immediately took control again:

"Eliminate them all!"

BZZZZZ—

The three Genesects' eyes glowed red, once more under their leader's control—except the Ice Drive one, which remained affected by the red chain.

Johan winced.

Seriously?

That red Genesect kept screaming about not wanting to be controlled by humans—and here it was, happily controlling its own kind.

Johan looked up.

No sign of Mewtwo or the red Genesect.

But remembering that Mewtwo could hear certain "special voices," Johan reached out with his Aura:

Mewtwo?

A pause of a second or two—

Then Mewtwo's voice came into his mind.

"What is it?"

Johan gritted his teeth: "Beat the crap out of it!"

"...Understood."

——

In downtown Newt City, Mewtwo and the red Genesect hovered high in the air, facing off.

Mewtwo had actually been considering trying to reason with it—but Johan's message changed that.

"Sorry, then."

As a powerful Psychic-type, Mewtwo could sense the fury raging within the Genesect—almost identical to what it felt during its own birth.

Better to subdue it first.

BOOM!!

Mewtwo's psychic power exploded.

Sensing the threat, the red Genesect raised its cannon—

BZZZZZ—

A high-tech beam surged forward, but Mewtwo's psychic shield held it back.

The impact, though, slammed Mewtwo down to the ground.

"Obstacle. Eliminate."

Rather than flee, the red Genesect dove after Mewtwo at top speed.

CRASH!!

The street exploded. Pedestrians and cars screeched to a halt, stunned.

The red Genesect arrived at the crater, arms raised, firing twin pale green beams—

But closer inspection revealed them to be concentrated sonic waves.

Bug Buzz!

Colress had engineered these creatures for battle—like Mewtwo, they were no slouches.

Bug-type beats Psychic-type. Basic type advantage.

But just then—

New novel chapt𝒆rs are published on ƒгeewebnovёl.com.

Crack crack crack—

The broken ground split further.

As Bug Buzz closed in through the mist—

BOOM!!

The earth exploded. Rocks flew everywhere—blocking the attack.

But as they flew toward nearby civilians and Pokémon—

They froze midair. Caught by some invisible force. Then gently dropped.

Everyone stared in awe.

In the dispersing fog stood a figure, one arm raised, holding a glowing, electric-blue orb. Waves of psychic energy pulsed outward, dragging the air into it like a black hole.

"If you won't listen—I'll just take you down first!"

Mewtwo hurled the orb.

The red Genesect felt mortal danger and tried to use Extreme Speed—but this attack followed it.

Psystrike!

Mewtwo's signature move!

The Genesect turned into a saucer and bolted upward.

The orb followed.

So did Mewtwo.

Leaving behind a stunned crowd of humans and Pokémon.

"So... scary..."

Mewtwo frowned. The Psystrike wasn't connecting.

That Genesect was fast—faster than even Mewtwo.

Should it use that power?

In mid-flight, Mewtwo summoned a Mega Stone—it could feel its energy, belonging to itself.

But the key to unlock it was missing.

It could force the evolution—but it wasn't confident in controlling the result.

Still...

It was considering it when Johan's voice came again:

Mewtwo, if you can't catch it—try Future Sight.

Future Sight?

Mewtwo's eyes gleamed.

Right!

Its vision shimmered, bending time and space—it saw the Genesect's path.

Couldn't catch it? Then predict it!

Johan was clever. He understood tactics and misdirection—more than Mewtwo's brute force instincts.

"Got you."

Mewtwo locked on.

The Psystrike orb curved mid-air.

The red Genesect realized too late—

BOOOOM!!

A psychic explosion tore the sky apart, blasting clouds into vapor.

The red Genesect tumbled down.

——

Back at the sanctuary:

The Ice Drive Genesect held down the Electric one.

Dragonite pounded the Fire Drive with bullet fists. Tinkaton swung her hammer.

"DRAAA!! (Ura Ura Ura—!!)"

"Cha! Cha!" (Calm down! Calm down!!)

The Water Drive Genesect was caught in a full nelson by Urshifu.

Armarouge, now Ceruledge again, slashed repeatedly, blue fire trailing each cut.

"Ka-kaah~~"

Gengar grinned, licking its tongue ominously as it crept toward the terrified Electric Genesect.

Even the wild Pokémon nearby shivered.

The Genesects' feet and cannons had been coated in hard frost—not enough to stop them, but enough to slow them.

Five Genesects had been overwhelming for Johan.

But with the red one gone and the Ice one flipped—only two remained.

That was manageable.

Johan adjusted his monocle. Earlier, he'd felt the Mega Stone chain heat up—but it faded quickly. He'd thought Gengar wanted to Mega Evolve, but now wasn't the time to worry about it.

"Alright, Gengar, Ninetales—prepare for surgical sleep."

"Ka-kaah!"

"Oowoo~"

Gengar grinned wider, casting Dark Void. Ninetales' eyes shimmered with psychic glow.

While brute force was useful, hypnosis had its place.

Then—

The red glow faded from the Genesects' eyes.

