Chapter 220: Rainstorm

“What happened?” The two looked over, but aside from the sound, nothing happened.

Their hearts sank. It was uncertain whether this outcome was good or bad. Regirock’s delay in appearing gave them ample time to react.

Ishi glanced at his watch. It would still be a while before Maki and the others arrived. For now, they needed to keep an eye on the ruins.

*********

Inside the ruins, Regirock stood there dazed. The damage to its body caused it great discomfort. At this moment, Regirock’s rock-like body was riddled with cracks, making it look weathered and ancient, like a millennia-old antique just unearthed. In fact, Regirock had just climbed out from underground after who knows how many years. Its body was devoid of energy, and many parts were barely functioning. It was so badly damaged that it had none of the majesty of a Legendary Pokémon.

It had been underground for too long. Its energy had dissipated, and its body had eroded. Just having emerged, it was bewildered by everything around it.

However, its instincts drove it to grab nearby rocks and devour them in large bites.

As Regirock consumed the rocks, its body began to slowly recover. The cracks started to heal, and energy began to fill it. Massive rocks were devoured one after another. Regirock, having not not eaten for a thousand years, grabbed the rocks and devoured them ravenously. It consumed all kinds of rocks indiscriminately, and regardless of their type, they all became nourishment that helped it recover.

The massive ruins made of rock began to slowly be tunneled through as Regirock consumed it.

The more rocks Regirock devoured, the stronger it became, allowing it to consume even more rocks. As its damaged body neared complete restoration, it seemed that as long as there were new rocks, Regirock could use them to repair its damaged body.

“Regi~~rock———”

After a while, Regirock let out a satisfied roar. Its body was nearly restored, filled with power. It had dug out a massive passageway from the center of the ruins. Regirock continued, having been dormant for so long that its body had rusted. As it devoured more rocks, its memory began to clear, driving it to work harder.

If Terrance and the others had battled Regirock when it first appeared, even one person could have easily won. However, as Regirock’s body recovered, its lost power began to slowly return. With the increasing consumption of rocks, by the time the ruins were almost hollowed out, Regirock might have regained a significant portion of its energy.

Regirock’s process of consuming rocks to restore its body also bought Maki and Terrance plenty of time. When they arrived, although they could hear loud vibrations, they still hadn’t seen Regirock.

“Everyone is here?” Arvin exclaimed in delight.

Without having directly confronted Regirock, the team had regrouped, making the situation not much different from the original plan.

“What’s the situation?” Maki immediately asked Ishi.

Ishi pointed at the trembling ruins. Unable to give a precise answer, the group exchanged opinions and decided to wait a bit longer to observe the situation.

At this time, the four Trainers simultaneously sent out two Pokémon each, which they believed could counter Regirock, keeping a close watch on the ruins.

On Terrance’s side, Altaria let out a high-pitched cry and took flight.

Castform nestled in Altaria’s cotton, looking up at the scorching sky with a confident expression.

Arvin released a Flygon, which flew out like Altaria, weaving through a sandstorm, waiting for an opportunity.

A Swampert stood calmly beside Arvin.

Albert also released his two strongest Pokémon, Aggron and Camerupt and watched the ruins calmly.

Murasakibara sent out a Skarmory and Gardevoir. Each Pokémon exuded a powerful aura. They sized each other up, and instantly felt more at ease.

Maki and Ishi retreated to a distance, setting up a camera, ready to record everything that was about to happen. They steadied their breathing, waiting for any changes. If Regirock didn’t appear soon, they planned to launch an attack.

************

“Regi~~rock———”

An angry roar echoed as Regirock’s savage nature returned. As its damaged body fully recovered, it finally remembered why it was here.

Rising anger fueled its immense power, and Regirock unleashed a Hyper Beam, causing the ruins to shake violently!

“Regi~~rock———”

Giant stones fell from the ruins, which Regirock smashed with a single arm, using brute force. Enraged, Regirock began to wreak havoc, seemingly intent on destroying the entire ruins. It rampaged, venting its fury, unleashing its powerful moves with reckless abandon.

Bang~~~~~~

Under Regirock’s destruction, the crumbling ruins were on the verge of collapse. Although they were not completely destroyed, some parts had already suffered severe damage. Buildings collapsed one after another, quickly sweeping up the sand and dust inside, and huge clouds of dust surged out, forming a massive storm in the aftermath.

The scene could be described as a whirlwind of sand and stones, with countless rocks and sand being swept up and hurled into the air above the ruins. It was an impressive spectacle, which vividly displayed Regirock’s fury.

This was far more dangerous than an ordinary sandstorm. The densely packed sand and dust would cause anyone caught in it to face certain death or injury.

Just as the sandstorm was about to erupt from the ruins, a clap of thunder resounded in the sky. In the scorching desert, dark clouds gathered above the ruins. Accompanied by flashes of lightning, huge raindrops fell.

The rain grew faster and heavier with each passing moment. Within a few breaths, it turned into a torrential downpour, with raindrops pelting down on the ruins.

The sandstorm that was about to rise was subdued by the pouring rain. The sand and dust were covered by raindrops, and the storm’s momentum was completely suppressed, pushed back by the torrential downpour.

The “great sandstorm” was supposed to sweep in from below, but the torrential rain from above quickly suppressed it, gaining a significant advantage. Coupled with its immense intensity, the sandstorm’s power had not fully consolidated when it was countered by the heavy rain, extinguishing the nascent form of the sandstorm. Regirock’s anger was like being doused with a bucket of cold water.

“That was too dangerous…” Maki’s heart was still fluttering with fear.

The ruins had just experienced a violent tremor, with several holes punched into the top. No one knew what was happening inside. As the massive sandstorm’ nascent form began to rise, everyone felt a jolt of fear. The environment here was already harsh, and if the sandstorm had fully formed, they might have had to make a hasty retreat.

But in the next moment, Terrance ordered Castform to use Rain Dance. With the Damp Rock and Mystic Water’s boost, it instantly quelled the sandstorm, summoning a downpour in the scorching desert.

“So cool~~~~~” Ishi exclaimed, pressing the record button, and said, “It’s a great start!”

“I have a feeling we can achieve great success this time!”
