Pokémon Court-Chapter 40: House of Breeding
Chapter 40: House of Breeding
“Hello, please register first,” the registration staff said, smiling brightly as she directed Brock and Terrance, the two boys who had just entered.
“How does it work? Do we have to pay?” Brock leaned in and asked.
“Well, if you don’t have any other means and are prepared to pay, there are two options. One is to purchase time, allowing you to freely browse the library and even make copies. The other is to borrow books based on the price indicated on the labels beneath them, which allows you to take the books outside the library for reading.”
“I see… then I’ll purchase time for now.” Brock thought for a moment. He knew he wouldn’t be staying in the Hoenn region for long, and his current visit was mainly for broadening his horizons. If he borrowed the books, he probably wouldn’t have enough time to read them.
Once the staff understood his choice, she pointed to the wall on the opposite side. On the wall was a giant screen displaying the various floors and the corresponding fees for different periods of time. Seeing that, Brock immediately rushed towards it.
“Um…” The staff then looked at Terrance. However, before she could speak, Terrance handed her an azure booklet.
“This is..” Surprised, the staff took the booklet and saw a familiar emblem on it. As she flipped it open, the contents inside left her even more incredulous.
Terrance’s photo was at the top.
His name was listed below.
The prominent words “Junior Breeder” and the date and age of approval shook the registration staff’s heart.
It wasn’t that she hadn’t seen Breeders before, but… a ten-year-old Breeder was simply astonishing.
“Please keep it. You can freely browse the first three floors.” Smiling, the staff nodded and handed the certificate back to Terrance.
At that moment, Brock returned.
“1st floor for two hours, right?” Brock handed the money he had prepared to the staff and asked.
“That’s correct.”
Taking Brock’s money, the staff swiftly handed him a square piece of paper that resembled a certification card.
“Oh? Terrance, why are you still here?” Bewildered, Brock noticed Terrance still standing there and paused. “Right, you probably know the prices. How is it? Did you finish making your choice?”
“I’m done. Let’s go inside.” Terrance smiled, without explaining anything. Then the two of them entered the library. free novelkiss.com
Brock wanted to read books about raising Pokémon, while Terrance was looking for books related to training, moves, and detailed descriptions of Pokémon, particularly Swablu.
Once inside the library, Terrance and Brock went their separate ways. The library was incredibly vast, even the books on the first floor amazed Terrance. If it weren’t for the detailed categorization, finding the desired books would take an astronomical amount of time.
If we consider the ground floor as a collection of elementary-level textbooks on Pokémon studies, the second floor would contain books more akin to history and fiction. As for the upper floors, they delve into more advanced knowledge, including topics such as Poké Ball manufacturing techniques and so on.
However, without specialized knowledge, simply browsing through these books wouldn’t necessarily lead to understanding their contents.
It wasn’t as if one could glance at the materials and process of making a Poké Ball and suddenly be able to create one. Otherwise, Poké Balls wouldn’t be monopolized by the League and a few large corporations. The techniques, details, technology, and resources involved were beyond the capabilities of individuals.
Terrance spent some time on the first and third floor and quickly found the books he needed.
“Swablu Species History,” “Basic Analysis of Dragon-type Moves,” and other important books, along with some supplementary ones on Swablu and Beautifly’s moves, breeding and diet, were all collected by Terrance.
Usually, even a single book about “Dragon-type Moves” had at least four or five versions. However, as a Breeder, Terrance had his own judgment and understanding, so selecting the most suitable ones for him was not a problem at all.
Finding the books was easy, but Terrance had no intention of reading them here. As a Junior Breeder, he could borrow them for a long time, and even if he lost them, the compensation he had to pay would be very small. That was one of the benefits of being a Breeder.
After obtaining the books he needed, Terrance didn’t waste any time. It was rare for him to visit such a large library. Normally, the books he read focused on basic knowledge and common theoretical concepts. As for knowledge about the establishment of the Pokémon League, the historical relationship between ancient “demon beasts” and “Tamers,” and the history of notable figures and recent developments in this world itself, Terrance realized that his understanding of these subjects was quite limited, except for the most basic and widely known facts that even most adults were aware of.
Therefore, after browsing for a while, Terrance arrived at the second floor.
Influenced by his past life’ memories, Terrance found himself deeply intrigued by biographies and similar genres.
For the remaining time, Terrance was in a corner of the second floor, engrossed in quickly skimming through certain books.
These narrative-like books didn’t require him to exert too much mental effort.
Among them, several books caught Terrance’s interest. For example, before the appearance of Poké Balls, humans controlled Pokémon through another special tool, and at that time, Pokémon were called “demon beasts.”
Even in the ancient era without technology, humans didn’t occupy the lowest position in the food chain.
Hundreds of years ago, this world had a system of nations, and various forces constantly engaged in wars, pursuing resources and territories.
At that time, Pokémon were the primary tools of war, and the concept of humans and Pokémon being partners was a very rare notion.
In addition, Terrance also discovered books that introduced Crown Academy. However, these niche books wouldn’t catch much interest unless someone specifically sought them out.
After reading many books, Terrance took a deep breath. The feeling of being immersed in the sea of books, the exhilaration of personal growth and transformation that came with acquiring new knowledge, was truly intoxicating!
With each new piece of information, Terrance felt a sense of fulfillment within himself. The human desire for knowledge seemed to amplify and expand within Terrance!
Checking the time, Terrance stretched lazily. He planned to finish reading the last book in his hands and then head back. There would be plenty of time to read in the future, so there was no need to rush at this moment.
Book Title: “Generation”
Glancing at the name of the book, “Generation,” Terrance cleared his throat. It was hard to imagine that this was the name of a person. It was more like a biography.
