Pokemon: My Trainer Simulator-Chapter 541 - 403: Facing the Champion (Part 2)
As Baimu and Tetsuya stepped onto the trainer seats on either side, they concurrently drew everyone around them.
The battle of the Four Heavenly Kings is out of sight, but the battle of the former tournament winners is also quite interesting.
Suddenly.
An Aerial Rotom flew from afar.
"This battle will be judged by Rotom, Roto~," it declared from above.
The two facing off soon wore confused expressions.
"Did you call it?"
"Nope."
Tetsuya shook his head vigorously. Despite being a native of Mauville City, he couldn’t have summoned an Aerial Rotom from Li Mauville to serve as a referee.
Fortunately, Aerial Rotom answered for itself, "This visitor, I’ll prove that Rotom isn’t a troublesome Pokémon, it’s a formidable one, Roto!"
It loudly addressed Baimu.
"It’s you!"
Baimu swiftly remembered the fellow he encountered upon entering, not expecting it to not only follow him but also turn into an Aerial Rotom.
However, since it’s the referee...
He touched Porygon’s Pokeball, the latter remaining unresponsive, either resting or not hearing.
"I’ll leave it to you then."
He replied.
Aerial Rotom grinned, "Leave it to me, Roto~"
——
"A three-on-three single battle is about to commence. Please select the first Pokémon to enter the arena."
Aerial Rotom’s voice echoed above the park.
Baimu and Tetsuya each took out a Pokeball.
"Don’t hold back, give it your all in this battle with me, please."
"Don’t worry, I never know how to go easy."
As the two exchanged words, Aerial Rotom issued the command.
"Begin!"
The two Pokeballs simultaneously flew forward.
Bang! Bang!
Light flickered.
"Chuu-ke!"
A dark green humanoid lizard landed, with a tail as large and vigorous as a forest—
Forest Pokémon, Sceptile.
It lifted its head, looking at a distant gray-white ordinary round stone, a question mark flickering on its forehead.
This... is also a Pokémon?
"It’s the Galar Region’s Corsola, a Ghost Attribute! Stay vigilant!"
Tetsuya held the illustrated guide, relaying the information displayed while issuing the command, "High-speed Movement!"
"Chuu-ke!"
Sceptile’s eyes sharpened, and it leaned forward, striding and charging ahead.
Swish!
Dust flew!
Through high-speed movement, it erupted with a terrifying pace, leaving residual shadows behind in its swift passage, reaching Corsola within a breath, crossing over ten meters.
"Leaf Blade!"
Sceptile raised its arms, the two leaves at the elbow merging and emitting dazzling green light, transforming into an emerald light blade, swinging down and causing the air to emit a fierce screech like being torn!
Baimu calmly commanded, "Defend."
Corsola, resembling a stone, slightly opened its red eyes, its body floating as smoke-like tentacles reached out, a water-blue spherical light shield naturally emerged, blocking the emerald light blade!
Squeak—
The light blade collided with the spherical light shield, and sparkling currents burst between the two!
"It didn’t break through?"
Baimu watched the scene, roughly gauging Sceptile’s physical attack abilities.
In animation, the ’Defend’ move differs from absolute defense in games; it can be broken by sufficiently powerful moves—absolute isn’t crucially situational.
Thus, he refrained from issuing commands immediately, deciding to use Defend first to test Sceptile’s attack power.
Unexpectedly... the tournament champion’s main force is surprisingly "weak"? Or maybe this Sceptile focuses more on special attack?
He continued, "Black Mist."
Defend and Leaf Blade stalemated, eventually dimming and dissipating together.
Sceptile leapt back a large step, distancing itself from Corsola, only to see the latter slightly quiver its body, spewing abundant black mist from holes across its surface, instantly engulfing half the arena.
Enshrouded in black mist, its initially boosted speed reverted back to normal.
Such quick move combo speed!
Unable to clearly see the situation inside the field made Tetsuya’s scalp tighten, and he quickly said, "Use Flying Leaf Storm to sweep away the Black Mist!"
"Chuke!"