Now's the chance!

"Now!"

"Ka-kaah!"

Gengar fired. Ninetales amplified it. Johan channeled Aura.

Water Drive Genesect—down.

Electric Drive—down.

"Stop, Tinkaton, Dragonite!"

They halted.

The Fire Drive, aching all over, gratefully passed out.

Three Genesects—asleep.

Johan focused his Aura to project an image—of rocky spires, green fields, shimmering lakes filled with Aurus flowers.

A home.

The Genesects' resistance melted.

This was home.

Whew—

Johan wiped his brow.

It was done.

"Rotom, find the control devices. Remove them."

Though freed from Colress, the control implants were still there.

Could be reactivated.

And Johan wasn't sure if the red leader's control was due to his status—or the implants.

Rotom zipped into the slots in their backs, starting the removal.

Then—

A streak of light landed in front of them.

Mewtwo.

Holding the red Genesect leader—unconscious.

"You got it?" Johan asked.

Mewtwo met his eyes.

"I am Mewtwo."

Its voice echoed in everyone's minds.

But to Johan, the meaning was deeper.

Who am I?

Mewtwo.

Thanks to Johan, it had found its identity. Its self.

To a Pokémon psychologist like Johan, that was the greatest success possible.

Only one thing left to worry about:

What would Mewtwo do when it met the "chubby" original—Mew?

Johan chuckled quietly.

"Ka-kaah!"

I'm Gengar!

Gengar thought Mewtwo was greeting it and waved.

"I know you, Gastly," Mewtwo nodded.

"Ka-kaah?"

Huh?

Gengar scratched its head.

Why did everyone keep calling it Gastly lately?

Then—

"Watch out!"

The Ice Drive Genesect warned.

The red leader—was awake!

Or maybe... it never was unconscious.

It fired a beam—

High-Tech Cannon!

Target: Johan.

It had planned to fake its loss, rejoin its team—but returned to find them all unconscious.

Clearly, Johan's doing.

Its rage exploded.

"Ka-kaah!!"

Gengar leapt in front of Johan. Ninetales followed.

But before the beam could hit—

Mewtwo stepped forward.

One hand raised—Psychic shield engaged.

The blast met resistance.

BOOOOM!!

A shockwave tore through the earth.

Johan felt the Mega Stone burn again—

Then fade.

Gengar and Ninetales were at Mewtwo's side, holding the line.

Dragonite, Tinkaton, Urshifu, and Ceruledge all roared and charged toward the red Genesect once again.

This was the final straw.

Enough was enough.

Again and again, this Genesect had tried to harm Johan. Even after being captured. Even after being spared.

"Ka-kaah!!"

Gengar's fury boiled over. It had always been playful, but now, it looked truly terrifying—shadowy aura swirling like a storm.

"Oowoo!"

Ninetales let out a piercing cry, icy mist exploding around it. The temperature dropped sharply.

Dragonite struck first.

BAM!

A spinning tail-whip sent the red Genesect flying into the sanctuary's outer wall. The structure groaned, but held.

Urshifu caught up midair—grappling it, locking both arms, and flipping it into the ground with a thunderous suplex.

"Goka!"

Ceruledge slashed downwards with its twin blades, each blow embedding searing blue fire deeper into the Genesect's chassis.

Tinkaton raised her hammer high—charging, glowing—only for Johan to shout:

"Stop!"

She halted inches from contact. The Genesect's cannon powered down. Its limbs twitched, but it didn't move to attack.

Johan approached, eyes glowing with Aura.

"Mewtwo, now. Help me reach it."

"Understood."

Johan and Mewtwo's minds linked, and their combined psychic and aura energy pierced into the inner psyche of the red Genesect.

It was a chaos of images.

Pain. Cages. Wires. Commands. Darkness. Testing. Orders. Ice. Fire. Fighting.

A cold, metallic voice.

You exist to fight. To obey. To purge.

In this swirling void, Johan's voice emerged like a ripple in still water:

"Is this really what you want?"

A flicker.

More memories. More pain.

Then—one faint spark.

Green fields. Blue sky. A feeling not from its current self—but something ancient. From its fossil. From the time it lived freely.

The real home.

Johan pressed on.

"I don't want to control you. I want to give you a choice."

Mewtwo's energy steadied the mental chaos.

Slowly, the red Genesect's consciousness began to stabilize.

The cannon powered down fully.

Its red eyes faded to a dull glow.

"...Choice?"

The voice came not in the mind—but out loud.

It looked up at Johan, blinking slowly.

"I don't trust humans," it rasped. "But... I don't want to hurt them anymore either."

Johan nodded.

"That's good enough for me."

The Pokémon behind Johan—all panting, ready to strike again—held back.

Mewtwo turned away, arms crossed. "If it breaks its word, I'll know."

The red Genesect said nothing, but lowered its head.

A long silence followed.

Then, softly:

"...Where is home?"

Johan smiled, raising the Aurus flower in his hand.

"Let's go find it."
