Pokémon Court-Chapter 575: Fighting Event
Chapter 575: Fighting Event
Arcanine’s loss, as well as the outside comments, did not cause any emotional fluctuation in Terrance.
He had already anticipated this result upon learning about the event’s content and rules.
It wasn’t that Arcanine performed poorly, but rather that Beautifly’s stunning performance had set high expectations for Arcanine. Arcanine simply couldn’t meet those expectations, creating a sense of disappointment in others.
However, most people remained rational. Although Arcanine did not win, its performance was still considered one of the more outstanding ones.
As for the winner of the Fire-type Shooting event... it was the Trainer with Ninetales.
Her name was Fujiki.
Albus felt quite upset due to being completely crushed by Wallace in the Water-type event, and by Terrance in the Flying-type event.
Especially since Fujiki had already secured a win herself. Albus was eager to join the events where Lucario and Darkrai could compete.
"Congratulations." After the event, Terrance approached Albus and Fujiki. Fujiki’s Ninetales was indeed exceptionally strong—not only in terms of flames, but also in its excellent control over psychic power.
Fujiki gave a symbolic nod. That was just her personality. But Terrance suddenly noticed that Albus didn’t seem to be in the right state of mind.
"What’s wrong with him?" Terrance asked.
Fujiki glanced at Albus’s worried, gloomy face and, quite uncharacteristically, let out a laugh.
"He’s being pestered by someone."
"Stop." Albus quickly interrupted Fujiki and let out a stifled sigh.
"Why on earth did I go out of my way to challenge her....She actually chased me all the way here..."
"That girl named Shivana is supposedly the cousin of Sinnoh Champion Cynthia, right?" Fujiki recalled. There seemed to be such a rumor.
"Oh?" Hearing this, Terrance’s interest was piqued.
"This Shivana you’re talking about—who is she?"
Fujiki glanced at Albus. Albus shrugged and explained, "A month ago, during the Pokémon World Tournament, that Shivana won the youth division. I missed that competition, and just happened to run into her afterward, so I issued a challenge."
"At that time, Darkrai had just recovered, and we were still in the phase of learning to get along with each other..."
"So you used Darkrai to defeat this Shivana?" Terrance asked.
Albus nodded innocently, "But she is a bit obsessive. She actually followed me all the way from Sinnoh to here. To be honest, I really don’t want to battle her again."
"I see. Since she came after you, I suppose that makes her your rival," Terrance stroked his chin and said with a smile, "Looks like she’s determined to beat you in the upcoming events."
"Tch, boring." Albus said.
Fujiki sighed, "But you just got provoked by Shivana for getting eliminated twice, and you still took the bait, agreeing to go head-to-head with her in the next events."
Albus’s face darkened, and he said, "It’s not like I wanted to."
After understanding the situation, Terrance lost interest in the topic. He turned to Albus and said, "After the Ground-type event, I received word that there’ll be a Fighting-type event. I’m looking forward to another battle with Lucario then."
"That soon?" Albus was taken aback. He looked at Terrance and nodded, "Then let me see how much your Gallade has improved."
Terrance turned and left, though he still had some worries in his heart.
Just like the Water-type Surfing event, the Fire-type Shooting event, and the Ground-type long-distance running event, if the moves allowed in the event are restricted to Pokémon of that type, then Gallade’s strength would undoubtedly be cut by more than half.
The Ground-type event was a cross-country running, held on a remote island not far away from Sootopolis City that had been specially developed for the event.
The terrain there was rugged. During the competition, Ground-type Pokémon were allowed to use their own powers to alter the terrain and hinder their opponents.
This event... had a very unexpected result.
The final winner was Wallace’s Swampert.
Of the four events that had already taken place, Wallace had won two of them, and did so with overwhelming dominance. The remaining two events were won by Terrance and the relatively unknown Fujiki, respectively. The atmosphere of the festival was growing increasingly tense.
Out of 17 winner’s slots, only 13 now remained.
That same day.
The contents of three more events were announced.
They were Rock, Fighting, and Electric!
"The rules of the Fighting-type event..." Terrance nearly flipped the table; what he feared the most had come true.
The event would be conducted in a 7-person free-for-all format, with advancement determined by the result of the battle.
The most important rule: throughout the entire event, each participating Fighting-type Pokémon could only use one move—one Fighting-type move as their trump card!
Everything else would have to rely solely on physical brawling.
Terrance fell silent. He glanced at his assistant Sharan, who was waiting for his decision, and temporarily had her leave.
"What should I do..."
This wasn’t the most awkward situation—Gallade at least currently knew a Fighting-type move, Close Combat. While its mastery of Close Combat was decent, relying on a solid foundation that granted extra potency to its slashing attacks, even so... without Teleport, Gallade might still excel in slashing techniques, but...
Forget about holding its own against Albus’s Lucario—it would likely be defeated in just a few rounds.
"Should... we participate?"
Terrance, who had come to the festival with great ambition, had already hit setbacks in two events. This wasn’t a festival tailor-made for him, nor a stage purely for his own performance. This simple truth—Terrance realized—he was only just now beginning to understand.
"It’s because everything has been going so smoothly for me recently... so I got a little..."
Taking a swig from a bottle of iced drink, Terrance sobered himself up.
His initial plan had been to claim multiple victories in a dominant fashion—just like Wallace had done...
In the Flying-type event, he and Beautifly had showcased their capabilities and gave the audiences across all four regions high expectations.
But with Arcanine already having suffered a loss—if Gallade were to lose as well...
"Never mind, what am I even thinking? I’m just a small-time Top Coordinator. Even with my identity as a Gym Leader, there are plenty of others here with similar credentials."
"Instead of worrying about these vague and meaningless things, it’s more important to enjoy the event together with my Pokémon."
Glancing at the Poké Ball containing Gallade sitting on the table, Terrance had made up his mind. To hell with the outcome and other people’s evaluations; he had already qualified for the next round. Opening the door, Terrance went to find Sharan again and instructed her to take care of a few things.
As for Altaria’s totem aura, the materials had already been prepared, but some research facilities were still needed for assistance. Terrance had to hurry.