Sceptile responded, a whirlwind of fluorescent green leaves swirling up from the ground to disperse the surrounding black smoke, quickly gathering on its bush-like tail, which it swung left and right, continuously sweeping across the battleground.
However, despite dispersing the Black Mist, Corsola seemed to have disappeared without a trace.
"Watch the shadowy places!"
Tetsuya shouted, Ghost-type Pokémon typically possess the special ability to become invisible within shadows, but removing those shadows can expose these creatures.
Unfortunately, Baimu, not being a Gym Leader, wouldn’t give Tetsuya and Sceptile the opportunity to carefully search.
"Ghost Fire."
From the scant remains of the Black Mist, Corsola emerged, its body enveloped in a layer of fiery red light, nine bluish spherical flames igniting out of thin air, suddenly compressed and spinning towards Sceptile!
"It’s behind you!"
Tetsuya timely shouted, "Use Evasion!"
"Chuke!"
Sceptile swiftly turned its head and its eyes gleamed blue, deftly dodging the incoming spherical flames from left to right, successfully evading all nine Ghost Fires amidst the back-and-forth jumps.
The onlooking crowd couldn’t help but applaud Sceptile’s ghostly movements.
As Ghost Fire missed its mark, Baimu was not disappointed or surprised, but instead smiled, "Curse."
"Sigh..."
Corsola sighed deeply, a dark energy surged from within, transforming into a ghastly ghostly shadow that rushed at Sceptile with claws bared.
"Leaf Blade!"
Sceptile raised the emerald green blades on its arms, fearlessly charging at the shadow.
The blade struck down—
Swish!
But unfortunately, it missed.
It looked incredulously at the ghastly shadow that suddenly sidestepped the Leaf Blade, before shrieking in delight as it rushed into its body.
"Chuke!"
The pained Sceptile dropped to one knee, the Curse continuously sapping its stamina, significantly impacting its fighting power.
Tetsuya decisively raised his Pokeball, "Return, Sceptile—"
"Tide Spin!"
Baimu quickly commanded.
A tremendous roar, and above Corsola’s head, a blue triangular water vortex formed instantly, flew out with its forward assault, suddenly engulfing Sceptile and dispelling the red light emitted by the Pokeball!
Bam!
"Chuke—"
Sceptile screamed in agony under the water’s impact and curse’s attack.
The reaction was too quick!
Tetsuya gritted his back teeth, shouted, "Sceptile! Break free quickly! You can do it!"
Before the match, he had thought that as a Coordinator Trainer who rose to fame through the Gorgeous Competition, Baimu probably had considerable combat strength, or he wouldn’t challenge the Gym.
But he never expected to be so formidable!
He was being completely suppressed!
The fortunate thing was, they possessed the foundational skills acquired through years of training, along with the resilient will cultivated through long-term combat.
Thus, under the trainer’s cries, Sceptile fiercely slapped its tail against the ground, using the force to break free from the Tide Spin.
Only to quickly fall into another hell.
"Ghost Fire."
Around Corsola, nine bluish spherical Ghost Fires spun, charging at Sceptile as if they were alive—relentlessly forward.
Tetsuya shouted anxiously, "Evasion!"
Sceptile’s eyes gleamed blue, but before it could clearly see the Ghost Fire’s attack path, these blue flames slammed into it one after the other.
Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam!
Shooting sparks flew.
By the time the last flame slammed into Sceptile, its body bore numerous scorched burn marks, continuously rising smoke.
After the curse, Sceptile entered a burn state.
Fortunately, Tetsuya finally seized the opportunity to successfully recall it into the Pokeball; though the Pokeball couldn’t remove its burn state, it could stabilize its current injuries.
Baimu saw this and couldn’t help but feel a little regret.
"Lacking the ability to finish decisively..."
If it had been other Pokémon, under such opportune situations provided by Sceptile, they would have long finished it off.
Unfortunately, Corsola’s output ability is limited, or rather, its approach is one of sustained attacks—unable to be expected to burst with immense attacking power.
Still, it’s pretty impressive. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
Every Pokémon has its own combat method.
